Ida Sandler has been teaching English for 27 years, first in her native Russia and now at Shorefront YM-YWHA of Brighton Beach.
“I learned how to create a curriculum at the LAC,” she said. In March 2001, Rosa Dolgopyat arrived in New York from Moscow, where she was a physiotherapist. Soon after her arrival, she began taking classes at Shorefront YM-YWHA. Through her classes, she not only improved her English but also learned how to use a computer. Now she regularly uses email to communicate with her children. “My teacher helped me adapt to New York life,” she said. “Now I help other students.”
