Literacy Update
Our newsletter, published five times a year, features articles on issues of concern to adult, family, and youth literacy practitioners, as well as recommended resources, announcements, and teaching strategies.
Literacy Harvest
Literacy Harvest is our annual journal of articles by and for literacy practitioners and researchers. Past issues have focused on family literacy, multicultural education, learning disabilities, technology, welfare reform, and youth programs. The fall 2004 issue is on health literacy; the fall 2005 issue will focus on community connections in family literacy prgramming.
Curricula
- Surfing for Substance: A Professional Development Guide to Integrating the World Wide Web into Adult Literacy Instruction is available online. or in print.
- The World of Work Curriculum addresses both the educational and employment preparation needs of adult literacy students with activities that combine preparation for employment with reading, writing, and oral language practice. Eight units include fully developed lesson plans covering topics from self-discovery activities to life management skills and workplace communication skills building. Student Writing: September 11, 2001
When the LAC invited students in NYC ESOL programs to submit the writing they had done about the effects of the terrorist attacks of September 11, more than 120 students from 29 programs submitted their work.

LAC Annual Report
Stories and photographs of adult learners and their teachers illustrate the profound impact of the work of the programs the LAC supports on the life and livelihoods of New Yorkers. Descriptions of our programs, partnerships, and finances round out the picture of the LACs work.
