Reading Activity Guide

Activity: Strip Story
Purpose/Skills: Sequencing
Level: Beginning and above
Materials: Video clip, monitor, copies of strip story
Time: 20 minutes

Preparation:

This activity works best for teaching following directions and sequencing skills. Select a video clip 2-3 minutes long. On a sheet of paper type out instructions or sequence covered in the video clip.

Directions:

Explain to the class that they are going to view a video sequence. After they have viewed the video clip ask students to arrange story strips in the order that the events appear in the video clip.

  1. Show the video clip.
  2. Pass out one strip story per group of three to four students. Allow the groups time to put the sequence in order.
  3. The students can check their work by watching the video clip again.
  4. Have students share their sequence with a another group.
  5. Ask students how they felt about doing the activity.
