The College of Staten Island’s Office of Workforce Development and Innovation is seeking a dynamic and compassionate part-time Phlebotomy Technician Instructor to work with a group of adult learners who identify as actively in recovery. This unique opportunity is part of an exciting pilot workforce development project developed in collaboration with Greenwich House and LabCorp. The initiative is dedicated to training, certifying, and preparing 30 individuals as Phlebotomy Technicians, offering them a transformative path toward stable employment in the healthcare sector.

As a part-time instructor, you will be responsible for delivering 6 to 10 hours of weekly Phlebotomy training at the Greenwich House Lifelong Skills and Opportunity Center. Your role will be crucial in preparing students to successfully pass the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Phlebotomy Technician certification exam (PBT). In addition to delivering high-quality, engaging instruction, you will work closely with the Greenwich House team, which provides career navigation and work readiness support, as well as coordinate with LabCorp for 120 hours of hands-on clinical experience across various LabCorp sites in the city.

The ideal candidate will have experience teaching in a health career training program, a commitment to supporting individuals in recovery, and the ability to foster an inclusive, supportive learning environment for students who may not have been in an academic setting for some time.

This position reports to the Workforce Administrative Team and will work collaboratively on-site with Greenwich House’s program and case management team and LabCorp’s clinical placement team.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Deliver engaging, high-quality phlebotomy technician training through dynamic lectures and hands-on lab activities tailored to the needs of adult learners at the Greenwich House Lifelong Skills and Opportunity Center (Lower East Side, Manhattan).
  • Foster a positive, supportive, and safe learning environment that encourages student success, empowerment, and growth.
  • Develop and maintain individualized learner portfolios, closely tracking and reporting each student’s progress, achievements, and areas for improvement throughout their training journey.
  • Perform other job-related duties as required, ensuring a holistic and responsive approach to meeting the needs of students.
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a phlebotomist or related allied health position.
  • ASCP PBT certified and in good standing with professional affiliates.
  • Experience and demonstrated success in healthcare training and instruction.
  • Exceptional presentation, verbal, and interpersonal skills to successfully work with and present to diverse learners and audiences
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 with intermediate to advanced MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel skills.
  • Highly organized, trustworthy and able to work both independently and as part of a team.

ESOL Instructor P/T
Morning ESOL Instructor Needed
Korean Community Services of Metropolitan New York, Inc. (KCS) needs an ESOL instructor to work part-time, in person, and on-site at its Bayside location: 203-05 32nd Ave. Bayside, NY 11361.
The work schedule is 10 AM to 1 PM, Monday - Thursday but please note that you will be teaching two different classes.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high quality instruction to the ESOL students
  • Oversee all classroom paperwork including attendance sheets, progress reports, and educational materials. Organize make-up sessions and handle classroom logistics
  • Ensures punctuality by arriving at least five minutes before class begins 
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and attend staff meetings to maintain and improve instructional skills 
 
Qualifications:
  • Must have at least TESOL or TEFL certification and/or at least two years of classroom experience teaching adults

ABE/HSE Instructor (Part-time)

York College Adult Education seeks a part time ABE/HSE Instructor

Academic Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
  • Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of subject matter.
  • Provides students with appropriate learning materials and expertise in assigned subject(s).
  • Evaluates students’ performance and provides effective and timely feedback to guide student learning and success.
  • Responsible for contributing and maintaining an inclusive and collaborative environment.
  • Enter grades and attendance into software used by Center.
  • Engages in the classroom, replies to emails and voicemails, and holds on-campus or online office hours.

  • Builds on and implements curriculum tailored to content on the GED 
  • Exam to be delivered in in an onsite classroom instruction model.
  • Participates in regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Uses effective and timely communication strategies and methods to communicate with various stakeholders regarding the HSE Program.

Core Competencies/Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related educational field.
  • 2 years of previous experience in adult education or an HSE Program.
  • Must be able to teach one or more of the following subjects (reading, writing, math, science, and social studies).
  • Knowledge of the GED exam and requirements.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills and be able to work well with students, faculty, staff, and employees.

Job Title: HSE Teacher
Job Summary:
CASES is seeking a dedicated and experienced HSE (High School Equivalency) Teacher to join our Education, Career and Enrichment department. The HSE Teacher will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality instruction to help students prepare for and pass the HSE exam. This position requires strong teaching skills, a passion for adult education, and the ability to create an engaging and supportive learning environment. 

Shift Hours: The HSE Teacher is full-time Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm or 9:30 am-5:30 pm.
Location Address: 4 West 125th Street 3rd Floor New York, NY 10027. Our office is easily accessible by public transportation.
Workplace Flexibility: Hybrid.
Salary: The salary for the HSE Teacher role is $52,488 per year.

What you will be doing: 
  • Provide a safe learning environment for students, filled with opportunities to experience success, academic advancement, and support.
  • Teach all subjects of the GED test: Math, Science, Writing, Reading, and Social Studies.
  • Develop curriculum maps and level-appropriate lesson plans that promote balanced literacy and student-centered instruction, addressing multiple learning styles.
  • Lead educational field trips and contribute to planning of events and celebrations.
  • Administer the TABE assessment for new students.
  • Teach customized classes to those who have passed some subjects of the GED.
  • Plan and facilitate weekly Education enrichment group open to all CASES youth.

  • Assist with development of and/or facilitate a Project-Based learning group for 14- and 15-year-olds during SYEP.
  • In cases of inclement weather: provide instruction in virtual settings, including synchronous video classes and asynchronous assignments.
  • Other duties as assigned by Team Leader or Director.

ESOL Instructor P/T

ESOL Instructor - PT (20-25 hrs/week)

Masa partners with Mexican and Latino children, youth, and families in the South Bronx to develop strong learners and leaders who fully contribute to the larger community. We envision a community that is civically engaged, empowered, and educated.

The PT ESOL Teacher will teach 1 beginner-level ESOL class and 1 intermediate-level ESOL class running through early June 2025.  Classes meet Mondays-Wednesdays from 9 am - 1 pm. Classes are in-person and instructors will be paid for prep and administrative time, in addition to class hours.  

This position is expected to be 20-25 hrs/week, including approximately 15 hrs/week of in-person availability Mondays-Wednesdays from 8:30 am - 1:30 pm and 5-10 hours/week of prep and administrative time (which typically can be done at home/remotely).

Key responsibilities:
  • Planning, leading, and documenting weekly interactive and engaging lessons
  • Monitoring student progress and attendance
  • Reflecting on course successes and areas for growth and documenting these learnings

Requirements:
  • Availability Mondays-Wednesdays from 8:30 am -1:30 pm from mid-January 2025-early June 2025. 
  • Experience developing ESOL curriculum and/or modifying existing curriculum to meet student needs
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching English to adults; TESOL or TOEFL certification strongly preferred
  • Experience working with immigrant parents a big plus
  • Highly reliable, organized and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Spanish language proficiency a plus but not required

Adult Learning Center Site Manager F/T

The Learning Center Site Manager, under the direct supervision of the Manager of Operations, Adult Learning Centers, is responsible for maintaining the quality of adult education services, leading the instructional and support team, the daily operations of the Adult Learning Center as well as the fostering and maintaining a collaborative relationship within the Learning Center’s community. The Learning Center is a dynamic adult education facility that provides education and resources for adult new readers and writers, speakers of other languages, pre-HSE/HSE students and integrated training and education classes.

Responsibilities
  • Train, motivate, lead, and foster a collaborative teamwork environment and evaluate Learning Center and program staff including, literacy advisor, office associate, volunteers, and other assigned staff
  • Recruit, train, and collaborate with literacy advisor to support volunteers 
  • Knowledge of adult learning practices for all adult reading levels (0-12), able to model and lead instructional groups
  • Managing and coordinating adult education programs and ensure program standards, targets, and community needs are being met and/or exceeded
  • Build annual goals and performance targets for site and programs; grow enrollment, retention, and other program outcomes annually
  • Monitor progress of groups and classes onsite and offsite by conducting periodic observations/visits and provide feedback for evaluation and program improvement
  • Lead and be an active participant in the recruitment efforts, intake, registration, orientation, assessments, student placements, and ensure students receive a quality experience
  • Coordinate and implement expanded technology training classes and other workshops of interest to students and community members
  • Conduct student and program assessments to ensure continuous improvement and maintain student files and program audit documents
  • Ensure quality delivery of services and targets are being met
  • Represent BPL Adult Learning Center in citywide and statewide meetings
  • Compile and review various reports to ensure site and programs are meeting program quality monitoring goals and benchmarks; ensure overall data management of site and programs
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive collection of educational materials that includes books, appropriate online resources, and other multi-media material
  • Foster community partner relationships, coordinate outreach activities and interact with other providers to promote Adult Learning Center programming
  • Work with volunteers, advisors, and others in the department to ensure curriculum is meeting student and program needs
  • Complete a personal and staff professional development plan annually; help with staff development training as necessary
  • Collaborate on departmental and institutional projects, committees, and initiatives when appropriate (such as GED examiner, etc.)
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • BA Degree in Education, or related field
  • At least four years experience in Adult Education;
  • Two years of experience working in a supervisory capacity over a site and/or programs in Adult Education or related field
  • Success with leading an instructional team, meeting program targets, and fostering relationships in the community experience is a plus;
  • Knowledge of the proposal and grant funding process; some project and/or grant management experience preferred;
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office & other computer applications;
  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills.
  •  As with all appointments and promotions, staff will be required to work evenings & weekends to better serve community needs.

The Brooklyn Public Library Adult Learning Program provides student centered adult literacy services throughout Brooklyn communities. We are seeking a part-time floater Case Manager to support the needs of HSE participants at various programming sites. The case manager will help ensure that our program participants are knowledgeable of free programs/ resources that will help alleviate any barriers to completing their educational goals.

Responsibilities
  • Conducts a comprehensive literacy and educational/vocational assessment to develop a plan of service to meet participant’s needs (approximately 50 clients per year).
  • Identifies post-secondary transition programs and assists out-of-school youth and adults to earn their high school diploma, improve their English skills, and to improve their reading and writing skills and succeed in post-secondary education, apprenticeship programs, or training.
  • Communicate effectively and collaborate with key staff and instructors to ascertain barriers that specific participants may be experiencing that prevent them from meeting their educational needs.
  • Collaborates with and refers participants to various community partners for wrap-around services, including health literacy, financial literacy, and more.
  • Researches and assists participants in acquiring related supportive services such as computer literacy, transportation, public assistance and child care.
  • Facilitates and/or coordinates various workshops/information sessions.
  • Attend community partner meetings and attend bi-monthly case management team meetings.
  • Maintains case notes by documenting client’s goals, outcomes, and goals using the ASISTS database.
  • Monitors participant's progress and follows up frequently.
  • Performs other tasks deemed necessary to assist in achieving service and programmatic goals.
Qualifications
  • Some college required, Bachelor’s degree preferred in education or a related field; relevant experience in adult education (ABE, ESOL, & HSE)
  • Strong awareness of the barriers facing adult learners looking to integrate workforce, technology, and academic environment.
  • Relevant experience in counseling individuals and/or facilitating informational sessions
  • Must have a good knowledge of the available educational, training, and employment resources.
  • Good knowledge of labor market trends and requirements and the skills, abilities, and experiences required in various occupations.
