Case Manager F/T

York Community College is seeking 2 Case Managers 
  • Responsible for performing a variety of casework duties, including meeting with participants, developing services plans.
  • Responsible for caseload and performs record keeping functions as required, while making sure all records are maintained at a confidential level.
  • Refers participants to agencies and programs as necessary and establishes a rapport and professional relationship with all stakeholders.
  • Assists participants in establishing relationships with outside services.
  • Assists in arranging transportation to necessary appointments.
  • Conduct workshops and meeting with clients relative to goals of Social Services.
  • Conduct follow-up with participants (past and current).
  • Attend regular staff meetings
  • Document progress/outcomes.
  • Preparing resumes, and coaching them for job interviews
  • Attend mandated trainings.
  • Meeting with students to assure their persistence in instructional classes by identifying Barriers to Education and Employment
  • Provide ample community resources to address those identified barriers.
  • Provide intake services and conduct orientation.
  • Input participant information into State portal.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor and/or Director

Qualifications:
  • Associates Degree (Bachelor’s Degree preferred)
  • Bilingual English/Spanish or English/French proficiency preferred
  • 2-3 years comparable experience
  • Self-starter, able to work independently and part of a team
  • Basic knowledge of public benefits such as Medicaid, SNAP, SSI, and SSD.
  • Successful experience conducting low-income housing searches is preferred, as is experience working with migrants and non-degree participants
  • Strong computer literacy
  • Superior interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.

Work Schedule: Monday-Thursday with 2 late nights

Salary: $40K-$45K

ESOL P/T Instructors

The Lehman Adult Learning Center seeks dynamic ESOL teachers for part-time employment starting September 2024.

Teacher will provide ESOL instruction to adults. Must be creative, proactive, organized, and committed to learner-centered, participatory education.

Duties include:
  • Create and implement student-centered lessons with a thematic focus;
  • Maintain accurate attendance records;
  • Assess students’ work and provide feedback on an ongoing basis;
  • Attend staff meetings;
  •  Participate in program-wide events and activities;
  • Attend Professional Development workshops as required;
  • Administer BEST Plus test, and participate in registration and orientation;
  • Work collaboratively with all ESOL teachers to share curriculum ideas, lesson plans, and classroom management strategies.

Core Competencies/Qualifications:
Qualified candidates must have prior experience teaching in Adult ESOL classrooms, both in person and on Zoom. Bachelor's degree and ESOL teaching certification preferred. Must be creative, proactive, organized, and committed to learner-centered, participatory education.

Functional Job Title: ESL Program Coordinator for SCPS

Salary: $60,000-$64,000
Status: Full-time (must work at CUNY on the Concourse, Bronx, in-person 2-3 days a week and work remotely the remainder of the schedule. Occasionally support evening program events.)

General Description
The School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) at Lehman College is seeking an ESL Program Coordinator to support the Queens-Bronx Express (QBE): English for Work Initiative at Lehman College. The program provides fast pathways for immigrants and asylum seekers with work authorization into healthcare careers. Reporting to the Director of the Workforce Programs, the program coordinator is responsible for supporting the planning, launching, outreach, recruitment, and contextualized training for the program. The program coordinator is responsible for student support (screening, assessment, case management, referrals, and tracking), culminating in successful student employment.  The program coordinator will work closely with the Lehman team, including staff from multiple departments and faculty and other CUNY programs and government agencies. 

Responsibilities
  • Designing and executing outreach, recruitment, screening, pre-assessment, and enrollment of new applicants to meet program goals of serving at least 150 ESL/CPR students and 75 ESL/C.N.A. students over two years.
  • Conducting intake and assessments (English language testing (BEST Plus), computer skills, interviews) to refer candidates to the appropriate SCPS training (ESL, Workforce, CE, etc).
  • Collaborating with ESL and Healthcare instructors on curriculum design, scheduling, assessment and classroom performance to ensure successful student outcomes.
  • Identifying and leading student workshops on training topics not covered in training such as job readiness (NorthStar). 
  • Providing case management to selected students which includes creating individual training plans, addressing barriers, referrals to social services and observing confidentiality.
  • Identifying and establishing reciprocal referral relationships with similar CUNY programs, other training providers, social service agencies, and local immigrant organizations to meet students’ needs.
  • Participating in funder update meetings and reporting activities, including the writing of monthly reports on program and student outcomes.
  • Ensuring student records are complete for audit.

Other duties as required.
  • Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience teaching ESL to adult learners 
  • Experience conducting English Language assessment and student placement
  • Superior student service skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
  • Experience working in program administration (scheduling, staffing, etc)
  • Experience managing teachers.
  • Knowledge and experience of the CUNY system and/or NYC government agencies.
  • Experience teaching contextualize English – Workforce Programs
  • Bilingual – Spanish speaker

​General Description
The Borough of Manhattan Community College seeks an experienced and resourceful Program Director for the BMCC Adult Basic Education Programs. The Program Director will work closely with the Education Director and the BMCC educational leadership team to continue the BMCC tradition as one the most progressive and innovative literacy programs in New York City. 

The Director will be centrally responsible for developing and managing the programs’ fiscal resources including grant proposals and reports. Adult Basic Education Programs include Adult Basic Education (ABE), High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation, English as a Second Language (ESL), Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education (IELCE), and three Literacy Zones.

​The BMCC Adult Education Programs serve over 1000 students and community members annually. The Director is responsible to ensure accountability in all areas of the program and to meet the requirements as detailed in funding award contracts.

Other Duties
  • Provide leadership and implement strategic planning that support collaboration and continuous improvement to achieve instructional excellence, innovation, and professional development
  • Develop grant-funded and private-sector proposals to maintain programs and expand instructional and case-management services
  • Develop and manage multiple budgets over varying grant contract timelines
  • Work with the College’s Office of Sponsored Programs and Grants and the Research Foundation of The City University of New York to ensure budget and reporting requirements are met and are in compliance with each grant contract’s requirements
  • Remain up-to-date on the regulations, rules, budgets, reporting and compliance requirements of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).
  • Oversee data systems, ensuring all participants are accurately documented and in compliance with grant contracts
  • Submit interim and final report to all required entities
  • Network with public and private entities to maintain established partnerships and develop new programming opportunities
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with the New York City literacy community, New York State Education Department Division of Adult Education Programs & Policy, NYC Regional Adult Education Network, and community-based organizations
  • Oversee program accountability for ASISTS and the National Reporting System for Adult Education data collection and analysis of performance
  • Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position and as assigned.

Qualifications
  • At least 5 years of progressive educational leadership and managerial experience at the program manager or assistant director level preferred
  • Successful grant writing and program development experience
  • Prior experience in recruiting, developing, supervising, managing, and evaluating personnel
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously and complete them within tight deadlines
  • Prior experience working in an urban, culturally sensitive adult literacy program serving students from diverse backgrounds
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, verbal, written communication, and time management skills
  • Knowledgeable about current trends in adult learning pedagogy, including ESL methodology, theme-based and contextualized instruction, and project-based learning
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment, responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and develop strategies, goals, and procedures
  • Knowledge of current workforce trends related to education and training options
  • Proven ability to get results within a team environment and to develop productive working relationships at all levels of the organization.

Annual Salary Range: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00

ESOL Workforce Development Instructor F/T

ESOL-Workforce Development Instructor- FT

The International Center provides educational programming for newly arrived immigrants and refugees with the goal of improving learners’ English proficiency and communication skills. Working in the Bridge to Healthcare Program, the incumbent will develop, design, and deliver thoughtful and effective contextualized ESOL and healthcare classes for learners at our main Center. Upon completion of the ESOL classes, participants would be prepared and eligible to enroll in a Home Health Aide training course to prepare for the Home Health Aide competency evaluation.

Responsibilities include:
Curriculum Development and Instruction: In coordination with the Director of Programs, design and deliver nine-week contextualized healthcare and ESOL courses focused on the English needed to work as a Home Health Attendant. Create thorough and well-developed class curricula focusing on healthcare content and communicative competence for caregivers.

Manage and Support Students: Hold weekly office hours for students to ensure they are working toward their identified goals. Work with other Center staff and additional CCCS services to address student needs outside the classroom. Conduct participant intake, assess language proficiency, and identify goals.

Training and Staff Development: Actively participate in professional development, designated meetings, and special events, as appropriate and requested.

Monitoring and evaluation: Track and analyze attendance, learner feedback, class surveys/needs assessments, qualitative narrative evaluation, and assist with reporting for grants/funders.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position and work hours are generally Monday through Friday with evening hours required; classes are held from 6-9:30pm. Weekend hours may be required to meet student needs.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, ESOL or related field; Masters preferred
  • Experience working with multi-level adult ESOL learners in various contexts and familiarity with an array of pedagogical approaches to second language acquisition.
  • Experience and facility with digital instruction including digital skills, familiarity with remote and
  • hybrid learning platforms, and knowledge of online resources.
  • Experience with BEST Plus preferred.
  • Previous experience working with students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience with community outreach a plus.

​Workforce Project Manager- FT

The International Center of Catholic Charities Community Services provides educational programming for newly arrived immigrants and refugees with the goal of improving learners’ English proficiency and communication skills. The Center’s Workforce Project Manager will build and develop the department’s new Bridge to Healthcare Program. This program will provide access to ESOL training, funding, support, and job placement assistance for students preparing to work as Home Health Aides (HHA). The position includes program design, coordination and implementation of services, supervision of program staff, and oversight of their work. Responsibilities include:

Develop and manage workforce programming: identify and address community needs; conduct outreach to potential employers and potential participants, make presentations, develop curricula and resources for programs; coordinate quarterly meetings for staff.

Supervise program staff, including an employment specialist, a case manager/supportive services coordinator, and an ESOL instructor, to ensure timely and comprehensive training and employment services provided to students using a strengths-based approach.

Manage and support student participants: conduct participant intake, assess language proficiency, identify goals, connect with additional CCCS services; provide ongoing support to promote learning, engagement, and retention; advocate for students’ employment-based rights and work with employers to resolve issues; work one-on-one with participants as needed.

Monitoring and evaluation: assess and monitor student progress to ensure achievement of departmental and programmatic goals. Track/analyze attendance, learner feedback, instructor feedback, community surveys/needs assessments, MSC/qualitative narrative evaluation. Compile monthly statistics and reports, including reports to funders and other internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related or relevant field; or 3+ years of related experience in the field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of work experience with immigrant populations.
  • Experience working with adult learners.
  • Previous experience working with diverse, vulnerable populations.
  • Experience with community outreach.

​Compensation: 70-80k
