Position: Instructor (ESOL)
Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation has an opening for five Part Time ESOL Instructors  in the Potencia NOW Program in the Career and Education Programs Division. This position is paid on an hourly basis. 
 
Principal Duties: 
  • Customize instructional materials by building on own training and experience to create high quality lesson plans to instruct adults in English as a Second Language, using an integrated and relevant, student-driven curriculum. 
  • Personally assess each student's level of ability to ensure appropriate placement.
  • Prepare and distribute instructional materials for classroom/homework use. 
  • Manage the classroom effectively to maximize student learning. 
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and work collaboratively with the staff concerning curriculum development. 
  • Communicate with program director/site coordinator regarding apparent barriers to student success (e.g., child daycare needs, possible health/housing issues, etc.).
  • Maintain daily student attendance records. 
  • Prepare reports on students’ attendance and progress, as required. 
  • Maintain and update students' learning portfolios. 
  • Coordinate with program director regarding next steps in student's progress toward their goals.
  • Participate in initial staff training and at least 15 hours of additional training each program year. 
  • Demonstrates commitment to leadership development, community building, and community organizing as strategies for social change 
  • Provide all required information for weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual reports.

Position Requirements: 
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) required. TESOL, English certificate preferred.
  • BEST Plus certification preferred.
  • Three years experience serving adult learners, teaching ESL / ESOL.
  • Experience in working with immigrant communities. 
  • Appropriate reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in English.
  • Ability to provide services in a manner sensitive to the backgrounds and cultures of program participants. 
  • Bilingual Spanish required. 

Salary: $27.50 - $29.00 per hour. 

Schedule: Monday – Thursday, 6.00 pm – 9:00 pm

Women In Need (Win) - New York based nonprofit organization that serves homeless women and their children www.winnyc.org 

Overview:
The Director of Income Building is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating and supervising staff responsible for all employment activities for adults living in Win shelters and Supportive Housing.  The Director is responsible for the successful integration of assessing clients job readiness, job development and support goals of each client employment gains to ensure compliance with Win’s and other agency contractual requirements.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
 
Program Management
  • Collaborate with the Program Directors in developing job fairs and targeted employer recruitment events for Win Clients. Coordinates events and ensure the Income Building Specialist are informing and preparing clients for the events.
  • Coordinates the referrals of Win clients to targeted job training programs.
  • Ensures consistency in collaboration between the Case Managers and the Income Building staff across Win.
  • Collaborates with the Program Directors in the development and the coordination of job readiness workshops and other client employment activities (such as escort to outside job fairs and recruitment events) across Win.
  • Champion the use of evidence based practices (EBP) in all aspects of work life; promote strengths-based, trauma-informed, family centered, culturally reflexive program environment; model use of EBP for staff and peers; use strength based approach and motivational in managing staff; train and support staff in their use of EBP with clients; use EBP to meet and exceed program goals.
  • Monitor the program’s effectiveness to ensure that program is achieving its goals relative to the placement of clients into securing employment, maintaining employment and establishing family stability
  • Analyze, develop and implement procedures and policies to ensure quality service provision 
  • Collect, organize and coordinate data and tracking of client employment gains.
Human Resources/Staff Supervision
  • Directly supervise , provide coaching, training and development to all staff, as needed 
  • Coordinate staff training, including implementation of in-service training
  • Recruit, hire and train staff in accordance with Win’s policies and procedures 
  • Ensure that orientation is provided so that new staff become quickly assimilated 
  • Ensure that all staff receive timely and quality performance evaluations in accordance with Win’s  policies and procedures
  • Ensure that Win’s Work Force Planning Department is consulted on all staff discipline or possible termination issues prior to any action being taken
Administrative
  • Actively participate in Win’s Quality Assurance and Improvement process by attending all meetings and serving on one or more of subcommittees, task force or other special assignment
  • Submit quality and timely reports to Win and other regulatory agencies as mandated and ensure that all staff of the residence are in compliance with their respective reporting requirements
  • Conduct and participate in all meetings relating to staff and program management
Community Relations 
  • Ensures that program staff maintains a consistent working relationships with employers that are appropriate for our job seeking population.  Maintain a bank of employers who are hiring within the industries appropriate for Win clients.
  • Establish liaisons with appropriate community and government agencies to maintain linkages for employment and educational services required by Win
  • Represent the agency at meetings, conferences and public hearings to gain and share information relevant to the program’s operation.  
Qualifications:
  • M.S.W. or M.A. in Social Services or related fields.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the human services sector, which includes three (3) years in a supervisory role with responsibilities for managing employment programs, budgets and staff.
  • Familiarity with the following Evidence Based Practices is required along with ability to demonstrate success using the EBP model preferred. 
  • Familiarity with homeless population, women and outreach/engagement strategies.
Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be detail oriented and demonstrate ability to multi task; meeting multiple   deadline demands 
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Bilingual – English/Spanish preferred.
  • Solid computer skills required including MS Office Suite and Outlook. 
  • Knowledge of CARES a plus.

Director – Literacy and Legal Immigration Programs (Astoria & New York City)
Job Summary:  Oversee HANAC’s adult literacy and legal immigration services funded under multiple contract sources.  Ensure contract requirements of quality program content, curriculum development, and service delivery are met consistently. 
Reports to: Director of Operations and Program Development
 
Essential duties and responsibilities:
  • Institute appropriate systems and procedures to ensure the orderly delivery of program services as prescribled by the program contracts for Adult Literacy and Legal Immigration programs,
  • Responsible for the overall development, implementation, coordination and monitoring of the contracts and components,
  • Provide direction and leadership to the program staff to insure implementation and coordination of activities,
  • Ensure programs meet performance targets according to contract requirements,
  • Ensure curriculum content and delivery are in compliance with funding sources within required set standards as well as meet established guidelines of contracts,
  • Lead, supervise and evaluate  staff of educators, case managers, and administrative staff to ensure quality programs in compliance with HANAC’s and funding sources’ performance standards,
  • Monitor enrollment and ensure enrollment targets are met for all programs in each cycle,
  • Establish and maintain communications with funding agencies; for planning tracking and reporting program deliverables and outcomes,
  • Utilize provided software for reporting to funding sources (ASISTS, CAPRICORN and others),
  • Ability to understand and analyze budgets as assigned by contracted vendors
  • Prepare and submit to Administration for approval to submit to funding source monthly, quarterly, annual performance reports, track progress to reach milestones and performance targets,
  • Involvement with program contract agencies and related community agencies, committees and associations such as NYCCAL, NY Coalition for Immigrant Services, NYC DYCD, RAENs.
  • Other duties as may be required.
 
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree with three to five years working for not-for-profit Adult Literacy programs with Legal Immigration components. Master’s degree in Education, administration or other related field  with 3 years experience in supervisory role working in Adult Literacy and Legal Immigration.
 
Superb leadership, analytical, organizational and management skills.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills including grant writing skills.  Effective interpersonal and team-building capabilities.  Ability to establish and utilize linkages including HANAC’s other programs to enrich program activities and meet the needs of clients.
 
Computer Skills – Microsoft Office.  Knowledge of ASISTS, CAPRICORN and BEST PLUS certified.
 
This position is determined to be Exempt for purposes of the US DOL FLSA.
 
Salary: low $60s.

Summary of Position
The Adult Literacy Instructor is responsible for lesson planning, performing student assessments, and managing student portfolios in a mixed-level classroom. The Instructor facilitates progressive student-centered curricula surrounding parenting, identity, personal history, and culture. This position is 21 hours a week. Though part-time, applicants receive health benefits in addition to sick and vacation hours. Some evening and Saturday hours are required.  
 
Summary of the Agency:  The Coalition for Hispanic Family Services is a multi-service agency serving children and families of North Brooklyn and Queens.  These include foster care, adoption, youth development, primary health care, mental health, HIV/AIDS case management, community health education and outreach, in-service internships and after school education.
Duties:
  • Design thematic-based ESL lessons 
  • Travel to more than one community center for instruction
  • Record keeping and documentation of attendance, including monthly evaluations and student success stories.

CAMBA, Inc. seeks a part-time ABE instructor to work at its Adult Literacy Center (885 Flatbush Avenue – Brooklyn, N.Y.)
The class will meet in the evening from 5:30 to 8:30, Monday through Friday.
Candidates must have a B.A/B.S. in education or a related field; Masters preferred. Candidates must have taught ABE/GED for at least 3 years and must have experience administering TABE and working with low income and/or ethnically diverse populations.
For this position, the ability to effectively teach Reading Comprehension, Critical Thinking, and Essay Writing skills to TASC candidates is a must.
Applicants with experience in computer-assisted instruction, who are self-starters, and highly organized are preferred.
