Position: Learning Strategist – Part-Time (25 hours)
The Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center is a nonprofit, multiservice organization focusing primarily on the needs of children and low-income families, out-of-school and out-of-work youth, and aging New Yorkers. We operate programs at community centers located in the neighborhoods of East Harlem and Yorkville, and seek to deliver experiences that are impactful, innovative, and intergenerational.
The Isaacs Center is looking for an experienced educator with a strong pedagogical background. The ideal candidate is experienced in balanced-literacy instruction and basic math. The Center is part of a ground-breaking initiative that teaches reading, writing and math in context of information technology and health. This is a wonderful experience for a former charter or public-school teacher. Individuals with substantial instructional experience in the Adult Literacy space also will be considered. The goal is to raise the TABE scores of young people in reading and math during one or more 11-week cycles. A curriculum is provided.
Hourly Rate: Up to $30 an hour, depending upon experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work in close collaboration with the Instructional Leader and the Coordinator of Academic Services to develop curriculum, coordinate testing and assessment, and create comfortable environments for diverse learners.
- Develop and implement teaching strategies to assist young adults who have not found success in traditional learning environments. Provide and support a differentiated instructional model.
- Administer multiple forms of assessment, including summative and formative assessments, and use these assessments to inform lesson planning and day to day instructional strategies
- Facilitate instruction as needed. Provide one-on-one tutoring.
- Incorporate practical and project-based learning opportunities, discussion groups, and media in order to create a dynamic classroom experience.
- Maintain student portfolios, records, and contacts.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field required; Master’s degree preferred
- Minimum of four years classroom teaching experience working with high-risk adolescent population
- Knowledgeable of and ability to apply positive youth development principles
- Demonstrated ability to motivate and challenge students to achieve a high level of performance through rigorous academic performance
- Experience in curriculum design and implementation.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
