ESL Instructor- evening class in the Bronx
The Jewish Community Council of GCI is looking to hire an experienced Adult ESL instructor to provide ESL instruction to adults in the Bronx. Class will meet 2 evenings per week from 6-9pm. 
Duties include: assessing/testing students, providing appropriate instruction etc. BA and excellent English written/oral skills required. Bi-lingual Spanish and BEST Plus certification strongly preferred.

HSE Instructor F/T

Kingsborough Community College is seeking a dedicated and committed HSE instructor to work with students 17.5 – 20 years of age, who dropped out of school before graduating, without having achieved the high school diploma.

​The instructor will be required to have NYS grades 7-12 certification in at least one of the four core content areas (English Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, or Math), in order to be eligible to teach the program.

The position is full-time (five hours daily, 25 hours per week), beginning with the FA24 session (Sept 16 - Dec 12), and future semesters contingent upon student enrollment. Classes meet regularly in person, Monday-Friday, 9am-2pm.

ESOL Instructor P/T

The Lehman Adult Learning Center seeks dynamic ESOL teachers for part-time employment starting September 2024.

Teacher will provide ESOL instruction to adults. Must be creative, proactive, organized, and committed to learner-centered, participatory education.

Duties include:
  • Create and implement student-centered lessons with a thematic focus;
  • Maintain accurate attendance records;
  • Assess students’ work and provide feedback on an ongoing basis;
  • Attend staff meetings;
  • Participate in program-wide events and activities;
  • Attend Professional Development workshops as required;
  • Administer BEST Plus test, and participate in registration and orientation;
  • Work collaboratively with all ESOL teachers to share curriculum ideas, lesson plans, and classroom management strategies.

Core Competencies/Qualifications:
  • Qualified candidates must have prior experience teaching in Adult ESOL classrooms, both in person and on Zoom.
  • Bachelor's degree and ESOL teaching certification preferred.
  • Must be creative, proactive, organized, and committed to learner-centered, participatory education.

The Lehman College Adult Learning Center is seeking a dynamic part-time ABE/HSE Reading & Writing Teacher to work with a diverse group of adult learners. The class meets for two sessions a week, and morning or evening sessions may be available. 
$37.00  per hour

Essential duties include:                                                                                   
  • Providing high-quality theme-based instruction to help students develop their reading and writing skills 
  • Designing engaging lessons to help students foster a love of reading and learning 
  • Integrating different online platforms and technologies to deliver instruction effectively

CUNY Start Writing Assistant P/T

Background
CUNY Start is an intensive pre-matriculation program that helps CUNY associate degree-seeking students increase their academic proficiency in English and mathematics. The CUNY Office of Academic Affairs, the University's community colleges, New York City College of Technology and the College of Staten Island work collaboratively to provide students with an innovative approach to developmental education. CUNY Start is recognized for its carefully designed curriculum and pedagogy, ongoing professional development, and mentor- based training  model.

​CUNY Start’s English program is offered as part of CUNY Start’s full-time program or as a standalone English program, known as English Start, during the summer, winter, fall and spring semesters. Students in the CUNY Start English program are provided with specialized instruction and advisement that helps students develop their English skills, prepare for college-level English classes, and meet CUNY proficiency milestones.

Job Description
The CUNY Start Writing Assistant is a part-time College Assistant who will work as a member of the English team, supporting the work of the Core teacher in a CUNY Start classroom. The Writing Assistant reports to the CUNY Start Director at their appointed campus.

CUNY Start may deliver instruction in multiple formats: in-person, online or as hybrid classes that are both online and in-person. Online instruction may be a combination of synchronous and asynchronous teaching that is determined at the discretion of program management. Online work may entail instruction on such platforms as Blackboard, Brightspace, Zoom, and other remote instructional tools that are available and approved by the University and which support the goals and practices of the program.

Responsibilities
  • Key duties include, but will not be limited to the following:
  • Read the CUNY Start English Curriculum closely, and become familiar with CUNY Start learning procedures, 
  • assignments, and goals;
  • Attend portions of the CUNY Start English class, and support the CUNY Start Core teacher as appropriate;
  • Respond in writing to student papers and essays;
  • Facilitate and/or support small groups including circulating throughout the class to observe and guide 
  • student discussions;
  • Tutor CUNY Start students individually and in small groups;
  • Participate in CUNY Start team meetings about students’ progress;
  • Participate in training activities led by the CUNY Start Professional Development team for English;
  • Perform duties assigned by the Core teacher, including taking attendance, tracking students’ assignments, and setting up online and in-person classrooms.

Requirements
  • The preferred candidate will possess the educational and professional qualifications as indicated below:
  • Experience responding to academic writing and working with non-traditional college students
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Ability to assist students and perform duties online

Employment
  • $25.51 per hour for approximately 20 hours a week for 12 weeks or 240 hours with the possibility of continued appointment in the spring based on available funding and program need.
  • Appointment period: Fall 2024 
  • Successful candidates have the potential for continued employment in spring 2024 pending funding availability and program need.

District Council 37 Education Fund is hiring a Part-time writing instructor for the Basic Skills Program.  At this time, all of our classes are virtual.

Class Schedule: Tuesdays 6:00-9:00 pm
September 10-December 3 (no class November 5)
Pay: $60.00 per hour for instructional time and scheduled meetings

Responsibilities:
  • The ability to teach applied writing skills adult learners in a mixed level, virtual setting
  • Develop engaging materials and lesson plans with the aim of improved writing skills for improved job performance and personal development
  • Topics covered include email etiquette, writing memos, using concise language, writing incident reports, using correct grammar and punctuation and eliminating construction errors.
  • Students will create a revised resume and a basic cover letter
  • Ability to use virtual platforms such as Zoom or Ring Central
  • Be comfortable with using video and computer during class
  • Ability to use Google Drive is an asset
  • Willing to work as an independent contractor
