English for Speakers of Other Languages Instructor   
Part-time, 7 -14 hrs per week, evening

Fifth Avenue Committee (FAC) is a 46-year-old nationally recognized South Brooklyn based, non-profit community development corporation and NeighborWorks America chartered member whose mission is to advance economic, social, and racial justice through integrated, community-centered affordable housing, grassroots organizing, policy advocacy, and transformative education, training and services that build the power to shape our community’s future.  

FAC’s Adult Education and Literacy unit serves over 1000 adult students per year through ESOL/ELA, ABE, HSE/GED, Digital Literacy and Bridge Programming with access to wrap around services and supports to improve educational and employment outcomes for our students. Integrated into all FAC’s Adult Education programming are case management, career navigation, digital skilling, device lending, financial literacy, civics education and advocacy opportunities aimed to ensure our participants have the skills and resources necessary to fully participate in society and have the opportunity to become leaders in their communities. FAC is a firm believer in growth mindset and popular education.  
 
Responsibilities: 
  • Work with the Adult Education leadership to develop curriculum that is level appropriate and includes specific goals for individual student growth in a student-centered environment.   Enable students to increase their reading, writing, and speaking skills  
  • Introduce students to community and cultural resources to make students comfortable traveling outside their neighborhood. The Instructor will plan field trips and assist students in engaging in community activities.  
  • Maintain and update all student records, including personal information, education background and employment history and periodically update test records and employment and education goals, reporting any barrier to education to insure appropriate counseling. 
  • Attend a minimum of 14 hours of staff development with approved providers and in-house staff. 
 
Qualifications 
  • B.A./B.S. degree is required. 
  • At least two years recent and relevant teaching experience with immigrant populations. 
  • Highly organized with excellent communication skills.   
  • Certified Best Plus Test Administrator a plus. 
Classes meet in Sunset Park 
Compensation: 
$37-40/hour

Harlem Works is the job readiness component of the Northern Manhattan Perinatal Partnership (NMPP), a community-based, maternal and child health organization. Harlem Works aims to support NMPP’s target population with knowledge and skills that will aid them in obtaining gainful employment.

We seek to hire an experienced adult ESL instructor/ consultant to conduct ESL classes for our Spanish and West African program participants.

Responsibilities:
  • Assess/test program participants
  • Provide ESL Instruction
  • Track participants’ attendance/progress
  • Manage classroom dynamics

Requirements:
  • BA and excellent English language skills are required.
  • BEST Plus or a recognized TESOL certification preferred.
  • BEST Plus or ESOL teaching experience is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds is strongly preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish or French is desired.
Hours: Wednesday or Thursday: 11am to 1pm (day /time is negotiable).

​ESOL Instructor - Part Time  in Queens
We are seeking a motivated and experienced ESOL Instructor to deliver high-quality English language education to adult immigrants and New Americans under the funding and guidelines of New York City’s Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD). This part-time role requires a dynamic educator committed to fostering significant learning progress and community integration.
Responsibilities include:
  • Instructional Delivery: Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality ESOL training to adult students as outlined by the NYC Department of Youth & Community Development (DYCD) 
  • Classroom Management: Oversee all classroom paperwork including attendance sheets, progress reports, and educational materials. Organize make-up sessions and handle classroom logistics.
  • Online Instruction: Skilled in conducting classes virtually.
  • Effective Time Management: Ensures punctuality by arriving at least five minutes before class begins.
  • Student Support: Assist in the recruitment and retention of students, enhancing their educational experience by working closely with volunteers and teaching assistants.
  • Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development and attend staff meetings to maintain and improve instructional skills.

Full-Time Case Manager for COJO Flatbush Adult Education Program
COJO Flatbush is hiring a full-time Case Manager to support students enrolled in our Adult Education 
Programs, which include GED-Prep and Computer Classes. The Case Manager plays a key role in guiding 
clients through challenges, developing actionable plans, and connecting them with essential resources 
to ensure their long-term success.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive case management services which includes but not limited to, intake assessments, setting goals, and developing action plans for COJO Students.
  • Offer education and career counseling to assist students in identifying pathways to reach personal, educational, and professional goals.
  • Facilitate coordination with external service providers, government agencies, and community organizations to build a strong support system for participants.
  • Maintain and update participant records, ensuring accurate documentation in DYCD Connect to track interactions and outcomes.
  • Conduct regular follow-up meetings with participants to monitor progress and adjust goals as needed.
  • Lead workshops and group sessions focused on education, career development, and family support resources.
  • Work collaboratively with the Adult Education team to provide holistic, integrated support.
  • Stay updated on local resources, policies, and best practices in family development and social services.
Qualifications:
  • Candidates must meet one of the following criteria:
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field, with experience in City systems (public assistance, child welfare, education, and housing); OR
  • Associate’s degree, completion of Family Development Training (or other DYCD-recognized credentials), and experience in City systems; OR
  • At least 3 years of proven experience in case management or counseling, with knowledge of City systems.
Compensation:
Annual Salary: $40,000 - $45,000 based on experience + Benefits

Intake Advisor F/T

Adult Learning Center Intake Advisor (Wakefield Library)
Overview
Adult English Language and Literacy (AELL) is the direct service provider of ESOL and adult literacy instruction for the Library.  Professional teachers facilitate free instruction to adult patrons in reading, writing, speaking, and listening from a 0 to 8th-grade level in both in-person and online classes. Instruction is offered in 3, 10-week cycles and 1, 4-week summer cycle. The Intake Advisors recruit new students, determine eligibility through testing and interview, and  monitor attendance, and student retention.  Intake Advisors follow up with students to identify barriers to participation and encourage continuation in the program. 

Responsibilities 
  • Provide case management services to students including running information sessions, organizing the intake appointment process including assessment (Best Plus and TABE), NRS goal setting, and placement in a class, or referral to an outside agency; monitor student progress, daily follow up with students who have an attendance problem to encourage continuation in the program 
  • Input data for students into the agency database in a timely manner, which includes client personal contact information, assessment results, attendance, and educational and employment outcomes.
  • Test all students at the end of each cycle
  • Maintain paper record files for each student as per NYSED requirements
  • Conduct outreach
  • Connect adult students with needed and available community resources. Follow-up with clients and agencies as appropriate to document use/success of referral.
  • Provide workshops on using technology, orientations to library services, etc.

Required Education & Certifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, English, literacy, or a related field
  • Certification in Best Plus and TABE (attainment of certification required within the first 3 months of employment)

Required Experience
  • 1 year of experience working with culturally diverse populations
  • Experience using databases (data entry and management)
  • Knowledge of community resources and counseling/social services for high needs populations. (literacy and language needs)

Required Skills
  • Experience in data entry and utilization of various databases
  • Intermediate knowledge of Excel and Google Drive
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Proficiency in navigating and leading meetings on Zoom
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, 
  • Ability to work with culturally-diverse communities 
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

ESOL Instructor P/T

Part Time ESOL Instructor
Adult English Language and Literacy (AELL) is the direct service provider of ESOL and adult literacy instruction for the New York Public Library.  They use professional teachers to offer free instruction to adult patrons in reading, writing, speaking and listening from a 0 to 8th grade level. Through formal classes in language and literacy, as well as elective offerings such as English conversation and citizenship preparation groups, AELL has taken on the charge to expand ESOL programming in the Library through both in-person and online instruction.

Key Responsibilities:
​Working with the Associate Director and the Hub Manager, hourly instructors will:
  • Teach ESOL classes that promote English language proficiency for students assessed at NRS levels 1-6
  • Follow the prescribed curriculum in a communicative language  teaching environment during class-time.
  • Instruct adult ESOL students in classes and learning experiences which will lead to the achievement of their educational and personal goals.
  • Assist in the managed enrollment process to recruit and maintain students and student records
  • Maintain daily attendance records
  • Prepare weekly lesson plans for each session based on the curriculum.

Skills Knowledge & Expertise
  • Bachelor’s degree required, with training and/or experience in ESOL
  • Experience teaching adults both in-person and online
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work well with a variety of people, in a multicultural setting, involving a variety of team situations
  • Experience administering standardized assessments
  • Successfully demonstrated knowledge of technology-assisted learning, instructional software, video, audio and distance learning
  • Successfully demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Zoom
