ESOL Instructor - Part Time in Queens
We are seeking a motivated and experienced ESOL Instructor to deliver high-quality English language education to adult immigrants and New Americans under the funding and guidelines of New York City’s Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD). This part-time role requires a dynamic educator committed to fostering significant learning progress and community integration.
Responsibilities include:

Instructional Delivery: Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality ESOL training to adult students as outlined by the NYC Department of Youth & Community Development (DYCD)
Classroom Management: Oversee all classroom paperwork including attendance sheets, progress reports, and educational materials. Organize make-up sessions and handle classroom logistics.
Online Instruction: Skilled in conducting classes virtually.
Effective Time Management: Ensures punctuality by arriving at least five minutes before class begins.
Student Support: Assist in the recruitment and retention of students, enhancing their educational experience by working closely with volunteers and teaching assistants.
Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development and attend staff meetings to maintain and improve instructional skills.
Collaborative Efforts: Work collaboratively with program staff and other instructors to enhance curriculum delivery and address student needs effectively.

Part Time ESOL Instructor
Adult English Language and Literacy (AELL) is the direct service provider of ESOL and adult literacy instruction for the New York Public Library. They use professional teachers to offer free instruction to adult patrons in reading, writing, speaking and listening from a 0 to 8th grade level. Through formal classes in language and literacy, as well as elective offerings such as English conversation and citizenship preparation groups, AELL has taken on the charge to expand ESOL programming in the Library through both in-person and online instruction.

Key Responsibilities:
Working with the Associate Director and the Hub Manager, hourly instructors will:

Teach ESOL classes that promote English language proficiency for students assessed at NRS levels 1-6
Follow the prescribed curriculum in a communicative language teaching environment during class-time.
Instruct adult ESOL students in classes and learning experiences which will lead to the achievement of their educational and personal goals.
Assist in the managed enrollment process to recruit and maintain students and student records
Maintain daily attendance records
Prepare weekly lesson plans for each session based on the curriculum.

Skills Knowledge & Expertise

Bachelor’s degree required, with training and/or experience in ESOL
Experience teaching adults both in-person and online
Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work well with a variety of people, in a multicultural setting, involving a variety of team situations
Experience administering standardized assessments
Successfully demonstrated knowledge of technology-assisted learning, instructional software, video, audio and distance learning
Successfully demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Zoom

HSE Instructor F/T

Kingsborough Community College is seeking a dedicated and committed HSE instructor to work with students 17.5 – 20 years of age, who dropped out of school before graduating, without having achieved the high school diploma.

The instructor will be required to have NYS grades 7-12 certification in at least one of the four core content areas (English Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, or Math), in order to be eligible to teach the program.

The position is full-time (five hours daily, 25 hours per week), beginning with the FA24 session (Sept 16 - Dec 12), and future semesters contingent upon student enrollment. Classes meet regularly in person, Monday-Friday, 9am-2pm.

Teacher will provide ESOL instruction to adults. Must be creative, proactive, organized, and committed to learner-centered, participatory education.

Duties include:

District Council 37 Education Fund is hiring a Part-time writing instructor for the Basic Skills Program. At this time, all of our classes are virtual.

Class Schedule: Tuesdays 6:00-9:00 pm
September 10-December 3 (no class November 5)
Pay: $60.00 per hour for instructional time and scheduled meetings

Responsibilities:

The ability to teach applied writing skills adult learners in a mixed level, virtual setting
Develop engaging materials and lesson plans with the aim of improved writing skills for improved job performance and personal development
Topics covered include email etiquette, writing memos, using concise language, writing incident reports, using correct grammar and punctuation and eliminating construction errors.
Students will create a revised resume and a basic cover letter
Ability to use virtual platforms such as Zoom or Ring Central
Be comfortable with using video and computer during class
Ability to use Google Drive is an asset
Willing to work as an independent contractor
