ESOL Part-Time Instructors - Evening
The Lehman College Adult Learning Center (ALC) seeks dynamic ESOL teachers for part-time 
employment for the September 2026 to June 2027 academic year. 
Duties include:

• Provide ESOL instruction to adults following principles such as communicative language  practices, teaching grammar in context, reducing teacher talk, and scaffolding
• Create and implement student-centered lessons with a thematic focus
• Maintain accurate and timely attendance records
• Assess students’ work and provide feedback on an ongoing basis and at end-of-year conferencing; make level placement decisions for the following school year
• Utilize student data that the ALC provides to inform your teaching practices and ongoing  assessment
• Interact with and execute the Monthly Updates from the Program Manager
• Communicate and work collaboratively with all ESOL teachers to share curriculum ideas, lesson plans, and classroom management strategies
• Attend Professional Development workshops hosted by RAEN (minimum 14 hours per year), including immediate certification as a BEST Plus 3.0 oral test administrator
• Participate in program-wide events and activities, including but not limited to BEST Plus 3.0 testing, student registration/orientation sessions, and student celebrations

Core Qualifications include:

• Must have prior experience teaching in Adult ESOL classrooms, both in person and on Zoom
• Bachelor's degree required; ESOL teaching certification preferred
• Must be creative, proactive, organized, and committed to learner-centered, participatory 
• education

Hours: 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Schedule: 2 days/week either Monday & Wednesday or Tuesday & Thursday (in person or hybrid)
Pay Rate: commensurate with experience, starting at $37 / hour

The Lehman College ALC:
The Lehman College Adult Learning Center (ALC) is a teacher-led direct-service project of the Institute 
for Literacy Studies (ILS). Our shared mission—advancing urban education—has deep significance for 
the schools, colleges, and community-based settings in our home borough of the Bronx. Four interrelated

toward qualitatively better lives and economic self-sufficiency. Our classes embed adult learning in real life contexts to ensure that everyone who comes through our door has the skills to not only get a foothold but compete in the modern workplace.
