Financial Wellness Coordinator
The Pre-College Academic Programming Department at LaGuardia Community College (www.laguardia.edu/ccpi) is seeking a full-time Financial Wellness Coordinator to successfully implement all aspects of the precollege and first year Student Financial Health Early Alert Initiative (EAI). The Financial Health Early Alert Initiative connects low income, first generation students to the financial support and services they need to succeed in college.
 
Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with of EAI team, the Coordinator will oversee the implementation of all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the initiative to ensure that all timeline goals, grant deliverables and student success benchmarks are met. Career and College Pathways Advisor
The Pre College Academic Programming Department at LaGuardia Community College is seeking a Career and College Pathways Advisor. PCAP's mission is to increase adult students' success in pre-college, post-secondary training, and college degree programs.
Since 2006, PCAP has implemented the Bridge to College and Careers Program: an innovative outcomes-driven program that serves as a model for contextualized adult education programs around the country. The Bridge Program provides sector-focused, contextualized high school equivalency preparation for adults returning to school.
 
The Career and College Pathways Specialist is a lead member of the Pre-College Academic Programming team who works in and outside the classroom to provide college readiness services, comprehensive social supports and facilitate students' successful transition to and retention in postsecondary degree and training programs. Administrative Specialist
Reporting to the Executive Director of the Pre College Academic Programs (PCAP) and the College and Careers Pathway Institute (CCPI) at LaGuardia Community College, the Administrative Specialist comprehensively supports all aspects of the Department’s administrative, fiscal human resources and contractual business.  The Administrative Specialist will accomplish the following responsibilities:
  • Assist with overseeing of the day to day operations of the Department
  • Coordinate and maintain all administrative and fiscal aspects of grant implementation, contract training and office management, including managing contract execution and invoicing;
  • Liaise with the Grants Office and related campus fiscal and human resources offices in an effort to manage staff hiring, payroll, annual leave and evaluation processes
  • Assist with preparing presentations for events such as: professional conferences, interfacing with public and private organizations, developing reports and brochures for distribution, and attending campus committee meetings and events as assigned

ABS Spanish Literacy Instructor P/T

Part-time ABS Spanish Literacy Instructor at LaGuardia Community College
 
The Adult Basic Skills department is seeking a dynamic, hard working educator who has significant experience teaching diverse adult, non-traditional high school equivalency population in Spanish at the basic education level, including knowledge of the New York State –approved Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC). Specific experience teaching reading, writing and math in Spanish .
 
Candidates must have demonstrated experience with developing theme-based and interdisciplinary adult education curricula, designing student-centered classroom environments, and utilizing a variety of assessment methods. 
 
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor of Arts/Science degree, plus at least three (3) years adult education and/or non-traditional teaching experience, along with relevant adult education professional development required.
Position available for January 2017:  Evening position Mon/Wed/Thurs 5:30am-9:30pm
Salary $38 per hour.

Adult Basic Education Instructor P/T

Harlem Commonwealth Council, Inc. (HCC) is a not-for-profit 501(c) (3) local development organization dedicated to broad-based economic improvements to Upper Manhattan and the Bronx, as well as to their vibrant multi-cultural communities. Since 1967, Harlem Commonwealth Council has served the greater Harlem community by implementing a number of successful ventures and programs that promote self-sufficiency and create stability through economic development projects, academic empowerment and entrepreneurial support. Located in the heart of Harlem, HCC has a history of responding to the community’s needs. Initially, the organization’s Economic Development focus was real estate development. Currently, HCC’s Economic Development strategy includes helping launch and build businesses and assisting less skilled Upper Manhattan residents become economically independent through training and education.  
Key Responsibilities

An HCC ABE teacher is responsible for the implementation of basic education instruction to adult students. Under minimum supervision, the individual will conduct instruction as specified in HCC's adult basic education program curriculum guide.  With the assistance of the director, plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the adult student.
  • Maintains a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Uses a variety of instructional methods and techniques.
  • Meets and instructs classes as designated.
  • Prepares for all classes assigned.
  • Determines the correct entry level of students.
  • Evaluates student progress regularly with the intent of improving student performance in accordance with HCC and funding guidelines
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and up-to-date records.
  • Promotes and regularly monitors class attendance in accordance with HCC policy and funders expectations.
  • Intervenes as appropriate with students to discuss and promote class attendance and performance

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required or five years of teaching adult education.
  • Knowledge of adult student characteristics.
  • Knowledge of adult basic education content areas.
  • Teaching ability in ABE content areas.
  • Sensitivity to and experience working with diverse populations, and experience working with students of varying skill levels.
  • Ability to organize data to produce student reports.
  • Ability to make decisions concerning student instruction

Compensation/Schedule
$32/ hour; 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., Monday -Thursday

HSE Instructor (YALP) F/T

OBT's Young Adult Literacy Program (YALP) is for youth between the ages of 16 and 24 who lack the reading, writing and/or math skills needed to enroll in a High School Equivalency (HSE) Test Preparation Program. Trainees receive pre-HSE basic skills training along with full support services. The YALP instructor is responsible for creating and teaching a curriculum that would improve basic skills in English and Math to prepare trainees for entry into an HSE-level curriculum. The YALP instructor will also design and implement the service learning component of the program. Service Learning offers participants the chance to engage in structured learning, service projects, and reflection.
Bachelor's degree and teaching experience required; prior experience in teaching HSE (or GED) prep classes as well as knowledge of the new Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC) preferred; must be willing to work as part of a team; must be organized, detail-oriented and able to work in a fast paced environment; demonstrated commitment to achieving outcomes through a youth development approach; Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred please send cover letter, resume and salary requirements to Jason Rodriguez at [email protected]
