Educational Specialist F/T

Job description: The Educational Specialist will establish the framework of positive youth  development and career pathways and positive guidance to staff members  for the OST program. Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Identify learning needs and facilitates learning process, including development, delivery, implementation and evaluation of contextualized HSE
  • Plan and design curricula from education program, researches and defines educational goals, objectives and methodologies to meet program goals
  • Assist with developing an Individual Service Strategy(ISS) and developing educational career-related goals collaboratively with participants based on motivational interviewing process
  • In conjunction with Program Director develop and participate in high quality, relevant staff training
  • Provide positive guidance, discipline, mentoring and role modeling to staff members  and youth served
  • Support and work with program participants in career pathways
  • Provide supportive  services, recommend  interventions when appropriate and make educational referrals to other services when needed
  • Monitor attendance at Fedcap services and at offsite programming
  • Assist coordination of workshops to be offered to program participants
  • Handle data entry responsibilities, including outcomes reporting
  • Provide follow up services for program graduates
  • Participate in regularly scheduled supervision and ongoing training
  • Provide weekly reports to Program Director
  • Perform other duties as required
Skills and Qualifications
  • A minimum of bachelor’s degree in Education or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in curriculum planning, development and Writing
  • Demonstrated ability  to identify needs  analyze and logically organize complex information and transform that into professionally designed, engaging  and effective training materials
  • Experience working with youth and young adults, including three years of experience with court involved youth and young adults within the last five years
  • Ability to manage and facilitate educational programs
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent presentation, Writing and interpersonal communication skills
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred

Adult Learning Outreach Liaison (Part Time)
Brooklyn Public Library’s Adult Learning Department is seeking an Outreach Liaison to build relationships and interact with community partners to increase knowledge of BPL’s Adult Learning Programs and other compelling resources that the Library offers.
Responsibilities
  • Build relationships with community partners, civic associations, and public school parent coordinators.
  • Present BPL Adult Learning programs and other Library offerings at community meetings/gatherings, nonprofit partner staff meetings, local events.
  • Create a mobile outreach kit for use at information tables and presentations
  • Help develop/maintain Adult Learning section of BPL website & the department’s social media presence.
  • Coordinate quarterly partner breakfasts/meetings with local CBO’s
  • Track activities and statistics and help write reports for funders and other stakeholders
  • Participate in meetings/trainings
Qualifications
  • BA/BS in education or related field
  • Experience in adult education and/or working with adult learners
  • 1 year experience in non-profit outreach or marketing
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing); ability to present effectively
  • Experience building partnerships and collaborating with various agencies and programs
  • Ability to travel to other locations as required
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Fluency or familiarity in other languages is a plus
This is a grant-funded, part time position. Schedule: 10-15 hours/week @ $15.00/hour.
