ESOL Instructor, Job-readiness

The Andrew Romay New Immigrant Center is looking for a part-time ESOL Instructor to support new immigrants in the NYC area. The ESOL Instructor will support learners in achieving professional-level English proficiency. They will also build students' soft skills and knowledge of U.S. professional culture. Responsibilities
  • Teach 1 - 2 job readiness ESOL classes per class cycle for intermediate-level adult English language learners
  • Develop curriculum and lesson plans for job readiness ESOL classes
  • Set class expectations and goals
  • Provide constructive feedback as necessary
  • Build an inclusive and engaging community within the classroom
  • Support program staff in evaluating student outcomes
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of student attendance
  • Inform program staff about any issues with students
  • Participate in quarterly teacher team meetings 
Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • ESOL certification (CELTA, TESLA, MA in TESOL/Applied Linguistics, etc.)
  • 2+ years of ESOL teaching experience
  • Experience teaching job readiness ESOL classes (Business English, Oral Communication in the Workplace, Professional Communication, etc.)

Employer Engagement Specialist P/T

The Office of Workforce Development and Innovation at CUNY’s College of Staten Island, develops and offers workforce training programs designed to address critical skill gaps in high growth industries. The Workforce Development team seeks a P/T employer engagement specialist to serve as a liaison for CSI’s Cloud Academy AWS certification students and employment or internship opportunities in the cloud computing IT field. 

The P/T Employer Engagement Specialist’ responsibilities will center namely around employer engagement, recruitment, and hiring strategies; resulting in the creation of a robust pipeline of trained Cloud Academy graduates to high-quality, paid employment opportunities. The Engagement Specialist will work collaboratively with CSI’s Office of Workforce Development and Innovation team and Cloud Academy’s AWS instructors to design and provide learner-centered, career readiness activities, and facilitate networking events in response to demand for AWS certified employees. The Employer Engagement Specialist will report to the Senior Advisor in the Office of Workforce Development.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Analyze and collect IT job market trends to determine current market conditions and talent needs. 
  • Develop and sustain employer relationships in the IT career sector. 
  • Establish a pipeline of employment and internship opportunities for AWS participants and oversee the recruitment/placement process. 
  • Work with the business community to increase their participation in campus career readiness activities such as virtual or in-person career exploration events, professional panels, etc. 
  • Track and collect data around employer partners, internship and job opportunities.
  • Responsible for data entry for monthly progress reports.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least 3+ years of relevant experience in workforce development, particularly in the IT sector. 
  • Strong knowledge of hiring practices, entry-level talent needs, and paid internship/job opportunities.
  • Solutions-oriented, strategic thinker with a demonstrated ability to meet established targets and deadlines. 
  • Tech savvy and comfortable using a variety of technology tools and software. 
  • A natural relationship builder and demonstrated knowledge of effective strategies for working with faculty, students, and employers in promoting a diverse, equitable, 
  • and inclusive workforce/academic environment. 
  • Highly organized and able to work both independently and as part of a team. 
  • Attention to detail and excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must.

SUMMARY
The Part-Time Learning Support Specialist (LSS) works in Adult Learning divisions (Adult Learner Program, Young Adult Literacy Services, New Americans Program, Job & Business Academy and Digital Literacy) to provide direct public service to program participants and administrative support to programs. This position is responsible for delivering excellent customer service, assisting in classes to promote student learning and success as well as performing routine administrative and clerical duties. The Part-Time Learning Support Specialist supports the Library’s mission, values and overall strategic plan.  This position provides input to improve the customer experience as well as staff procedures and workflows.  Performs other duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
General Office and Administrative Support (50%)
  • Provides reception and administrative support to the ALP Divisions
  • Daily Operations: 
  • Center organization (follow policies and procedures) 
  • Ensure book/display cases are in order
  • Front Desk and Computer Lab Coverage 
  • Virtua (Basic Book / Patron Search)
  • General office and administrative tasks including but not limited to, answering phones, filing, scanning and faxing, preparing materials for mailings, distributes incoming mail
  • Manages office supplies including surveying the supply storage areas to ascertain what is needed and submits orders on a regular basis.
  • Creates and maintains student folders (assists with student file management for all classes) 
  • Maintains program files and records 
  • Reviews staff & volunteer timesheets for accuracy prior to supervisor’s approval. 
  • Follows-up with instructional staff about professional development requirements, submitting their monthly reports, lesson plans, and quarterly lesson overviews
  • Gather information for reports, enter data, and compiles reports.  Submits reports based on established deadlines.
  • Ensures that assigned clerical projects are carried out and completed in a timely manner. 
  • Shelves library materials and performs other tasks to keep the collections in order.

Classroom Assistance (20%)
  • Provides teachers with administrative support (prepares photocopies, sets up classroom)
  • Assists with Lesson Planning, administering assessment tests, and conducting orientations
  • Facilitates groups in teacher's absence and/or as needed and provides student mentoring 
  • Supports teachers in using appropriate tools to measure the outcomes of student learning
  • Assists in training of volunteer tutors and provides feedback to tutors (lesson topics, etc.)
  • Assists teachers in technology training workshops and digital learning tools

Database Management (ASISTS and other tools) (15%)
  • Enters and updates student records 
  • Monitors and tracks student attendance and test scores; follows-up with absences, lateness, incomplete documents, and reminders, etc.
  • Conducts student follow-ups 
 
Participant Intake and Support (15%)
  • Supports outreach to internal and external partners to promote services and recruit participants
  • Administers assessment tests (TABE and BEST Plus) 
  • Assists with HSE Screenings and maintains screening spreadsheet 
  • Assists staff in preparing information session materials, room and event setup
  • Assists in the student intake, directs students through the registration process
  • Provides support with registration and processes (utilizes ASISTS, and other tools)

​SCHEDULE
Varied schedule that includes evenings and Saturdays with a maximum of 17 hours per week.

CORE COMPETENCIES
The Part-Time Learning Support Specialist must consistently demonstrate the following competencies when performing the above responsibilities, including but not limited to: initiative, flexibility in approaching daily responsibilities, cooperative teamwork, and impacting and influencing services provided in Queens Library communities.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS 
  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalency required. College Degree preferred.
  • Highly proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Office
  • Must have a minimum of one (1) year of customer service and/or retail-oriented experience
  • Ability to provide instruction for a variety of software applications including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office (primarily Word, Excel, PowerPoint), internet and email 
  • Excellent presentation skills, detail oriented, flexible and a self-starter 
  • Good organization and administrative skills including experience with tracking program attendance and preparing reports
  • Must have the ability to work with a diverse population and effectively provide customer service to a large number of customers simultaneously
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Must work successfully in a team environment, good networking skills
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for public service

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in Data entry and/or using ASISTS - Adult Student Information System & Technology Support

  • Fluency in a second language 
  • Public Library experience and/or Adult Education experience

The Education Center provides adult education services to the Brooklyn community. We serve 500 students yearly with GED prep and ESL classes, and vocational training. The Education Center operates a Family Welcome Center providing case management & wrap-around services, workforce development programming, and regular community workshops & events. Many of our students speak Spanish, Arabic, or Chinese as their first language. 

The Science Teacher –  works an 11 week cycle, pay range $35/hour to $35/hour. 

Responsibilities:
  • Will design and facilitate ALE courses in accord with the CUNY HSE Curriculum Framework;
  • Administer placement and assessments;
  • Report data to funders;
  • Update necessary databases;
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors and case managers;
  • Maintain office hours;
  • Participate in fundraising events.

The Education Center serves 500 students yearly with GED preparation classes, ESL classes, and vocational training and operates a Family Welcome Center (FWC) to provide case management & wrap-around services, workforce development programming, and regular community workshops & events.
This is a full time position, Tuesday – Saturday, 10:00am – 6:00pm and pays between $55,000 and $60,000 per year. 

The Coordinator manages the Education Center’s data and reporting obligations, data base management and audits for contracts with NYSED, DYCD, HRA & NYSCA.  As FWC Coordinator oversees the program calendar, case management & wrap-around services, add-on programs, and workforce development programming.

The Lehman Adult Learning Center seeks a dynamic ESOL teacher for a part-time in-person opening with a level 1 evening class T/TH 6-9pm, starting immediately (February, 2023). Rate of pay $37/hr.
