ABE Instructor/Success Coach F/T

CAMBA’s Workforce for HomeBase Program is seeking an Adult Education Instructor/ Success Coach to join a team providing an innovative new model of service.
 
In this role, you will assist clients facing a housing crisis in identifying and clarifying their own career and financial goals for personal success and partner with them to improve their focus and presentation skills, secure employment and assess potential career pathways, and access financial coaching and educational and vocational training opportunities to ultimately advance their employment options and earning power.
 
Key responsibilities Include:
  • Assisting clients to identify and achieve realistic goals, exploring their unique processing styles and ingrained habits/beliefs, as well as creating actionable steps to meet their goals.
  • Partnering with clients to improve areas of personal development including: executive function concerns, time-management, motivation, stress management, and decision-making
  • Familiarizing students with career, educational and training resources, developing a timely career track congruent with students’ chosen pursuits.
  • Providing classroom instruction on relevant subjects (i.e. Goal setting, Personal finances and budgeting, Job search skills, Career path planning, etc.)
 
MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) and one year of applicable experience and/or equivalent experience
 
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Experience in adult education and career exploration - teaching style must be hands-on, interactive, and participatory (not lecture based).
  • Experience in communicating and working successfully with people from a broad range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Working knowledge of coaching and motivating - guiding individuals through the stages of change leading to new behaviors and habits.
  • Working knowledge of NYC workforce development, educational, vocational training and financial literacy programs a plus.
  • Familiarity with NYC public benefits and housing subsidies a plus.

Position Overview
Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW) seeks a part-time and/or as needed mathematics instructor to assist NEW graduates and students in learning the concepts and mathematical functions necessary to successfully prepare for entry tests required of unions and employers. 
 
Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching adult learners
  • Experience teaching mathematics
  • Experience teaching in nontraditional (non-school) setting, such as workforce development or adult education programs preferred
  • Experience teaching trades-related mathematics preferred but not required
  • Must be available evenings and/or Saturdays
 
Hourly rate commensurate with experience.

Position: ESOL Teacher (Volunteer) – Summer 2017

About Mercy Center:

We promote an improved quality of life by addressing the needs of the whole person in a community of respect, hospitality, and non-violence.

Who we’re looking for:
  • Experienced teachers with good interpersonal skills who enjoy working in diverse linguistic and cultural settings.
  • Proficient English speakers with good working knowledge of English grammar and language use.
  • Passionate teachers looking to empower immigrant communities through English language education.
  • Applicants with minimum 2-3 years of ESL teaching experience required.

Responsibilities:
  • Help second language learners improve their English conversation skills through communicative language teaching (CLT) approach.
  • Implement and adapt lesson plans from a standards-based curriculum.
  • Report to the Director of Adult Education and Workforce Development.

Session Dates:
Monday, July 10th – Thursday, July 27th 
Class Schedule:  Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 9 AM – 1 PM
Commitment: Minimum 2 days per week

HSE Math  Instructor  
Part-time 7 to 16  hours per week/morning and/or evening. (one morning class and one evening class available)  Start Date- July 6, 2017
B.A./B.S. degree is required and at least two years recent, relevant teaching experience. 
Strong math skills required. 
Familiarity with TABE test administration and TASC test required.  
Must be willing to travel to South Brooklyn
Compensation $39 per hour.  Pro-rated accrued sick and vacation time earned.

Adult Literacy Support Specialist – Brooklyn, NY (Full-Time)

Work hours are 12:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. most days but must be flexible regarding work schedule.  Must be willing to travel between program sites and to perform the duties of the position from any site. Responsibilities include being able to work effectively with adults in an educational setting; being able to pre-screen requests for program services both in person and via telephone; ability to obtain and manage required documentation and enter internal and external data in a timely and accurate manner.  Must be highly organized and possess the ability to organize and conduct intake and orientation sessions and to facilitate ESOL and HSE instructional classes as needed; must be able to maintain a high degree of discretion in dealing with confidential information; ability to work as part of a team and to take on their different roles if needed; Bi-lingual English/Spanish required; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and clerical experience required. Associates Degree preferred.
