HSE in Spanish Instructors P/T

The Adult Education Program at Union Settlement is happy to announce the opening of (2) two part time instructor positions to teach HSE/ABE in Spanish.  One instructor will be teaching one evening and one Saturday class.  The second instructor will teach one Saturday class only.   

Instructors are responsible for curriculum development, instruction, student attendance, pre/post testing, etc. They are also expected to attend professional development meetings and work collaboratively with the Case Manager and the Program Assistant. Must be creative, dedicated, organized, punctual, and able to communicate in English and in Spanish.  A Bachelor’s degree and experience teaching GED/HSE is required, as well as knowledge of the TASC exam.  Classes are expected to begin in January. Bilingual Health Careers Instructor P/T

We are looking for a Bilingual Health Careers Instructor for our funded El Camino Health Pathways Program.  This is a transition program (12pm-3pm) for ESL adults who will be going into certified training programs or applying for entry level jobs in the health field.  The instructor must be bilingual (English/Spanish), have direct experience in the healthcare field, and knowledge of certification requirements for a wide variety of entry level positions (home health aide, medical assistant, certified nursing, etc. ). The ideal candidate will have good communication skills in English, exhibit professionalism, and be flexible and caring. Pre-HSE Teacher P/T

Brooklyn Public Library is seeking 2 Pre-HSE instructors to teach intermediate level adult basic education classes. Instructor will teach reading, writing and math to adults using curriculum developed by BPL and including CCSS, in a technology rich classroom.
 
Responsibilities: Prepare syllabus that uses library collections and curriculum, Engage students in a rich learning environment; Administer mandated assessment and conference individually with students: Submit attendance and documentation of student progress as required; Participate in regular staff meetings for curriculum and staff development.
 
Requirements: BA/BS required. MA in education a plus; Proven effectiveness with struggling learners; Strong organizational skills required; Comfort with basic technology; 6 hours/week +1 hours for prep and administrative work. Mornings, evenings or Saturday available. Salary: $38 per hour.

Social Worker/Case Manager 

ParentJobNet seeks to strengthen the scope and effectiveness of its holistic workforce development programs in NYC school districts 3, 4 & 5 community areas with the addition of a seasoned Social Worker. The Social Worker will work with the executive team and report to the Program Director to enhance a rapidly growing organization and develop best practices to support our clients and referral services.  
 
The Social Worker provides supportive services (includes client advocacy, service coordination, interview coaching, and case management) weekly to our adult clients and is responsible for evaluating and assisting adult clients seeking employment and training assistants with their social services needs while supervising graduate students in their field placement assignments. Working with the Career Counseling team, the Social Worker will assist participants (in group and individually) to meet their goals related to employment and education by addressing barriers such as housing, healthcare, child care, and public services.  The position will be based out of ParentJobNet’s public school based offices in East Harlem or Harlem.  
 
The mission of ParentJobNet is to help educate, prepare, and connect low- to-moderate-income public school parents with job opportunities and other economic resources to empower them to build financial security and peace of mind to help their children succeed academically.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Perform client intake to determine nature of client's situation by interviewing client and assessing social service’s needs and provide crisis intervention when needed
  • Develop and implement course of action by exploring options; setting goals with client
  • Advocates for and obtains assistance for client by referring him/her to community resources; arranging for appointments; assist clients with completing relevant applications for subsidies and programs; establishing rapport with other agencies
  • Maintains case records by documenting client's situation and client's actions
  • Advises Career Counselors and Managers as to best course of action for clients
  • Monitors clients planned actions by periodic follow-up
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements and maintains client confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential
  • Supervise graduate social work students as field instructor and perform all duties related to field supervisor
  • Input client-related data into our Sumac database and provide statistics and reports to the Executive team as needed
  • Perform all other tasks deemed necessary by Program Director to assist in achieving  service and programmatic goals​
Qualifications:
  • Master's (MSW) degree in social work and at least three years post-master’s experience
  • Must have SIFI (Seminar in Field Instruction) or equivalent training
  • Experience working directly with families of diverse demographics and cultures, a plus   
  • Diverse knowledge of community resources
  • Strong case management and organizational skills
  • Good judgment and problem solving ability
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Google Drive, Yahoo Mail and Internet research

Literacy Coordinator
Job Description: The literacy coordinator works across offices with a team of fellows and trainers to provide job training assistance. The coordinator should have experience teaching, giving presentations to large groups, and marketing programs. As this is a new program, the role requires the candidate to be very flexible and able to adapt both to changes in student population and city mandates.  The individual should have experience managing staff and tracking data.

Duties:
  • Collaborate with literacy team and the Director of Education to effectively engage clients in job-related training programs
  • Teach courses at both locations including computer literacy, Food Handler’s, HSE Classes, ESL, and OSHA to individuals enrolled in the Literacy program
  • Improve and implement curriculum that teaches literacy and numeracy skills through job-training, including vocabulary building, math, and reasoning
  • Monitor and evaluate program performance according to enrollment, retention in coursework, and employment outcomes
  • Supervise small team of fellows in enrollment, teaching and referral process in our Brooklyn, Bronx and Jamaica Offices
  • Work with teammates across offices to assist with job applications, resume, case management, and general needs of the client
  • Think creatively about ways to market programs, engage more participants, and improve outcomes
Qualifications:
1-2 years of teaching experience required, ability to manage staff necessary. Master’s degree a plus. Must be able to work at multiple sites when needed.

LITERACY TRAINER
As businesses and technologies shift, the skills required to succeed in the workforce are also changing. America Works has been connecting job seekers with training opportunities to help improve their options in the current economic landscape of New York City.

​Job Description:
The trainer will work with the literacy and fellowship team to provide skills-based, marketable training programs to adult job seekers. The person should have experience teaching, enjoy working with diverse groups of people, and be capable of learning new skills and relating that information to others. The trainer will work closely with clients in the Bronx location.
Duties:
  • Work with literacy team to provide job-readiness, customer service, and vocational training to low-income and unemployed adults.
  • Facilitate literacy courses in Spanish and English; refer clients into programs including ESL, Home Health Traininer, OSHA 10-hour, Security, CDL and Food Handler's Certification.
  • Work with literacy and training team to advertise and recruit individuals interested in particular career paths.
  • Translate complex material in a way that is engaging and fun for participants.
  • Assist Spanish-speaking individuals in navigating the job search process; provide assistance with resumes, job applications, and training.
  • Work with sales team to connect participants in classes with employment opportunities.
  • Provide general job search advice, including interview skills, resume building, and job application tips.
  • Track attendance, examination, and employment outcomes for participants in courses.

  • People-person: Truly loves working with others, able to relate to individuals from all walks of life, patient and understanding.
  • Engaging: Strong presentation skills with a knack for engaging audiences, capable of teaching both one-on-one and large groups

WPTI Field Building Hub Director F/T

WPTI Field Building Hub Director
The Director will guide the launch of the Workforce Professionals Training Institute (WPTI) Field Building Hub, a new innovation and capacity-building center designed to strengthen the New York City workforce development community. The Director will lead and oversee all aspects of the Hub’s implementation and raise future funding. 
 
The Director will work in close coordination with WPTI’s leadership team, and be guided by a field-wide Hub Advisory Committee. The Director should be inclusive, resourceful, and entrepreneurial.
 
The Hub will have three core functions : 
1) Innovation: encouraging true systemic and practice change in the field;
​2) Strengthening: offering training and consultation to create field-wide strength and resilience; and 3) Convening: bringing together key stakeholders from across the entire workforce field to identify system change issues and capacity gaps, shaping the future of the field.
