ESL/Computer Instructor- Evening class in Forest Hills, Queens
The Jewish Community Council of GCI is looking to hire an experienced Adult ESL/Computer instructor to provide ESL/Digital Literacy instruction to adults in the Queens. Classes will meet in the evenings from 6-9pm. 

​Duties include: assessing/testing students, providing appropriate instruction etc. BA and excellent English written/oral skills required. BEST Plus certification strongly preferred.

YALP Program Associate P/T

Overview
The Program Associate is a grant-funded position within Brooklyn Public Library’s Literacy Program department. The Program Associate will work under the supervision of the Young Adult Literacy Program Coordinator and perform general administrative support for the Young Adult Literacy Program (YALP). Administrative tasks and day-to-day activities include: data collection; data entry, creating and maintaining electronic tracking systems; filing; ordering program materials; programmatic support and other general clerical duties as needed. The program seeks someone with a dynamic personality, with extraordinary people skills and a creative eye; as the position will require overseeing YALP’s social media and web page presence, participating in outreach events and partnering with YALP Coordinator to shore up professional community partnerships.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the preparation of reports
  • Data entry in Microsoft Excel and DYCD managed databases
  • General organization and inventory maintenance of program supplies and materials in two sites
  • Receive telephone calls, answer questions from outside patrons, and transfer calls as needed
  • Work collaboratively with BPL’s Marketing Department to maintain current and engaging content on YALP’s BPL webpage and social media
  • Frequent interaction with program staff, students and the public
  • Performs related duties as required
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree preferred, 2 years of satisfactory full time clerical experience (Associate degree or 60 credits may substitute for one year experience)
  • Knowledge of computer software with proficient use of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher, and Access) & Outlook
  • Attention to detail and the ability to organize and execute multiple tasks in a deadline-oriented environment
  • Superior customer service skills, interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills
This position will work from multiple sites. Pay rate is $25.00 an hour, 15 hour work week. This is a grant funded position through June 30, 2019.

OBT Role Description:  High School Equivalency Instructor - Part-Time – Far Rockaway
As Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow (OBT) celebrates its 35 Anniversary, we are seeking a High School Equivalency (HSE) Teacher for youth and adult learners to teach all five subjects (Reading, Writing, Social Studies, Math, and Science) to prepare students for the TASC exam. This is a part time position, Monday-Thursday from 11am-2pm, at OBT's Far Rockaway location in Queens, starting February 25, 2019.

  • Responsible for developing and instructing HSE preparation course curriculum that integrates all five content areas prepares students for the TASC exam;
  • Assist in administering TABE and TASC Readiness Assessment;
  • Report attendance, test scores and outcomes using funder guidelines;
  • Must maintain a 75% average daily attendance;
  • Maintain a classroom community that is engaging and interactive;
  • Monitor student progress, identify internal and external barriers to achievement;
  • Routinely meet with individuals to help them identify strengths, challenges, and set realistic goals;
  • Provide explicit feedback to students about their educational progress and goals;
  • Attend professional development and staff meetings,
  • Perform all other appropriate duties as assigned by supervisor.
 
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and two years HSE teaching experience required, preferably at a non-profit organization; master’s degree in Education preferred. Knowledge of common core basics and TASC exam; knowledge of workforce development recommended; ability to problem solve; excellent organizational and communication skills; ability to work independently or as part of a team.

ESOL Instructor P/T

The Adult Learning Center at NYC College of Technology seeks dynamic ESOL instructors for evening classes in Borough Park, Brooklyn (very close to the D train Fort Hamilton Parkway stop).  Scheduled start date is late February, and classes will meet on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, 6pm - 9pm.
 
Responsibilities include:
  • Customize instruction to create a high quality English curriculum and lesson plans for adults
  • Create a student-centered, engaging learning environment
  • Assess student progress and provide feedback
  • Administer and monitor student testing, including Best Plus and Best Literacy  
  • Maintain attendance records and communicate with administrative staff and counselors regarding student absences and other issues
  • Complete 14 hours of professional development through Regional Adult Education Network (RAEN) offerings
 
Qualifications:
  • BA or BS in education or related field, TESOL preferred
  • Minimum two years related teaching experience, preferably in grant-funded literacy programs
  • Experience creating thematic, content-based curricula
  • Best Plus certified preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing and oral communication skills

Part-Time HSE Program Assistant
The HSE Program Assistant will provide quality professional support for the Brooklyn Public Library’s Adult Learning Program High School Equivalency office at the Pacific branch. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, extremely organized, able to multitask, handle large amounts of program data, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Also, must be able to pay attention to accuracy, detail and confidentiality.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with new HSE enrollments (TASC/NEDP)
  • Review documentation to ensure it is valid and meets funder requirements
  • Coordinates and composes HSE enrollment letters, track participant attendance, and assist HSE instructors as needed
  • Assist with coordinating communications, including taking calls, responding to emails and interacting with program participants.
  • Maintain an organized filing system of paper and electronic documents
  • Facilitate bi-weekly HSE screening presentations and process enrollment applications
Qualifications 
  • High School Diploma/HSE equivalent required
  • One year of related work experience in an administrative office setting
  • Knowledgeable of NYS 4 Pathways to earn your High School Diploma
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Google Suite
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to form and maintain professional working relationships with staff, external stakeholders and program participants
  • Passion for Adult Learning (HSE)
This is a grant funded, part time position. Salary for the position is $15 per hour up to 19 hours per week.
Schedule: Mondays 2pm-6pm, Thursdays 3pm – 8pm, Fridays 11am-3pm, Saturdays 9:30am – 3:30pm

JOB LOCATION: Queens Library Rochdale Adult Learning Center 169-09 137th Ave., Jamaica NY 11434
 
Job Summary:
Rochdale Adult Learning Center seeks Part-Time Adult Basic Education/High School Equivalency Teachers to teach 4-5 subjects (Reading, Writing, Social Studies, Math and Science) to adult students in the Adult Education Program, and prepare students for the TASC exam. The position requires creative and dedicated instructors particularly experienced with teaching adults. We have immediate openings for the Spring Semester. Mondays from 4PM to 8PM  and Wed from 10AM to 1PM.  Starting pay is $38 per hour.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Manage a classroom of up to 15-25 adults over the age of 18+.
  • Help students prepare for the TASC exam and improve their literacy level.
  • Develop daily lesson plans aligned with curriculum.
  • Review assessments tests and monitor students’ educational progress and liaise with staff members. Provide feedback and establish education plans
  • Report attendance for each session. 
  • Demonstrate ability to perform multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in using technology in the classroom.
  • Knowledge of MS Office and google drive. 
  • Provide tutoring services to students
Qualifications:
  • The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and minimum 3+ years’ experience teaching Adult Basic Education.
  • Experienced teachers with good interpersonal skills who enjoy working in diverse cultural settings.
  • Passionate teachers looking to empower underserved communities through Adult Basic education.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, verbal and written skills.
  • Experience with TABE testing preferred.
  • Knowledge of Common Core Basics and College and Career Readiness Standards preferred.  
  • Knowledge of the New York State TASC exam preferred.​
