Instructor Professional Development Coordinator - Full Time

The 32BJ Training Fund is seeking qualified candidates for full-time Instructor Professional Development Coordinator in our Manhattan location.
About Us: SEIU 32BJ is a service union headquartered in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan that represents cleaners, maintenance workers, service staff, and security officers in the New York City area and nine other states on the East Coast. Our mission is to educate every member so that they have the tools they need to meet the challenges of a changing industry.

Summary: The Instructor Professional Development Coordinator works with a team of Instructor Coaches to arrange and deliver comprehensive instructor orientation and ongoing Professional Development (PD) opportunities based on principles of student-centered learning in order to retain and grow teaching staff

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure consistent orientation of all instructors
  • Design, launch, assign and track online PD modules
  • Organize workshops (remote and in-person) including scheduling, announcements, confirmations, determining cohorts, registration, facilitation, attendance, and follow-up surveys
  • Provide just-in-time training to instructors needing support (Learning Management System (LMS), instructional technology, timesheets) to resolve Quality Assurance errors
  • Maintain and expand PD library 
  • Collaborate daily with Manager of Instructor Development, Instructor Coaches, Curriculum Team, Site Managers, and educational consultants
  • Arrange instructor peer observations
  • Help coordinate Welcome Back school year kick-off event including keynote speakers
  • Assist with instructor recruitment and retention
  • Review observations and identify instructors’ PD needs 
  • Observe and coach 5-10 instructors per trimester
  • Provide observation back-up to Instructor Coaches
  • Arrange instructor peer observations
  • Conduct trainings with Instructor Coaches and Instructors in Ed Tech
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Travel to off-site locations to conduct periodic observations and training
  • Flexible schedule ((Monday-Friday, one Saturday a month to swap with Monday)

Technical Skills:

Adult Education Professional Development Associate:  The Literacy Assistance Center (LAC) seeks a dynamic adult educator and/or professional developer to join its professional development team. The position will have a strong focus on literacy and workforce professional development with instructional technology experience preferred. This is a full-time position
 
This team member will primarily be responsible for assisting in the delivery of the literacy-based trainings for ABE/HSE young adult and adult educators, implementing professional development activities on topics relevant to the current needs of youth workforce practitioners, covering assigned administrative duties and collaborating with other LAC professional development team members on assigned projects.
 
Reports to: Director of Numeracy and Workforce Development Services
 
Responsibilities:
  • Design and lead online and/or in-person workshops, participate in the LAC’s practitioner learning community, facilitate instructor coaching in content area of literacy
  • Develop curricular materials with and for workforce & ABE/HSE instructors, including materials that integrate academic skills development, digital skills and digital resiliency, and contextualized instruction
  • Coordinate and manage professional development events for assigned projects
  • Collaborate with project leads to design and develop contract workplans and needs assessments
  • Analyze and use qualitative and quantitative data to inform practice
  • Work with other LAC professional development team members to provide multi-content trainings and services
  • Learn and manage assigned contractual administrative duties

Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in education or a related field
  • Minimum of five years of experience as an adult literacy instructor, manager, and/or staff developer
  • Experience and proficiency in contextualizing and integrating literacy instruction with workforce development and career pathways
  • Experience delivering professional development and coaching adult educators
  • Understanding of adult learning theory and best practices
  • Demonstrable experience with instructional technology or digital literacy skills development (highly preferred)

Job Description
Global Language Project is a seeking a Teacher Professional Development Specialist/Consultant to work with us to design and deliver customized professional development for in-service K-12 ENL/ESL teachers.
 
Founded in 2009, the Global Language Project (GLP) is a New York City based organization providing best-in-class professional development to teachers. GLP believes that learning a world language is no longer a luxury; it is a necessary skill that students must have in order to compete in a global economy. Through extensive, ongoing training, and standards-aligned, tailored curricula, GLP is actively supporting educators in the development of a world-ready, 21st century classroom.
 
The Consultant/Specialist Will:
  • Work with teachers of ENL/ESL and general education teachers who have significant numbers of ENL/ESL students in their classes
  • Lead workshops with small groups of teachers onsite and virtually
  • Provide coaching to individual teachers in their classrooms
 
Areas of Specialization Should Include:
  • Developing academic literacy in K-12 students
  • Strategies for integrating ENL/ESL students in mainstream (English only) classes
  • Proficiency based language instruction
  • Using data to drive instructional practices

This team member will primarily be responsible for assisting in the delivery of the TESLA (Teaching ESOL to Adults) certificate program, implementing ESOL and/or ABE/HSE professional development activities on topics relevant to the current needs of adult educators, coaching ESOL and/or ABE/HSE teachers in the field, and collaborating with other LAC professional development team members on assigned projects.
Reports to: The ESOL Specialist
 
Responsibilities:
  • Work with the ESOL Specialist to implement the Literacy Assistance Center’s TESLA certificate program. Assist with lesson plan review, scheduling, practicum mentoring, and conducting TESLA class sessions
  • Support TESLA students in their use of the online learning platform, Moodle
  • Conduct ESOL and/or ABE/HSE workshops for New York City adult educators

Position Summary:
As part of the Education and Learning Initiative, the Education Specialist will be part of a team responsible for guiding the design and implementation of instructional programming at Phipps Neighborhoods. The Education Specialist will facilitate development and execution of academic interventions and learning strategies to support the individual learning strengths of our diverse population of learners. S/he will provide expert instructional support and training for staff, and be integrally involved in building and refining curricula and assessment instruments.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage the design, support, and effective implementation of youth-friendly, goal-oriented instruction that results in academic success for all students.
  • Serve as an organizational expert in all aspects of teaching and learning, including current trends and research in the field of education.
  • Forge collaborations with instructional staff across the agency to ensure that curriculum and instruction meet the needs of a diverse population of learners, is aligned with Common Core State Standards, and meets contractual expectations and benchmarks.
  • Develop and refine curriculum and instruction practices at Phipps Neighborhoods.
  • Institute curricular and instructional approaches that infuse work readiness techniques and basic skills education; evaluate the effectiveness of such approaches, and make appropriate refinements.
  • Craft and implement academic intervention strategies that address the individualized learning strengths of a diverse population of learners.
  • Design assessment and goal setting instruments and oversee staff and volunteers through the implementation of these processes.
  • Coordinate comprehensive academic services for special populations of students.
  • Conduct periodic audits of instructional programming to ensure program quality, including sound provision of instruction, to help ensure the achievement of student goals.
  • Work with instructional and administrative staff to set high and measurable goals for student achievement.
  • Provide on-going instructional and curriculum development support for instructional staff and volunteers by conducting training, on-site coaching, and resource development.
  • Demonstrate an understanding and practice of the principles of positive youth development.
  • Attend all relevant meetings, trainings, workshops, outside events and organization-wide activities.
  • Handle additional responsibilities and functions as assigned by Director of Learning and/or Senior Director of Learning and Career Development.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in the field of education, preferably including a combination of classroom teaching and administrative experience, in both school and out of school time settings.
  • 2-3 years of experience in youth and/or workforce development.
  • Experience in training and supporting pedagogical staff.
  • Demonstrated record in achieving results with low-income, urban adolescents.
  • Proven experience in guiding the development of curricula by other educators/youth workers.
  • Familiarity with research-based approaches to hands-on, experiential, community–based and/or project based learning models, differentiated instruction, mixed-skill and age groupings, culturally relevant teaching practices, formative assessment techniques and working with English Language Learners and students who are striving learners.
