PER DIEM ESOL ADULT EDUCATOR 
HOURS: CLASS HOURS ARE TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS, 8:30-11:30, OTHER HOURS VARY (STAFF MEETINGS, PROFESSIONAL

The Family Health Centers at NYU Langone’s mission is to improve the health of underserved communities by delivering high-quality, culturally competent health care and human services. Recognizing that health depends upon an individual’s economic, educational and employment status, FHC’s Department of Community-Based Programs offers an extensive continuum of family strengthening and community development programs to address the broader needs of the community, including adult education; case management and supportive services; mental health services; early childhood centers; and community service opportunities. 

Position Summary: 
The ESOL Adult Educator is responsible for curriculum development, instruction, assessment, coordination with support services, and record keeping. Instructors also attend monthly staff development sessions and work at registration and orientation sessions throughout the academic year. Instructors must be creative and dynamic with a commitment to learner-centered, participatory education. ESOL instructors certified to administer the BEST Plus exam preferred. Bilingual (Arabic, Chinese, Spanish) a plus.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop student centered curriculum
  • Ensure that lessons are logically sequenced, level appropriate, and address varying learning styles and needs.
  • Develop strategies and lesson plans that integrate job readiness, financial literacy, digital literacy and health literacy activities into curriculum.
  • Provide the program director with a course description and outline.
  • Maintain a classroom atmosphere that is conducive to learning
  • Ensure that all students participate in lessons; elicit responses from less vocal students; work one on one with students when necessary.
  • Administer pre and post test Best PLUS 3.0 assessments
  • Accumulate, record, and report student data regarding participation, progress, and outcomes in a timely manner.
  • Work with support services staff to ensure that students' extra curricular needs are met. 
  • Attend required orientation/development days as well as monthly staff development sessions

Requirements:
  • B.A. required
  • At least two years of experience in adult education
  • Demonstrated digital literacy expertise
  • Strong Interpersonal skills
  • Time management skills are essential.
  • Appreciation for the unique needs of participants
  • Interest in and awareness of working with underserved communities
  • Demonstrated commitment to a philosophy that is participatory, data-driven, and values problem solving

Part Time ​GED/HSE Instructor 
Location:  Brooklyn College 2900 Bedford Ave
Hours: Part-time, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 9-12 PM & 6-9 PM
Salary Range: $44/hr
This position would be taking over a class midway through the term.

Brooklyn College Adult Literacy Program provides cost- free ESOL, High School Equivalency (HSE/GED) preparation, and pre-HSE/GED services. Students enter the program with various goals, from learning English to earning the credentials necessary for access to gainful employment or higher education. Our Instructional model is focused on collaborative learning with the goal of creating shared knowledge to achieve learning goals.
Responsibilities:
  • Instruction of  GED preparation classes
  • Pre-testing and post-testing using TABE
  • Attend monthly staff meetings
  • Track student attendance in accordance with guidelines
  • Optimizes learning outcomes (observes classes, collects student feedback, monitors test scores, and takes steps to improve learning outcomes)
  • Attend 14 hours of professional development
  • Other duties, as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Three or more years of teaching experience in an adult education setting
  • Strong computer skills, proficient in G suites
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to be resourceful
  • Ability to be communicative and flexible

The Manager of Community Education is responsible for organizing strategies and managing learning resources for all RaisingHealth educational offerings. This includes, but is not limited to, curricula oversight for English as a Second Language (ESOL) courses, Mental Health First Aid, workshops and trainings on immigrant rights, civics, health access and literacy and other adult courses.
Duties:
  • Develops and executes a comprehensive community education plan, aligned with RaisingHealth’s mission, to increase understanding and achievement of learning objectives with adult learning participants. This will include specific objectives and strategies to identify, cultivate, and engage with clients RaisingHealth supports.
  • Provides oversight of RaisingHealth educational programming including ESOL courses, Mental Health First Aid, CPR and other educational workshops and event outreach activities and experiences, including special events that AMPHS hosts and community events in which RaisingHealth participates. Responsibilities include curricula development oversight, educational activities, and related learning materials.
  • Develops, supervises, and supports Community Education Partners, Instructors, and other program staff as needed. Projects a positive image of all aspects of RaisingHealth to achieve trust and respect from the community as well as staff.
  • Partners with social workers and instructors to identify and address barriers to adult student learning.

Requirements:
  • Experience: 5 years of experience of demonstrated proficiency developing lessons, curriculum and facilitating experiential educational programming for adult learners. Demonstrated knowledge and skill of adult learning principles required. Program evaluation experience highly preferred.
  • 2 years experience in staff supervision, professional development, training, mentoring and supporting staff one-on-one to meet programmatic goals. Prior experience as an ESOL Instructor highly preferred.
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Training, or related field or a comparable combination of education and experience. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Language - Bi-lingual language skills in Spanish and/or Mandarin highly preferred.
  • BestPLUScertification preferred. Certification is required once established in Manager of Community Education role.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large projects, special events, and meetings. Community outreach, public engagement, cultural competency work, planning and/or conducting educational or recreational programs experience is highly preferred.
  • Ability to empathize, advocate, and represent the needs of the community served by RaisingHealth. Prior experience supporting the population served is highly preferred.
  • Computer literate. Excellent command of MS Office Suite especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
