Fifth Avenue Committee Inc. (FAC), is a nationally recognized South Brooklyn based, non-profit comprehensive community development corporation formed in 1978 whose mission is to advance economic, social, and racial justice in New York City through integrated, community-centered affordable housing, grassroots organizing and policy advocacy, and transformative education, training and services that build the power to shape our community’s future. FAC’s Adult Education and Literacy unit serves approximately 1000 adult students per year through ESOL/ELA, ABE, HSE/GED, Digital Literacy and Bridge Programming with access to wrap around services and supports to improve educational and employment outcomes for our students. Integrated into all FAC’s Adult Education programming are case management, career navigation, digital skilling, device lending, financial literacy, civics education and advocacy opportunities aimed to ensure our participants have the skills and resources necessary to fully participate in society and have the opportunity to become leaders in their communities.

Responsibilities:

• Instructor will work with the Adult Education Leadership to develop curriculum that is level appropriate and includes specific goals for individual student growth in a student-centered environment.
• The Instructor will enable students to read, write and problem solve at a level sufficient to pass the GED exam.
• The Instructor will work with students to set goals for further academic studies, job training, employment or post-secondary education.
• The Instructor will maintain and update all student records, including attendance, personal information, education background and employment history, periodically update test records, employment and education goals.
• The Instructor will take part in a minimum of 14 hours of staff development annually with approved providers.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in related field and 2 years working with Adult Learners preferably in a community-based organization setting.
• Comfortable teaching all levels of high school Math, ELA , Social Studies and Science including advanced topics in algebra and geometry.
• Familiar with CASAS test administration (or similar standardized test) and the  GED testing process.
• Able to incorporate technology and test taking strategies into lesson planning.
• Confident managing a classroom
• Excellent communication skills.
• Commitment to FAC’s mission of racial, economic, and social justice.
• Culturally sensitive.

$37 to $40 per hour

NYC COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY
The Adult Learning Center (ALC) provides English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Basic Education (BE) and High School Equivalency (GED) preparation to adult learners in downtown Brooklyn and offsite locations.

Reporting to the Director and Assistant Director of Education Programs, the Data Manager is responsible for managing the Adult Student Information System and Technical Support database (ASISTS), which is used by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) to monitor and evaluate grant funded adult education programs. The Data Manager provides administrative and instructional support necessary to the effective operation of the ALC. 

Responsibilities:

• Competently utilize the program’s ASISTS enrollment management system, ensuring timely entering and managing of data that properly aligns with reporting needs
• Prepare attendance reports and general enrollment information for data analysis
• Follow-up with program participants to secure critical information, including outcomes data
• Coordinate, conduct and assist with in-person intake, registration, testing, placement, and related enrollment tasks
• Liaise with and provide administrative assistance to instructors and staff
• Collaborate on the development of flyers, forms, surveys, and spreadsheets
• Complete 14 hours of Regional Adult Education Network (RAEN) approved trainings and workshops annually
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED; college degree preferred
• Competent in the use of technology and MS Office applications
• Demonstrate sensitivity in working with personal and confidential records, including adhering to FERPA and other policies
• Teaching or data management experience, or a general understanding of Adult Education and a genuine desire to work with the adult literacy community
• Familiarity with social media to help promote program class offerings and services
• Well organized, able to prioritize, think critically, and meet deadlines
• Ability to multitask, be flexible, creative, resourceful, and work independently and as part of a team
• Flexibility to work some evening hours on a consistent basis
