PART TIME HSE INSTRUCTOR POSITION(S)

Under the supervision of the Director and Assistant Director of Education Programs, the HSE Instructor provides ELA & Math High School Equivalency instruction to evening students at the Adult Learning Center. This includes instruction in reading, writing, science, social studies, and math content.

Classes meet on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 6 - 9pm.

There are two openings: one beginning on March 4, 2025 with an additional position beginning on April 22, 2025.

There is the possibility of hiring separate instructors - one for the ELA portion and one for the Math portion of the class. Wednesday evenings are math classes with ELA on Tuesdays & Thursdays.

All instruction is in person at CUNY City Tech in downtown Brooklyn at:
300 Jay Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201.

Responsibilities include:

Create a student-centered, engaging learning environment, as required by CUNY
Develop theme-based, contextualized lessons using both synchronous and asynchronous instruction in the following subject areas: science, reading, writing, & social studies
Assess student content knowledge and tailor instruction relevant to GED preparation
Evaluate student progress and provide feedback, both formally and informally
Administer required assessments, which may include TABE other testing related to the GED
Maintain attendance records and work collaboratively with office and counselors on student participation and needs
Complete professional development hours as required by the Regional Adult Education Network (RAEN)

Qualifications:

BA or BS in education or related field
Minimum two years related teaching experience, preferably in grant-funded literacy programs
Knowledge of GED exam and subject area content
Ability to create thematic, content-based curricula
Proficient at integrating technology into lessons
Excellent interpersonal, writing, and oral communication skills

Full-time Computer/Digital Literacy Instructor Needed

CAMBA is looking to hire a full-time Computer/Digital Literacy Instructor to work at its Education Center, located at 10 Snyder Avenue (3rd Floor) in Brooklyn.

Using NORTHSTAR Digital Literacy’s modules and curriculum, the CAMBA Digital Literacy Instructor is responsible to pre-test students in order to gauge their initial skills, train them in the areas where they show gaps, and post-test them to determine progress.

The instructor is responsible for educating students on essential digital skills, including the use of technology, online safety, and digital communication. The instructor will aim to help multi-ethnic adult/young adults develop and enhance the technical skills they need in order to become employed, to get better jobs, and to communicate effectively in their daily life activities.

The work schedule is 9:00 am to 5:00 pm from Monday to Friday. Full-time instructors teach a morning class from 9 am to 12 pm and an afternoon class (with different students) from 1 to 4 pm.

Services are provided on site and in person only.
The salary is $45,000.00 annually.

Adult Learning Center Site Manager F/T

The Learning Center Site Manager, under the direct supervision of the Manager of Operations, Adult Learning Centers, is responsible for maintaining the quality of adult education services, leading the instructional and support team, the daily operations of the Adult Learning Center as well as the fostering and maintaining a collaborative relationship within the Learning Center’s community. The Learning Center is a dynamic adult education facility that provides education and resources for adult new readers and writers, speakers of other languages, pre-HSE/HSE students and integrated training and education classes.

Responsibilities

Train, motivate, lead, and foster a collaborative teamwork environment and evaluate Learning Center and program staff including, literacy advisor, office associate, volunteers, and other assigned staff
Recruit, train, and collaborate with literacy advisor to support volunteers
Knowledge of adult learning practices for all adult reading levels (0-12), able to model and lead instructional groups
Managing and coordinating adult education programs and ensure program standards, targets, and community needs are being met and/or exceeded
Build annual goals and performance targets for site and programs; grow enrollment, retention, and other program outcomes annually
Monitor progress of groups and classes onsite and offsite by conducting periodic observations/visits and provide feedback for evaluation and program improvement
Lead and be an active participant in the recruitment efforts, intake, registration, orientation, assessments, student placements, and ensure students receive a quality experience
Coordinate and implement expanded technology training classes and other workshops of interest to students and community members
Conduct student and program assessments to ensure continuous improvement and maintain student files and program audit documents
Ensure quality delivery of services and targets are being met
Represent BPL Adult Learning Center in citywide and statewide meetings
Compile and review various reports to ensure site and programs are meeting program quality monitoring goals and benchmarks; ensure overall data management of site and programs
Develop and maintain a comprehensive collection of educational materials that includes books, appropriate online resources, and other multi-media material
Foster community partner relationships, coordinate outreach activities and interact with other providers to promote Adult Learning Center programming
Work with volunteers, advisors, and others in the department to ensure curriculum is meeting student and program needs
Complete a personal and staff professional development plan annually; help with staff development training as necessary
Collaborate on departmental and institutional projects, committees, and initiatives when appropriate (such as GED examiner, etc.)
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

BA Degree in Education, or related field
At least four years experience in Adult Education;
Two years of experience working in a supervisory capacity over a site and/or programs in Adult Education or related field
Success with leading an instructional team, meeting program targets, and fostering relationships in the community experience is a plus;
Knowledge of the proposal and grant funding process; some project and/or grant management experience preferred;
Computer literate in Microsoft Office & other computer applications;
Excellent communication & interpersonal skills.
As with all appointments and promotions, staff will be required to work evenings & weekends to better serve community needs.

The case manager will help ensure that our program participants are knowledgeable of free programs/ resources that will help alleviate any barriers to completing their educational goals.

Responsibilities

Conducts a comprehensive literacy and educational/vocational assessment to develop a plan of service to meet participant’s needs (approximately 50 clients per year).
Identifies post-secondary transition programs and assists out-of-school youth and adults to earn their high school diploma, improve their English skills, and to improve their reading and writing skills and succeed in post-secondary education, apprenticeship programs, or training.
Communicate effectively and collaborate with key staff and instructors to ascertain barriers that specific participants may be experiencing that prevent them from meeting their educational needs.
Collaborates with and refers participants to various community partners for wrap-around services, including health literacy, financial literacy, and more.
Researches and assists participants in acquiring related supportive services such as computer literacy, transportation, public assistance and child care.
Facilitates and/or coordinates various workshops/information sessions.
Attend community partner meetings and attend bi-monthly case management team meetings.
Maintains case notes by documenting client’s goals, outcomes, and goals using the ASISTS database.
Monitors participant's progress and follows up frequently.
Performs other tasks deemed necessary to assist in achieving service and programmatic goals.

Qualifications

Some college required, Bachelor’s degree preferred in education or a related field; relevant experience in adult education (ABE, ESOL, & HSE)
Strong awareness of the barriers facing adult learners looking to integrate workforce, technology, and academic environment.
Relevant experience in counseling individuals and/or facilitating informational sessions
Must have a good knowledge of the available educational, training, and employment resources.

They will work collaboratively with the WIOA HSE admin team and instructors to ensure participants’ needs are being met. This role will work closely and under the guidance of the Literacy Zone coordinator onsite.

Responsibilities

Conducts a comprehensive and educational/vocational assessment to develop a plan of service to meet participants’ needs (approximately 100 clients per year). Provide intensive one-on-one and/or small group services to participants and their families including counseling and advising participants on their career, academic, and social service needs. The goal is to link them with resources that would move them out of poverty.
Able to plan events and coordinate community events based on the Literacy Zone target (goal is to meet and/or exceed program targets)

Under the direction of the Manager of Volunteer Resources and Coordinator of Immigrant Services, this full-time position is responsible for the coordination of the volunteer-led programs for immigrant inclusion and integration across the Brooklyn Public Library system. The New Americans Project Coordinator recruits, trains and supervises over 60 English Conversation Group Leaders and Citizenship Exam Coaches. The Project Coordinator develops and implements volunteer-led immigrant integration programs such as thematic Conversation Groups and multilingual Welcome Ambassadors.

The Project Coordinator will lead BPL’s New Americans Project which includes citizenship instruction, volunteer led conversation groups, English language learning programs and the New Americans Corners. The project coordinator will schedule, implement and evaluate a series of citizenship instruction classes to prepare adults for the civics (U.S. history and government) and English proficiency (reading, writing, listening and speaking) components of the naturalization test. Primary responsibilities include implementation of citizenship curriculum for both in person and virtual classes. The Coordinator will be responsible for data collection and reporting program outcomes.
Responsibilities

Research local community needs for English language learning and Citizenship by working with branch staff and local community organizations
Coordinates scheduling, promotion and evaluation of English Conversation Groups and Citizenship programs
Promote volunteer opportunities through online tools and outreach
Conduct interviews and trainings for volunteers, coordinate invitations and prepare materials
Administer surveys and evaluations and review responses to enhance programs
Arrange volunteer placements and promote awareness of Conversation Groups and Citizenship Instructional programs in branches

Qualifications
Experience:

3-5 years of experience in adult English language and/or citizenship instruction
