Part -Time ESOL Instructor to start ASAP in the Adult Literacy Program at Brooklyn College. 
  • 2 courses are available, the teacher can take one or both 
    • One day time course for beginners, needs to be 2 days a week from 9am-1pm. You can choose the days (we don’t have class on Friday) 
      • This course is all in person, on Brooklyn College Campus
    • One is a night class for advanced students, this is 6-9pm and is hybrid 
      • one class is online, one is in person
  • The term runs from May 1 – July 14

Spanish Language Program Coordinator F/T

Spanish Language Program Coordinator
Permanent – Mid-town Manhattan Location
Salary Range: $66,200.00 to $82,800.00
 
Healthcare union-based Adult Education program seeks a Coordinator for a well-established Language Program, mainly offering Spanish Language classes . Other language instruction is offered upon request of our stakeholders.
 
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate all aspects of the Spanish/Foreign Language Program – a program for participants learning Spanish to communicate with Latino patients.
  • Provide program administration to team.
  • Develop school calendar and class schedules; coordinate teacher assignments and program activities; coordinate site and security contracts or online Zoom accounts; visit classes regularly; monitor and evaluate teachers and vendors; select instructional materials, participate in curriculum development projects, identify and/or organize staff development sessions.
  • Organize and monitor Assistant Program Specialist’s work: oversee mailings to members, provide customer service, plan case management, monitor program data entry and filing system.
  • Prepare statistical reports and analyses
  • Draft budget, generate check requests, track payment schedule; book orders; track book inventory including e-book licenses
  • Research new publications/articles in the Language Learning field and be informed of books, materials, and resources available for foreign language instruction 
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned by management​
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree / Certificate in Second Language Theory and Practice required. Degree in Education highly preferred 
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in adult education, training or workforce development
  • Bilingual in Spanish language required
  • Basic skill level in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint preferred
  • Experience with healthcare career ladders/education programs (teaching, facilitating, partnering) preferred
  • Must have excellent reading, writing, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends as needed

GED Coordinator
Location:  132 32nd Street Brooklyn, NY 11232
Status/Hours: Full time, Monday - Friday, 10 am - 6 pm
Salary Range: $55,000 - $60,000
The Education Center offers GED preparation classes to participants 17 years and older. Instruction is offered in reading & writing (integrating social studies), math, and science. The GED Coordinator oversees GED preparation programming, teaches GED preparation classes, supervises part-time GED instructional staff, conducts outreach & enrollment, and organizes pre and post testing schedules.

Responsible For: Monthly enrollment targets; Monthly retention targets; Quarterly testing targets; Quarterly measurable skill gain targets; Annual graduation targets
  • Oversight of GED preparation programs
  • Instruction in GED preparation classes
  • Supervision of part-time GED instructors
  • Marketing and outreach (meets rolling enrollment targets through active recruitment)
  • Intake and orientation
  • Pre-testing and post-testing using TABE
  • Retention (tracks student attendance and takes measures to prevent attrition)
  • Optimizes learning outcomes (observes classes, collects student feedback, monitors test scores, and takes steps to improve learning outcomes)
  • Keeps up-to-date student records and maintains student folders
  • Other duties, as assigned
 Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, adult education, or equivalent; Masters degree preferred
  • Language skills in Spanish, Arabic, and/or Chinese are preferred
  • Three or more years teaching experience in an adult education setting
  • Very strong computer skills
  • Strong outreach, marketing, and networking skills
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Strong problem solving skills and the ability to be resourceful
  • Willingness to collaborate with colleagues and work as part of a team

Part-Time Integrated & Education (IELCE) ESOL Teacher – Brooklyn Public Library

The Adult literacy and learning department is seeking integrated education and training IELCE teachers to teach contextualized intermediate/advanced level classes. The IELCE teacher will collaborate with vocational instructors to ensure participants are equipped with skills to pass one of the following certifications: Digital Literacy, food safety and/or medical billing while improving their English speaking skills utilizing work-place and civics content. The goal is for learners to improve their English speaking skills while earning an industry recognized certification to secure a job/career in the workforce.  

Responsibilities 
  • Be part of an academic team responsible for presenting standard American English language to English-language learners
  • Engage students in a learning community and facilitate contextualized lessons based on the focus areas: food safety, digital literacy, and/or medical billing/assisting 
  • Maintain, prepare, and upload Google Classroom assignments and weekly post for learners
  • Prepare course overview and lesson plans that use library resources using a civics-based instructional approach and the vocational curricula that is motivating and engaging with a focus on learning and progress
  • Knowledgeable of the CAL Best Plus and Best Literacy tests for IELCE learners of the Brooklyn Public Library and conference with learners as needed
  • Complete administrative duties in a timely manner
  • Participate in library and industry professional development and training; set individual learning and development goals and actively seek opportunities to further develop teaching practice
  • Work independently and collaboratively with an instructional (case manager, student advisor, and program assistant) team members to ensure learners are being met

Qualifications 
  • BA/BS required. MA or certificate in TESOL a plus
  • Co-teaching experience and vocational teaching experience in culinary, digital literacy, and/or health industries
  • Online teaching experience using Google Classroom and Zoom
  • Able to collaborate with instructional team to ensure learners needs are being met and help alleviate any barriers to learning
  • Strong Proficiency in the use of office equipment including computers, data projector, smart boards, smart TVs, printers and copiers.
  • Ability to populate and manipulate software supporting word processing, spreadsheet, database management, network management, desktop publishing, and Internet navigation applications
  • Ability to perform general clerical functions including maintaining accurate records and compiling information and statistics
  • Excellent organizational and customer service skills
  • Creative and ability to solve problems with a strong commitment to adult literacy and learning
  • Must be able to work varied schedule, including evenings and weekends 

Please note that this is a part-time position, up to 12 hours a week. Pay rate is $40 per hour.

Educational Specialist (Bilingual) F/T

Star Learning Center, a program of GRCC, is a year-round tutoring program for underserved students from across NYC. The program provides one-to-one academic support and educational advocacy to students in grades 2 through 12. Each student at Star is matched with a volunteer tutor. Tutors receive an orientation to the Center and their individual students and staff provide ongoing coaching and support. Star also connects students with other GRCC programs and outside resources to enable them to reach their full potential.
 
Star Learning Center seeks a committed, compassionate, and highly organized individual to join a close-knit and diverse community of staff, students, volunteer tutors and parents. The candidate should enjoy working closely with others and also work well independently. Schedule: Monday 11:00 am to 7:00 pm, Tuesday and Wednesday 10:30 am to 6:30 pm, Thursday and Friday 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
 
Salary Range: $37,881 - $47,351
 
Goddard Riverside and Isaacs Center follow the CDC and NYS recommendations to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and are now requiring all new hires to be vaccinated against COVID-19 unless they have a qualified exemption.

Roles, Responsibilities and Essential Duties
  • Supervise and support 200+ tutors and students every week
  • Evaluate academic needs of all students; administer testing for new students and write testing reports; create tutoring plans with annual goals using testing results, student report card data, IEPs, and teacher comments
  • Prepare and deliver tutor orientations, provide ongoing supervision of tutoring plans and continual training to volunteer tutors
  • Support all student-tutor pairs with modeling and materials; review and comment on every session plan prepared by tutors; offer trainings
  • Organize and maintain STAR’s library, including researching new book titles and tutoring materials, sorting donations, and working closely with library clerk
  • Research online tutoring materials for 2nd –12th grades
  • Tracking report card and other data to identify need for additional support
  • Occasionally tutor students
  • Communicate with parents regarding special education needs and goals, review IEPs with parents, and refer to special education advocates
  • Encourage and promote reading for pleasure by recommending books based on student interest and reading level
  • Assist in data collection for Star program evaluations
 
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred in Education or related field
  • Teaching/tutoring experience with children and teens
  • Knowledge of an Orton-Gillingham based, multi-sensory approach to teaching reading
  • Must be fluent in written and spoken Spanish
 
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, families and tutors
  • Experience with literacy assessments, teaching strategies, and student data analysis
  • Knowledge of NYC 2-12 curriculum
  • Working knowledge of the New York City Special Education process including services obtained through IEPs
  • Knowledge of early literacy practices and children’s literature
 
Computer Skills Needed
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications
 
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift boxes
 
Work Environment
  • Office and tutoring center/ work from home hybrid model (through June 2023)
