Program Coordinator F/T

RBSCC is seeking a F/T Program Coordinator. 
Salary: low 30K 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Recruit and register all participants.
  • Conduct community outreach.
  • Conduct orientation for all participants. 
  • Provide referrals and follow-up as necessary.
  • Closely monitor student retention; develop and implement alternative ways of keeping participants engaged in all program activities.
  • Ensure participants receive quarterly assessment and document progress.
  • Maintain all attendance sheets, registration forms and participant’s program files.
  • Maintain a database that includes all necessary information on participants.
  • Attend DYCD meetings and trainings/workshops according to program mandates.
  • Ensure all milestones and outcomes are met.
  • Work schedule includes alternate Saturdays.

Qualifications: Must possess a High School Diploma, Bachelor degree preferred; 2 years experience working with Adult Programs required; bilingual

HSE Instructors F/T

The Pre-College Academic Programming Department is seeking a full-time instructor to deliver comprehensive career focused high school equivalency instruction for the Bridge to College and Careers Program.

The instructor collaborates with the program manager, co-instructors and advisors to deliver instruction and student services in a team-based model service model.  The instructor develops and pilots contextualized curricula, maintains an online course portal, supports students with individual and small group tutoring and via out of class communication,  implements formative and summative student assessment. The instructor also participates in regular staff development, program and case management meetings and is an active participant in delivering comprehensive student support services for current students and alumni of the Bridge Program.

OBT is seeking a part-time Intermediate computer skills instructor for adult learners 5:30-8:30 Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, at OBT's Bushwick location in Brooklyn. 
Computer instructor should be committed to social justice and have experience working with immigrant populations. Also- preferred bi-lingual in English and Spanish .  Instructor will provide daily instruction in the Microsoft Office Suite and Windows Operating Systems environment and teach basic computer applications and keyboarding. Curriculum training is geared toward passing the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification.  Additionally, instructor will do class planning, materials creation and attend staff meetings and professional development. Candidate must be creative, organized, and committed to learner-centered, participatory education.
Required: BA and experience teaching to adults or at-risk youth.  


Class Schedule:  5:30pm-8:30pm, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday at 25 Thornton St. Brooklyn, NY 11206. Upcoming class cycle will begin January 13th and end on April 2nd.

Literacy Zone Program Support Specialist P/T

Literacy Zone Program Support Specialist (Part time Temporary Position)
The BMCC Lower East Side Literacy Zone seeks a Support Specialist to assist with social service referrals for adult ESL and HSE students served at several locations in Lower Manhattan. The Support Specialist will devote a significant amount of time to data entry to record student referrals, goals and outcomes. Some evening hours are required.


The Support Specialist also will assist with intake and assessment of incoming students for the HSE and ESL Programs; referrals for social services; and large and small group workshops on topics including college knowledge, parent advocacy, and career pathways.


This position is funded for 18 hours a week at $20 an hour through June 30, 2015 with the possibility of extended employment.
Position requires a BA, and a strong interest in working with the Adult Basic Education community.

HSE and ABE  Instructors P/T

LaGuardia Community College's Adult Basic Skills (ABS) department in the Adult and Continuing Education Division is seeking part-time adult education instructors for its Winter high school equivalency (HSE) and adult basic education (ABE)  programs. 

The ABS department is seeking dynamic, hard working educators with experience teaching diverse adult, non-traditional populations at a variety of ABE and HSE levels, including preparation for the Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC). The instructor will adapt student-centered and contextualized curricula designed to help adult students develop their reading, writing, math, and critical thinking skills. Course work will include the incorporation of technology, materials for differentiating instruction, and informal needs assessments, as needed. 

Part-time evening and/or day positions available starting January 2015, averaging 9 hours per week.

Minimum Requirements: 
Bachelor of Arts/Science degree, plus at least three (3) years adult education or non-traditional teaching experience, along with relevant adult education professional development required. 
Experience in delivering quality mathematics instruction, as well as reading/writing in HSE-related disciplines (social studies, science, etc.) is also required.

Candidates must be able to implement engaging, level-appropriate, student-centered QBPL ESOL/Civics curricula, supporting the aims of the program.  Must demonstrate knowledge of teaching in context of themes, using project-based activities.  Commitment to learner-centered, participatory education.  Implement intake and assessment procedures.  Prepare session plans and end-of-semester reports. Attend preparatory program meetings, conferences, & special events.  Participate in on-going staff development activities.  Must have experience teaching all levels of English to adults in a classroom setting.  


Minimum of one year of successful teaching experience is preferred.  Advanced degree in TESOL or related field, or TESOL Certification required. BEST Plus Test Administrator Certification preferred.
