Hybrid On-Line & In-Person Tutor - Includes Benefits & Bonus Opportunities
(New York City)

Revolution Prep Tutors work primarily from home with the ability to earn competitive pay, benefits (including health insurance, life insurance, and 401K), and quarterly bonuses. We are looking for tutors who have a love for learning and an engaging personality and who are comfortable meeting with and making recommendations to families regarding the ongoing needs of their student.

In addition to online tutoring, this position involves teaching in-person SAT prep courses through the Columbia S-Prep program. Classes will be held at the Columbia University Medical Center (104 Haven Avenue, New York, NY) Saturdays, 12/3/22 to 5/6/23, from 1-3:00 p.m. and Saturdays, 1/28/23 to 5/6/ 23 from 9-11:00 a.m. Revolution Prep will provide paid training and supply all materials for the courses.

About the Role
The Hybrid Tutor role is made up of the following responsibilities for the approximate percent of a tutor’s work schedule:
  • Tutor students in a variety of academic and test prep subjects on-line and in-person (80%)
  • Communicate with families regarding student progress including making recommendations for student success (10%)
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and subject expansion (5%)
  • Prepare for sessions using Revolution Prep provided materials (5%)
Professional Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree welcomed
  • Experience teaching or tutoring and familiarity with classroom management desired but not required
  • Ability to comfortably teach all sections of the SAT and ACT test including math concepts through Algebra 2
  • Ability to commute to Columbia University for in-person classes on Saturdays as needed (commute time will be paid)
  • Authorized to work in the United States (current residence must be within 25 miles of Columbia University)
Schedule Requirements
Tutors choose a delivery target between 16 and 40 hours per week and post recommended availability during prime time (see below) in order to reach their target. Actual hours worked are highly dependent on tutor's proactivity with families, individual subject coverage, quality of instruction, and tutor-selected availability. Hours also fluctuate based on sales volume and seasonality.
School-Year Prime-Time Hours (mid-August through mid-June):
  • Sundays: 5 AM-7 PM PST
  • Mondays-Thursdays: 12 PM-8 PM PST
  • Fridays: 12 PM-4 PM PST
  • Saturdays: 5 AM-4 PM PST
Summer Prime-Time Hours (mid-June through mid-August):
  • Sundays: 5 AM-7 PM PDT
  • Mondays-Thursdays: 6 AM-8 PM PDT
  • Fridays: 5 AM-4 PM PDT
  • Saturdays: 5 AM-7 PM PDT
Technology
Revolution Prep will provide a webcam, headset, lighting, and an annotation tablet to support you in providing our standard of quality for online instruction.
To be successful in the Professional Tutor role, you will need the following:
  • A reliable Mac/PC desktop or laptop with 4GB or more of available memory/RAM
  • High-speed internet with the ability to connect via ethernet cable and a clean, quiet, professional setting for online sessions.
Compensation
Job Type: Part or Full-Time
Pay: $25.00 to $30.00 per hour (If you can tutor AP Physics, AP Computer Science, AP Statistics, AP Calculus, or AP Chemistry, you may be eligible for a higher starting rate.)

The CUNY Language Immersion Program (CLIP) at Bronx Community College provides intensive English language instruction to adult immigrants who plan to matriculate in a CUNY college. We are looking for an evening tutor who will work under the direction of classroom teachers to assist students in all four language domains. Responsibilities may include:
  • helping students, one-on-one, to revise their essays for grammar, mechanics, and content
  • working with students individually and in groups on reading skills
  • honing oral presentation and pronunciation skills
  • assisting students with annotation during read-alouds and taking notes during lectures
  • assisting students with PowerPoint presentations
 
Tutors may also be asked to facilitate whole-class instruction and group work, as well as grade student assessments. Applicants must be flexible enough to work with faculty members with a variety of teaching styles.  Prior experience working with ESL students and some graduate coursework in TESOL/Applied Linguistics preferred.
 
Hours: 
Evening Position:     5:15 PM to 9:45 PM    Three evenings per week. The days are flexible.

Academic Writing Tutor P/T

Position:  Academic Writing Tutor for the Borough of Manhattan Community College CLIP (CUNY Language Immersion Program). Fall 2018 semester.
CLIP is an intensive ESL program for adult immigrants already accepted to a CUNY college but who need to improve academic English skills to prepare for credit-bearing courses.

Duties: Under the direction of class teachers, work with individuals or small group tutorials assisting students with writing assignments, mostly in the computer lab. Focus on essay content, organization and grammar. Help students with research projects and presentations. 20 hours a week maximum.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree. Good knowledge of grammar instruction, essay structure and writing strategies. Experience with ESL adult students of diverse backgrounds.

Able to work during our morning program, 9am to 2:30pm.

The Pre-College Academic Programming Department (www.laguardia.edu/pcap) is seeking a part-time Math specialist to provide comprehensive math tutoring services. PCAP’s mission is to support low income adults and out-of-school youth as they apply to college, matriculate, and persist through their first year at LaGuardia Community College.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree Required. Master’s degree in mathematics, secondary mathematics, education, adult education or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years teaching experience in adult education, secondary or postsecondary education classrooms
  • Familiarity with the CAT Math Exam
  • Strong conceptual understanding across mathematics, including, but not limited to: mathematical thinking, arithmetic, college algebra, geometry and statistics
  • Demonstrated understanding and use of inquiry-based and constructivist pedagogies
  • Demonstrated use of interdisciplinary approach to math instruction, including problem centering, contextualizing and other strategies
  • A minimum of two years’ experience and demonstrated skill in improving students’ mathematic skills and reasoning
