The Program Associate is a grant-funded position within Brooklyn Public Library’s Literacy Program department. The Program Associate will work under the supervision of the Young Adult Literacy Program Coordinator and perform general administrative support for the Young Adult Literacy Program (YALP). Administrative tasks and day-to-day activities include: data collection; data entry, creating and maintaining electronic tracking systems; filing; ordering program materials; programmatic support and other general clerical duties as needed. The program seeks someone with a dynamic personality, with extraordinary people skills and a creative eye; as the position will require overseeing YALP’s social media and web page presence, participating in outreach events and partnering with YALP Coordinator to shore up professional community partnerships.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the preparation of reports
- Data entry in Microsoft Excel and DYCD managed databases
- General organization and inventory maintenance of program supplies and materials in two sites
- Receive telephone calls, answer questions from outside patrons, and transfer calls as needed
- Work collaboratively with BPL’s Marketing Department to maintain current and engaging content on YALP’s BPL webpage and social media
- Frequent interaction with program staff, students and the public
- Performs related duties as required
- Bachelors degree preferred, 2 years of satisfactory full time clerical experience (Associate degree or 60 credits may substitute for one year experience)
- Knowledge of computer software with proficient use of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher, and Access) & Outlook
- Attention to detail and the ability to organize and execute multiple tasks in a deadline-oriented environment
- Superior customer service skills, interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
- Experience working in a team environment
- Excellent organizational and problem solving skills
