Education Manager and Lead Coach F/T

The Education Manager and Lead Coach will partner with the Director of Youth and Education, Deputy Directors, site directors and frontline staff to improve the quality and consistency of academic enrichment for grades K-8 during St. Nick’s afterschool programs.  The Education Manager and Lead Coach will be instrumental in conceptualizing, implementing and evaluating SNA’s division-wide, literacy immersion and STEM initiatives. SNA’s literacy immersion initiative aims to integrate schools, family and community in an effort to increase the number of children who read at or above grade level.  STEM initiatives use hands-on science activities to further foster literacy and critical thinking. As such, the Education Manager and Lead Coach is a key player in helping to strengthen the academic learning and overall afterschool model at St. Nicks Alliance.  

In support of literacy and STEM learning, the Manager will play a leadership role in: 
  • Pedagogy (theme/unit design, curriculum development, lesson planning selection and development
  • Design and implementation of related professional development and coaching services at targeted schools
  • Partnership development
  • Evaluation and assessment
  • Literacy immersion program development. 
As academic enrichment expands, the Manager will oversee academic enrichment staff, as assigned by the Division Director.

Key responsibilities include:  
Teaching and Learning
Pedagogy 
  • Research, review and adapt pre-developed curricula and best practices in literacy and STEM for quality and fit with afterschool program goals
  • Use a collaborative framework with site directors and youth workers to develop theme-based units and literacy/STEM curricula with an emphasis on project-based learning.
  • Co-create lessons and activities alongside site directors and youth workers for 13 locations. 
  • Work with schools to integrate or align schoolday and afterschool curricula
  • Identify best teaching and learning practices in afterschool hours, with a focus on literacy and STEM
  • Develop strategies for improving performance, including tools, policies, and practices
  • Research, develop and support implementation of educational resources 
  • Contribute to the collection and review of outcomes data
  • Collaborate with program leadership to continuously strengthen academics, based on staff feedback, outcomes data, best practice, and ongoing reflection.
Professional Development
  • Assist Division Director in planning and implementing professional development in literacy and STEM for site directors and youth workers 
  • Lead group trainings and workshops for site directors and youth workers  
  • Serve as a lead coach in order to help site directors and frontline staff to build upon their existing knowledge and skills as academic mentors, and to grow in their abilities
  • Employ highly effective coaching techniques to help staff achieve their potential, such as building confidentiality and trust, guiding conversations through open-ended questions (v. directives), meeting employees where they are employing effective listening and reflection, establishing action and outcomes.  
  • Collaborate with deputies and site directors to strengthen planning and facilitation skills at the sites. 
  • Employ effective observation and feedback protocols that support staff growth 
Partnership Development
  • Research, develop and support strategic partnerships to build our capacity to deliver high quality and diverse literacy/STEM experiences for our youth

Literacy Immersion Program Development
The Education Manager and Lead Coach will work closely with the division director to establish SNA’s literacy immersion model to help all students, particularly struggling readers, to meet or exceed grade level.  The Manager will work closely with program leadership to ensure cohesion in program planning across the division and leverage collective thinking. 
BK Story Voyager
  • Develop and oversee programming for BK Story Voyager in partnership with and Division Director
  • Develop job descriptions and oversee bookmobile staff
  • Oversee books, supplies, equipment, technology, website of bookmobile
Family Literacy
  • Design program and plan workshops for all designated program sites.  
  • Collect and aggregate feedback from participants (caregivers and children). Survey participants and create goals to improve quality and participants
Mentorship and Academic Interventions
  • Design and oversee mentorship and academic interventions in literacy
  • Develop partnerships with colleges, high schools and volunteer organizations to provide 1:1 mentorship 
Other duties as assigned by Director of Youth and Education 

​Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 
  • Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in Education, Master’s degree strongly preferred
  • Min of 5 years teaching experience, either in schoolday or afterschool settings
  • Solid understanding of language and literacy development
  • Demonstrated ability to develop engaging, hands-on curriculum and lesson plans
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively coach young adults and model lessons
  • Demonstrated ability to design literacy programs
  • Strong leader, creative and highly personable
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; bilingual a plus. 
  • Computer literate, Microsoft Suite and Google Suite. 
  • Excellent organizational skills.

The Pre-College Academic Programming Department (www.laguardia.edu/pcap) is seeking a full-time Program Manager to successfully implement all aspects of the Bridge to College and Careers Project at LaGuardia Community College. The Bridge Program serves between 250-300 low-income adults and out-of-school youth each year.  Students study to earn a high school equivalency diploma and create a plan to successfully transition to postsecondary training and college degree programs.
 
The Manager will oversee the implementation and day-to-day operations of the highly successful, evidence-based Bridge Program to ensure that the program is operating as intended and that program goals are being met.
 
We are seeking a creative education professional who has a minimum of 3 years of experience working in education and training, including at least 2 years of supervisory/managerial experience and at least 1 year of instructional experience. Hub Manager NYPL F/T

Hub Manager
The Adult Learning Centers (ALCs) are the direct service providers of ESOL and adult literacy instruction for the New York Public Library.  ALCs use professional teachers to offer free instruction to adult patrons in reading, writing, speaking and listening from a 0 to 8th grade level. Through formal classes in language and literacy, as well as elective offerings such as English conversation and citizenship preparation groups, ALCs have taken on the charge to expand ESOL instruction in the Library.

Principal Responsibilities:
The Hub Manager is responsible to orchestrate and supervise all adult learning center educational activities within the designated hub area (ESOL and Literacy for East Harlem and East Bronx). This includes current formal classes and the development of new informal classes, workshops, and volunteer led conversation sessions. Queens Library Literacy Center Manager

The Adult Learner Program Center Manager is responsible for managing an Adult Learning Center and is responsible for the overall supervision and operations of the center.  

  • Manage and coordinate all aspects of adult learning the Long Island City center (i.e,: literacy and ESOL classes, workshops, external referrals, resources and other services).  
  • Provide program management assistance. 
  • Work collaboratively within the broader Library Services Department team members to ensure continuum of service for all ages including Family Literacy. 
  • Develop and maintain literacy collections.  
  • Supervise tutoring. 
  • Test and evaluate students. 
  • Provide follow-up and support to students and tutor.  
  • Implement literacy recruitment. 
  • Ensure center programming quality based on enrollment/retention via coordinating internal and external audits and conducts community outreach, community needs assessments as well as address and resolve all issues to ensure overall positive participant satisfaction.  
  • Contribute to strategic goals for enhancing and expanding adult learning services. 
  • Manage the collection and distribution of center operations statistical data for reporting purposes, including adherence to program standards and government contract reporting. This consists of proper and timely processing of all documents and other required paperwork, often conducting program evaluations for improvement. 
  • Responsible for preparing and overseeing reporting on programs as needed and required. 
  • Use latest technology to develop and deliver high-quality, effective learning programs and services.  
  • Coordinate all volunteer and intern pre-placement training, proper orientation, feedback/evaluation and recognition. 
  • Makes presentations, prepares statistics and reports, and performs other duties as required.
Requirements: 
  • Bachelor in Education or related field required
  • Master’s in TESOL or related field preferred.  
  • Minimum of two years full time professional experience in Adult Education.  
  • Knowledge of computer assisted instruction preferred. 
  • Previous experience administering adult education programs. 
  • Previous supervisory experience required. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. 
  • Understanding of and experience in preparing financial/budget reports. 
  • Must have Intermediate knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel; experience with other MS Office applications preferred.

Adult Literacy Center Hub Manager F/T

Position:  Adult Literacy Center Hub Manager
Responsibilities:
  • Reporting to the Associate Director of Adult Literacy and English Language Education:
  • Provides leadership at a hub, supervision, and professional development needed to ensure existing and new staff have the skills to deliver instruction according to the curriculum.
  • Responsible for the data and reporting necessary to assure program goals are carried out.
  • Implements new program initiatives, with a special focus on staff development appropriate for improving English language and literacy proficiency and basic numeracy instruction
  • Maintains connections with network managers and library managers and staff within a specified hub.
  • Contributes to the development of a curriculum scope and sequence, and a training and support plan necessary to insure its implementation
  • Investigates and implement new uses for instructional technology and distance learning including Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL)
  • Schedules classes, teacher schedules, and tutoring session times
  • Works directly with NYPL staff, volunteer tutors, and students, promoting and modeling effective instructional strategies, methods, and materials use, in a collaborative learning environment
  • Supervises and evaluates staff and part time instructors
  • Provides site coverage as necessary
  • Develops an appropriate instructional collection (both print and software) and serves as an instructional resource person for the Library staff
  • Contributes to the development of program reports and data collection and management
  • Must be available to work at all NYPL literacy sites
  • Performs related duties as required

Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in TESOL, Adult Literacy, Linguistics, English, or other Education related focus
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research-based English Language and literacy instruction for adults in the early stages of language acquisition and literacy development
  • Experience leading staff development related to teaching and learning strategies that integrate computer-assisted instruction and multimedia into the curriculum
  • Demonstrated experience providing team leadership and supervision
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal standards for student achievement (NRS) and the standardized testing (Best Plus and TABE) necessary to document student gains
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Experience in teaching basic math and knowledge of systematic intensive alphabetics instruction preferred
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing databases to track student information and progress
  • Hub locations are St. George, Seward Park, St. Agnes, Bronx Library Center and Wakefield
  • Successfully demonstrated computer and related technology skills, including Microsoft Office suite

Starting Salary: USD $62,529.00/Yr.
