Part time ESL Instructor - Remote 
 
Start date: January 30, 2023

Job title:  Part time ESL Instructor 
Site: Online using Zoom 
Day(s) of week: 1 day a week on Wednesday or Thursday; Class runs January 30 – May 12       
Time: 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. or 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. 
Hours per week: 3 - 4 hours/12 weeks  
Type of class/Program:  ESL beginner (NRS levels 1 or 2) 
Pay: $64 per hour (including 4-6 hours of meeting time during year and any time dedicated to professional development) 
 
Requirements: College degree or training in education and ESL experience is highly preferred. Knowledge of ESL instruction for adult learners; adult basic education and experience teaching diverse, adult learners. Ability to be flexible and adapt curriculum to students. Must be able to integrate digital literacy, civic education and workforce readiness in classroom instruction. Must have excellent communication skills and diverse teaching techniques.  Knowledge of the health care industry and experience with 1199SEIU union members a plus but not required. Online teaching is a plus.  
 
Responsibilities: 
  • Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment. 
  • Prepare semester course outline for assigned class. 
  • Prepare lessons identifying clear teaching objectives and learning outcomes. 
  • Assess students’ needs and progress. 
  • Attend teacher meetings with program administrators and other teachers. 
  • Attend and contribute to staff development sessions as needed. 
  • Ensure accuracy and timely submission of attendance sheets. 
  • Ensure accuracy and timely submission of timesheets. 
  • Provide basic information to students on our organization’s course offerings. 
  • Collaborate with program manager as needed to manage student cases and progress.  
  • Provide feedback on the program to administrators.

Hybrid On-Line & In-Person Tutor - Includes Benefits & Bonus Opportunities
(New York City)

Revolution Prep Tutors work primarily from home with the ability to earn competitive pay, benefits (including health insurance, life insurance, and 401K), and quarterly bonuses. We are looking for tutors who have a love for learning and an engaging personality and who are comfortable meeting with and making recommendations to families regarding the ongoing needs of their student.

In addition to online tutoring, this position involves teaching in-person SAT prep courses through the Columbia S-Prep program. Classes will be held at the Columbia University Medical Center (104 Haven Avenue, New York, NY) Saturdays, 12/3/22 to 5/6/23, from 1-3:00 p.m. and Saturdays, 1/28/23 to 5/6/ 23 from 9-11:00 a.m. Revolution Prep will provide paid training and supply all materials for the courses.

About the Role
The Hybrid Tutor role is made up of the following responsibilities for the approximate percent of a tutor’s work schedule:
  • Tutor students in a variety of academic and test prep subjects on-line and in-person (80%)
  • Communicate with families regarding student progress including making recommendations for student success (10%)
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and subject expansion (5%)
  • Prepare for sessions using Revolution Prep provided materials (5%)
Professional Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree welcomed
  • Experience teaching or tutoring and familiarity with classroom management desired but not required
  • Ability to comfortably teach all sections of the SAT and ACT test including math concepts through Algebra 2
  • Ability to commute to Columbia University for in-person classes on Saturdays as needed (commute time will be paid)
  • Authorized to work in the United States (current residence must be within 25 miles of Columbia University)
Schedule Requirements
Tutors choose a delivery target between 16 and 40 hours per week and post recommended availability during prime time (see below) in order to reach their target. Actual hours worked are highly dependent on tutor's proactivity with families, individual subject coverage, quality of instruction, and tutor-selected availability. Hours also fluctuate based on sales volume and seasonality.
School-Year Prime-Time Hours (mid-August through mid-June):
  • Sundays: 5 AM-7 PM PST
  • Mondays-Thursdays: 12 PM-8 PM PST
  • Fridays: 12 PM-4 PM PST
  • Saturdays: 5 AM-4 PM PST
Summer Prime-Time Hours (mid-June through mid-August):
  • Sundays: 5 AM-7 PM PDT
  • Mondays-Thursdays: 6 AM-8 PM PDT
  • Fridays: 5 AM-4 PM PDT
  • Saturdays: 5 AM-7 PM PDT
Technology
Revolution Prep will provide a webcam, headset, lighting, and an annotation tablet to support you in providing our standard of quality for online instruction.
To be successful in the Professional Tutor role, you will need the following:
  • A reliable Mac/PC desktop or laptop with 4GB or more of available memory/RAM
  • High-speed internet with the ability to connect via ethernet cable and a clean, quiet, professional setting for online sessions.
Compensation
Job Type: Part or Full-Time
Pay: $25.00 to $30.00 per hour (If you can tutor AP Physics, AP Computer Science, AP Statistics, AP Calculus, or AP Chemistry, you may be eligible for a higher starting rate.)

Adult Education Counselor (P/T)
Inwood Community Services, Inc. seeks an Adult Education Counselor to support ESOL and EL/Civics students. The schedule is 12 hours/week, Monday-Thursday, 6PM-9PM, with some flexibility. Services occur remotely but may in the future revert to in-person, depending on health and safety conditions and prioritizing staff and student safety.
We seek:
  • Dedicated educators with good interpersonal skills committed to empowering adult immigrant students
  • Spanish/English bilingual applicants with 3-plus years’ experience in adult education or literacy
  • Applicants able to form referral networks with education, training, employment, and social services
Responsibilities:
  • Assess and develop Individual Service Plans for incoming students
  • Follow up to evaluate student placement, progress and attendance in class
  • Assist students in overcoming barriers to attendance or retention
  • Assist students with education, training, job and personal goals; develop and maintain networks appropriate for referrals for services needed
  • Maintain records of all counseling interactions
  • Assist in the smooth delivery of classes. Counselors may deliver workshops on appropriate topics, support teachers with issues relating to class management, follow up with students on issues related to learning, behavior, attendance, retention or other area of concern.
  • Participate in registration, orientation, pre- and post-testing
Requirements:
  • The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree plus three years’ experience in adult literacy
  • Fluency in Spanish and English
  • Familiarity with the local area of Inwood and surroundings is a plus
  • Certification in Best Plus Administration or willing to become certified
  • COVID vaccination is required with very rare exceptions based on religious or medical exemption
 
Compensation: based on experience.
ICS is a community-based not-for-profit in Northern Manhattan with a 32-year Adult Literacy program and a long-tenured staff.  We seek staff from the local area as well as those outside the neighborhood committed to the field of adult literacy.
