Career Prep Manager
Reports to: Associate Executive Director
Status: Full Time
Location:  South Bronx: 378 East 151st St. 
Days/Hours:  Monday to Friday, varied      

Grace Outreach seeks a skilled, passionate professional to play an integral role in the delivery of services in the Career Prep program area of the organization. This position requires the ability to deliver career-based content to students in a classroom setting, knowledge of the NYC workforce development landscape, ability to advise students 1-on-1 regarding career options and possibilities, flexibility, the ability to communicate positively in multiple directions, and an openness to continual learning. The Career Prep Manager will also be focused outside the organization, in order to maintain and develop relation-ships with quality vocational training programs, employers, and colleagues in the field doing similar work.
 
Manage Career Prep program activities:
  • Manage and coordinate day-to-day Career Prep activities serving 70-100 current students, and 600+ alumnae
  • Teach weekly Career Prep class to current HSE students; 
  • Meet and work 1-on-1 with individual students, both current and alumni, on career-related activities, including resume review and interview prep
  • Capture, manage, and review data utilizing Sales Force CRM platform and interactive database
  • Maintain accurate metrics for program performance and prepare analysis for internal and external use
  • Develop technology-centered training for HSE students

Maintain and Develop Relationships with vocational training partners and employers:
  • Connect students to employment and vocational training opportunities in the Bronx and NYC
  • Strengthen and build relations with quality vocational training programs and community-based organizations
  • Attend meetings with partner organizations and coalitions in the workforce development field around NYC

Coordinate and Carry Out Career Development Events:
  • Put together larger program events such as Job Fairs and Mock Interview sessions
  • Put together and lead field trips for students to employment-related programs and events

Participate as member of larger Grace Outreach staff team:
  • Work collaboratively with 12+ colleagues in helping to carry out overall Grace Outreach mission
  • Complete a high volume of varied responsibilities and thrive in a fast-paced setting

Minimum Qualifications:  B.A. degree, with experience in workforce development/non-profit/education field. 
Ability to skillfully utilize Microsoft Office Suite software, SalesForce or similar CRM/database software. Ability to contribute to organization’s well-established positive culture, and ethical values and practices.

GRACE OUTREACH
Grace Outreach is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and can be characterized as a "second chance charter school" for women. Part-time ABS Literacy Instructor at LaGuardia Community College
 
The Adult Basic Skills department is seeking a dynamic, hard working educator who has significant experience teaching diverse adult, non-traditional high school equivalency populations at a variety of ABE levels, including HSE. Knowledge of the New York State –approved Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC) with specific experience teaching literacy and writing in HSE-related disciplines (social studies, science, etc) is required.
 
Candidates must have demonstrated experience with developing theme-based and interdisciplinary adult education curricula, designing student-centered classroom environments, and utilizing a variety of assessment methods. 
 
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor of Arts/Science degree, plus at least three (3) years adult education and/or non-traditional teaching experience, along with relevant adult education professional development required.

ESOL Evening Instructor P/T

Turning Point is hiring a part-time ESOL teacher. The class that meets 3 evenings per week (6pm-8pm), for a total of 10 work hours per week (class + flexible prep time). Staff are expected to be on-site between at least 5:30pm and 8:15pm, to conference with colleagues and students. Expected start date is early September.

The class may be located at either our Education Center or at a local elementary school; flexibility, aptitude for working with multiple partners, and excellent communication skills are required. Will require passing DOE fingerprinting background check.

Teachers are responsible for a class of 15-20 students and must be comfortable with learner-centered, participatory lessons and a project-based approach. While the Education Center has an overall set of class standards, teachers are responsible for creating her/his own curriculum and lesson plans. Teachers work closely with counselors and administrative staff to provide 360 degree service to students. Part-time are encouraged and paid to attend staff meetings and trainings as needed.

Turning Point's Education Center is a community-based program in Sunset Park (Brooklyn) offering free ESOL, ABE, and HSE classes, as well as support services. Our qualified staff is committed to creating a holistic learning community where students develop the skills to reach their goals. Peer support, student-centered learning, and critical thinking are central to the program. All classes are college-bound and career-bound.

Essential Job Functions
  • Provide quality instruction in a learner-centered classroom
  • Develop meaningful curricula and stimulating lesson plans based on student needs, including citizenship preparation, job readiness, and civic engagement skills
  • Guide students in setting goals and developing realistic effective plans for achieving them
  • Monitor student progress and conduct end-of-term conferences to assess and share progress with students
  • Conduct post-assessments through Best Plus and Best Literacy, and other necessary assessments
  • Maintain roll books and regular attendance records of students, in addition to other class-related administrative tasks when necessary
  • Maintain up-to-date certification in Best Plus testing
  • Foster student leadership in the classroom
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and staff development sessions.
Other Responsibilities
The following duties are to be performed as assigned by the supervisor:
  • Keep abreast of trends and developments in the fields relevant to the work of the Educational Center, represent its work at professional networks and meetings, and advance the work and reputation of the Educational Center in the professional community, and city/state/nation-wide arenas.
  • Integrate Educational Center's mission statement into curriculum and classroom
  • Coordinate special events in the classroom to connect the students with the community at large
  • Attend professional development workshops and trainings.
  • Coordinate with other parts of the Turning Point agency
  • Expose students to meaningful out-of-classroom experiences ("learning on foot")

Education and Certification
Candidate must have Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years experience. Masters Degree and 4+ years experience a plus.

JOB DESCRIPTION
 
General Overview
East Side House (ESH) is a community-based organization in the South Bronx. ESH collaborates with schools, community centers and other partners to provide quality education and resources to residents of the South Bronx and surrounding communities.  
​
Youth & Adult Education Services (YAES) focuses on education and career development for youth in Mott Haven and surrounding communities who have dropped out of school and/or possess minimal employment skills. YAES offers participants Pre-High School Equivalency (Pre-HSE) and High School Equivalency (HSE) test preparation, college readiness and placement, work readiness and placement. 

Instructors are key members of the YAES staff inter-disciplinary team whose purpose is to provide comprehensive educational and social supports that enable students to meet their learning, educational and employment goals. Instructors play a key role in developing and implementing curriculum to ensure YAES students are fully prepared for the TASC test and develop a career pathway prior to entry into college and/or vocational training.   
 
Duties include, but are not limited to the following key activities:
Under the immediate supervision of the YAES Director, the HSE Instructors are expected to work with two separate population of students (Pre-HSE and HSE) to improve their academic performance to the point where they are eligible to take, and pass the TASC test. Instructors are also responsible for ensuring students have a clear understanding of their next educational/career options and/or goals. HSE Instructors are expected to perform each essential duty of this position in a satisfactory manner. Key employee responsibilities include but are not restricted to those listed below

Class curriculum incorporating students’ relevant interest and learning needs 
  • Present comprehensive lessons in Literacy, or Mathematics, or Science; conduct in-class student conferencing to provide student feedback and support especially in independent reading
  • Create relevant homework assignments; provide written and oral feedback to students on completed work
  • Devise individualized instructional plans for students
Contextualized Learning in and outside of the classroom focusing on student employment, finance, health, family and future education interests
  • Engage in all activities aimed at enhancing student experience and education
  • Participate in civic and community building efforts and activities 
  • Plan two educational trips per year (based on assigned subject area) that enhance students learning and adds context to education 

Administer TABE, Readiness and Predictor assessments 
  • Meet with students to discuss the results of pre-and post-test scores;  discuss progress with students on a weekly basis or more

Record vital student data i.e. attendance and assignments; monitor files for accuracy
  • Prepare, document and maintain monthly narrative reports, daily lesson plans, student progress reports and evaluations
  • Call absentee students on a daily basis to identify problems and/or re-engage in class
  • Collect student work towards maintaining a portfolio/ assessing students’ ongoing progress

Implement and maintain best practices towards student success
  • Participate in student orientations
  • Represent YAES and ESH with funders and outside agencies in a variety of contexts (e.g. working groups, curriculum development, onsite visits, trainings, etc.) 
  • Participate in and present student education reports at YAES team conferences
  • Other duties as assigned by Director

Professional Development and Team Planning Responsibilities
  • Participate in staff development including peer assessments and observations
  • Present in-services trainings to YAES staff annually (at minimum, one time per year).
  • Participate in weekly and monthly YAES staff meetings
  • Stay up-to-date about state and city Adult Lit/HSE standards
  • Participate in activities to assess program quality and modifying/developing program instruction and service design as needed

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • College Degree (B.A./B.S.) and at least two years of professional experience
  • Proficiency in assigned subject area
  • Two years’ experience working with youth/ young adults (16 -24 y.o.)
  • Display strong understanding of Youth Development Principles and apply principles in all student interactions
  • Knowledge and empathy for young adult population of striving learners

Work Schedule: 
  • Monday – Friday: 8:30 am to 4:30 pm

The Broadway House Women's Shelter located in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn serves 165 women, approximately 37 of whom are MICA.CAMBA's Opportunity House located in downtown Brooklyn serves 62 men.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  
(1) research and develop instructional materials and lesson plans; and, 
(2) instruct adults in academic and/or nonacademic subjects in order to develop and/or enhance their employment skills; including the following:
Conduct classes, workshops and demonstrations, in a group setting or individually, to teach principles, and methods/techniques in various subjects (i.e., basic English language skills, life skills, workforce entry skills, computer skills, etc.).

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Office for New Americans Manager F/T

Office for New Americans ManagerOpportunities for a Better Tomorrow is a not-for-profit organization operating out of multiple locations that provides education, employment and training services to underserved youth and adults. OBT is funded through a mixture of government contracts, corporate and foundation grants and private contributions.
The Office for New Americans is a New York State initiative established by Governor Cuomo in 2012 to assist newcomers in contributing to the state's economic and social fabric. Statewide, there are 26 ONA Opportunity Centers operating out of existing non-profits. Each center assists immigrants using a 4-pronged approach by providing (1) Naturalization and DACA Legal Assistance, (2) ESOL Classes, (3) Entrepreneurship Training, and (4) Community Workshops. OBT's ONA Opportunity Center sees a wide swath of immigrants from primarily Latin American and Caribbean nations.
Start Date for this position is July 1st.
Specific Duties:
  • Manage the ONA Contract and ensure all mandated ONA outcomes for the above four areas are met or exceeded quarterly and annually;
  • Hold client consultations on a regular basis and manage all necessary follow-up work including but not limited to: obtaining immigration records from DHS, court documents, criminal records, school records, public benefits statements, and medical exemption forms;
  • Utilize and improve upon existing intake process and comprehensive case management system for all immigration legal services clients and follow up accordingly to ensure completion of USCIS applications and compliance with funder and state standards;
  • Administer and accurately report data for all legal immigration services, entrepreneurial workshops, and community education seminars as mandated by the ONA contract;
  • Coordinate with the Adult Education and Literacy Director/Coordinator and AELP program support staff to administer data for all ESOL programming funded through the ONA stream, including creating and administering retention and completion strategies for students;
  • Develop marketing and promotion plans for recruitment, create resources for expanding ONA Opportunity Center activities and create program materials including those needed for outreach, intake and case management, and administration of program;
  • Collaborate on the cultivation and development of strategic partnerships within the community to enhance the resources of the ONA Opportunity Center;
  • Supervise certain adult program staff (ONA Program Associate, Latino Youth Achievement Initiative Coordinator, BWRC Office Manager) and program interns/volunteers;
  • Prepare any monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for programs and funders as needed;
  • Act as liaison with ONA analyst and ONA staff within the state office;
  • Participate in local coalitions for immigration issues and stay informed of relevant happenings in immigration law and policy on a local and national level;
  • Sign off as Preparer and Interpreter (as needed) on USCIS applications and, when necessary, submit a G-28 Notice of Appearance with relevant cases;
  • Supervise all legal immigration work at the center as BIA Representative in collaboration with ONA legal counsel;
  • Keep OBT staff informed of important immigration information and news relevant to participants, including creating strategies for proper internal referrals and program best practices;
  • Assist OBT development team in seeking out and applying for funding opportunities with the aim of expanding the immigrant services initiative at OBT;
  • Assist with the overall coordination of ONA and general Adult Services activities and site maintenance at the Bushwick Workforce Resource Center;
  • Perform all other appropriate duties assigned by supervisor.
Key Performance Measures: Achievement of ONA program outcomes for partnership, development, recruitment, enrollment, and immigrant services; ability to identify and develop resources to enhance ONA and BWRC program outcomes; ability to work effectively with a diverse range of participants with different obstacles to employability; ability to work as part of a team and be able to handle conflict situations.

Qualifications:
Spanish verbal and written proficiency required; Bachelor's Degree required; must be or become BIA accredited (partial or full) or have a JD with one year of immigration practice; experience providing Naturalization and DACA services, familiarity with NYC public services and systems, ability to supervise and quality check program staff, experience working with education and employment programs; public funding management and outcomes reporting; management and supervision of staff; high degree of discretion dealing with confidential information and cultural sensitivity; knowledge of Salesforce, BEST Plus, and TABE a plus.
