Program Name: Career Network: Healthcare About Phipps Neighborhoods: Phipps Neighborhoods helps children, youth, and families in low-income communities rise above poverty. We work in South Bronx neighborhoods where we can address the greatest barriers to lasting success through education and career programs, and access to community resources. We're dedicated to our neighborhoods for the long term, supporting individuals and families as they establish self-sufficiency. Our services create opportunities for people to thrive in every aspect of their lives. Program: Phipps Neighborhoods, in collaboration with Hostos Community College and Montefiore Medical Center, runs a Career Network Program for young people ages 18 to 26 to begin careers in the allied health services sector. Working closely with Hostos to develop the academic, classroom-based preparation required, coupled with hands-on internships and experiential learning at Montefiore Medical Center, Phipps Neighborhoods supports young people in exploring and identifying health care professions that would otherwise be inaccessible to them. Hostos Community College built an Introduction to Health Careers seminar to expose young people to various employment opportunities in the field. Montefiore Medical Center will provide career develop and exploration and an externship opportunity that is tailored to the specific needs of out of school youth so as to create a clear pathway to employment. Position Overview: The Work Readiness Instructor will teach our Career Network participants work related skills that will poise them to acquire and sustain a career-oriented job. Working closely with an interdisciplinary team of a Life Skills Counselor, Career Navigator, Outreach and Intake Specialist and Administrative staff, the Work Readiness Instructor will deliver lessons from the newly created contextualized healthcare curriculum which allows students explore their skills and career options, and prepare for employment.
