New Americans Initiative Coordinator F/T

The YMCA of Greater New York is seeking a New American Initiative Coordinator who will be responsible for supporting the strategy, implementation, fidelity, and quality of the New Americans Initiative programs and services. This position supports all aspects of programming, including but not limited to community outreach, recruitment, and participant outreach. This position will be required to have a rotating schedule that takes them to each Branch on a regular basis.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide ongoing support and trauma informed case management services to participants and community members including providing and documenting social service referrals and outcomes, as per program standards.
  • Handle all issues related to program eligibility and ensure participants understand and adhere to program philosophy, standards, rules and regulations.
  • Oversee recruitment and support registration, authentic assessment, and orientation for new students.  Ensuring consistent community outreach, retention, and recruitment within local communities.
  • Maintain internal case files and support the NAI Data Manager, ensuring timely data entry into government and internal databases or any other database assigned to the Initiative, including but not limited to intake, goals, and outcomes, pre and post testing, attendance, case notes and ensuring that supporting documentation is complete.
  • Maintain up to date referral network and linkage agreements, ensure that workshop instructors deliver contextualized, community-driven workshops that integrates technology, family, health, and financial literacy.
  • Assist with reporting to government and private funders, tracking and reporting student data and achievement results and coordinating the operational aspects of the New Americans Initiative.
  • Recruit, on-board and supervise volunteers and interns by articulating expectations, displaying model behavior, maintaining open lines of communication and being clear about roles and relationships.
  • Organize and manage Instructor and Intern/Volunteer schedules.

Supervisory:
  • Assist in organizing and managing Instructor and Intern/Volunteer schedules including coverage of schedules due to vacations, sick time or personal time.
  • Assist with the recruitment, on-boarding and supervision of volunteers and interns by articulating expectations, displaying model behavior, maintaining open lines of communication and being clear about roles and relationships.
  • Ensure that workshop instructors deliver contextualized, community-driven workshops that integrates technology, family, health, and financial literacy.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Model the best practices of hospitality and positive culture.
  • This position supports all aspects of programming, including but not limited to community outreach, recruitment, and participant outreach.
  • Work enthusiastically as part of a team.
  • Actively participate in professional development, designated meetings, and special events, as appropriate and requested.
  • Desired Skills & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Mental Health or a related field required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related experience required.
  • Bilingual required: Spanish/English or Mandarin/English.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices related to adult literacy and civic education, immigration legal services and trauma informed case management. 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel and working knowledge of Microsoft Suite; Window based computer applications and database management. 
  • Must be a self-starter, highly organized, patient and able to work well with others, and be able to establish positive relationships with participants, the community collaborators and partnerships.
  • Ability to travel to different YMCA branches as needed.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including a minimum of two evenings per week.
  • Ability and interest in working with diverse populations. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

Reading For Adults Instructor P/T

Part-time Reading for Adults Teacher at Literacy Partners, Inc.
Status: Contractor
Contract Term: August 21, 2023 - June 30, 2024
Compensation: $50/hour (12h/week)

Literacy Partners is seeking an exceptional educator who believes in the transformational power of literacy and its role in building a world of equity, inclusion, and justice. The Teacher for our Reading For Adults (RFA) program will primarily teach basic reading and writing and some math skills. Classes are currently in-person Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 6pm-9pm in lower Manhattan from September to June. The Teacher is assisted by volunteer tutors who work with students one-on-one and in small groups.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach one six-hour per week ABE class
  • Develop and adapt curriculum
  • Support and guide volunteer tutors
  • Administrative duties related to intake, attendance, and assessment.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of two years teaching adult education
  • Experience working with low-level emergent readers (NRS 1-2)
  • Experience with both direct instruction and student-centered to teaching/learning
  • Ability to teach in-person hybrid instruction
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field. Master’s degree desired.

Hot Bread Kitchen seeks a full-time ESOL instructor to teach contextualized lessons to adult bi/multilingual learners and help them achieve their personal and career goals. Our ESOL program embraces translanguaging pedagogy and focuses on developing English language skills for the workforce, specifically in the food industry.
This position will report directly to the Bridge Program Manager.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Provide contextualized and differentiated ESOL instruction; the classes include integrated digital skills 
  • Review and make revisions to our contextualized culinary ESOL curriculum to ensure members successfully complete the Culinary Training Program, get a job in the food industry, and pass the Food Protection Certificate course
  • Develop contextualized ESOL curriculum centered around the Culinary industry and  job-readiness
  • Organize and administer assessments

Adult Education Professional Development Associate:  The Literacy Assistance Center (LAC) seeks a dynamic adult educator and/or professional developer to join its professional development team. The position will have a strong focus on literacy and workforce professional development with instructional technology experience preferred. This is a full-time position
 
This team member will primarily be responsible for assisting in the delivery of the literacy-based trainings for ABE/HSE young adult and adult educators, implementing professional development activities on topics relevant to the current needs of youth workforce practitioners, covering assigned administrative duties and collaborating with other LAC professional development team members on assigned projects.
 
Reports to: Director of Numeracy and Workforce Development Services
 
Responsibilities:
  • Design and lead online and/or in-person workshops, participate in the LAC’s practitioner learning community, facilitate instructor coaching in content area of literacy
  • Develop curricular materials with and for workforce & ABE/HSE instructors, including materials that integrate academic skills development, digital skills and digital resiliency, and contextualized instruction
  • Coordinate and manage professional development events for assigned projects
  • Collaborate with project leads to design and develop contract workplans and needs assessments
  • Analyze and use qualitative and quantitative data to inform practice
  • Work with other LAC professional development team members to provide multi-content trainings and services
  • Learn and manage assigned contractual administrative duties
  • Other duties and organizational responsibilities as assigned

​Schedule: 
Typical M-F workday hours, with possibility of some evening hours (flexible remote work and/or on-site work as needed)
 
Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in education or a related field
  • Minimum of five years of experience as an adult literacy instructor, manager, and/or staff developer
  • Experience and proficiency in contextualizing and integrating literacy instruction with workforce development and career pathways
  • Experience delivering professional development and coaching adult educators
  • Understanding of adult learning theory and best practices
  • Demonstrable experience with instructional technology or digital literacy skills development (highly preferred)
  • Adept knowledge of the College & Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) and the Employability Skills Framework or 21 Century Skills
  • Skilled user of Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Highly skilled user of Google Workspace and applications
  • Comfortable learning new technology skills
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to take initiative and be self-directed with strong problem-solving abilities
  • Enthusiasm and ability to work as part of a team
  • Enthusiasm about working onsite in adult education programs and willingness to travel throughout and outside of NYC
  • Ability to effectively represent and promote the work of the organization
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing work environments and projects
  • Deep commitment to racial, social, and economic justice and a demonstrated ability and/or interest in aligning adult literacy education with social justice movements and organizing efforts

You might be a good candidate for teaching GED content with Community Impact! We are starting a new session that will run from the beginning of June to the end of August and are looking for teachers. Candidates are expected to be able to commit to teaching at least one subject, one day each week, with a set curriculum. They should be able to commit to 3 hours of class and 1 hour of prep work per week.
