The Borough of Manhattan Community College Center for Continuing Education and Workforce Development (BMCC) is seeking for immediate hire a creative and capable part time ESOL instructor for the grant funded Integrated English Language and Civics Education (IELCE) program. IELCE is an innovative program that combines English language acquisition with high demand technology workforce training. Students are co-enrolled in technology training and ESOL classes that directly support the language demands of that training. The IELCE Instructor must have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office, Excel and PowerPoint as well as a commitment to effective contextualized instruction in the ESOL classroom. In addition to instruction, the IELCE Instructor will assist the IELCE staff as they guide students through the educational sequence of the program—from initial recruitment and assessment to placement in the multi-leveled IELCE program where students acquire marketable computer skills and high-demand, industry-recognized certifications leading to employment. The Instructor will collaborate with partner agencies and work with students from diverse backgrounds.

Mornings or Evenings Unit: Adult Education & Family Literacy Fifth Avenue Committee (FAC), is a nationally recognized South Brooklyn based, non-profit community development corporation formed in 1978 whose mission is to advance economic and social justice by building vibrant, diverse communities where residents have genuine opportunities to achieve their goals as well as shape the community’s future. FAC’s Adult Education and Family Literacy unit serves over 700 students annually at the Adult Education Unit at 294 Smith Street and several locations in Sunset Park and Red Hook. Responsibilities: The Instructor will be part of a passionate team of instructors and administrators dedicated to helping foreign born residents of Brooklyn train for and find employment as bus drivers. In partnership with Brooklyn Workforce Innovation’s Red Hook on the Road, the instructor will help participants navigate the process of getting a CDL permit, gain the language skills necessary to pass the oral part of the licensing exam and prepare to enter RHOR technical driving program. Qualifications B.A./B.S. degree is required, and at least two year recent, relevant teaching experience with immigrant populations. Must be a certified Best Plus Test Administrator. Must have experience working with workforce development programs. Bi-lingual in Spanish or Chinese is a plus.
