The Jewish Community Council of GCI is looking to hire an experienced ESL instructor to provide ESL instruction to adults in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Classes will meet Monday through Thursday from 6:30 to 9pm.

Duties include: assessing/testing students, providing appropriate instruction etc. BA and excellent English written/oral skills required. BEST Plus certification and bi-lingual Spanish strongly preferred.

ILSC is an English language school located in Manhattan's Financial District. It is a relaxed pleasant place to work with modern facilities.

The class is 8 to 12 adult beginners using American English File 1; which would be supplemented with your own material. The schedule is from 9:30am-12:30pm Monday through Friday for at least 4 weeks with the possibility of continuation.

Organization Overview: The Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) is a non-profit, multi-service organization focusing primarily on the needs of children and low-income families, out-of-school and out-of-work youth, and aging New Yorkers. We operate programs at community centers located in the neighborhoods of East Harlem and Yorkville, and seek to deliver experiences that are impactful, innovative, and intergenerational. Through their involvement with Education and Workforce Development at the Isaacs Center, young adults engage in robust educational experiences at the same time as they receive workforce development training. This engagement is supported by individual case management. As a result of their participation, young adults involved in our program model enter or re-enter the workforce and earn the experience and credentials required to boost their hourly wage earnings and put them on a sustainable career path.

Position Summary: The Isaacs Center is seeking a highly motivated, skilled, and data-driven candidate to serve as the Learning Strategist. The Strategist will develop and facilitate academic interventions in support of young adults who have entered Education and Workforce Development at the Isaacs Center improve their literacy, advance toward a high school equivalency and college and/or develop the skills necessary to secure a career in growing New York City employment sector. The Strategist will work in close collaboration with an interdisciplinary team to identify and utilize assessment instruments that will provide a framework for instruction.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Work in close collaboration with the Instructional Leader and the Manager of Academic Services to develop curriculum, coordinate testing and assessment, and create comfortable environments for diverse learners.
• Develop and implement teaching strategies to assist young adults who have not found success in traditional learning environments. Provide and support a differentiated instructional model.
• Administer multiple forms of assessment, including summative and formative assessments, and use these assessments to inform lesson planning and day to day instructional strategies
• Facilitate instruction as needed. Provide one-on-one tutoring.
• Incorporate practical and project-based learning opportunities, discussion groups, and media in order to create a dynamic classroom experience.
• Maintain student portfolios, records, and contacts.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field required, Master’s preferred.
• Minimum of two years classroom teaching experience working with high-risk adolescent population.
• Knowledgeable of and ability to apply positive youth development principles.
• Demonstrated ability to motivate and challenge students to achieve a high level of performance through rigorous academic performance.
• Experience in curriculum design and implementation.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
