Teaching
  • Teaches one 5-week, in-person Computer Skills Class
  • Conducts individual tutoring sessions as needed for low literacy, vocational training, pre-ABE, HSE Tailors content for each individual lesson for each trainee for each session
  • Administers one 6-week, asynchronous Online Computer Skills Class
Departmental Responsibilities
  • Provides career, vocational, and educational counseling by determining trainees’ educational and professional qualifications and transferable skills by completing Education and Training intakes with trainees
  • Acts as Education & Training Department resource for clients and staff members alike Facilitates monthly Education and Training orientations as needed
  • Attends departmental and facility meetings
  • Performs other duties related to the goals of the Education and Training Team as assigned
 
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • This is a full-time position which includes evening hours – candidates must be able to teach 4 evenings per week from 6-9 pm

For 34 years, schools in the Internationals Network have provided options for English Language Learners.  We are currently seeking passionate, skilled and committed professionals to join our team in a New York-based position to start as a full-time temporary position with potential for full-time Data Analysis + Reporting Associate.
 
WHO WE ARE
English Language Learners represent nearly 10% of the US public school population. Across the US,  immigrant ELLs graduate at among the lowest rates and dropout at among the highest of all student subgroups. Internationals Network for Public Schools is the only school development and support organization that specifically addresses the educational needs of this population. 
 
Our mission is to provide quality education for recently arrived immigrants in middle and high schools by growing and sustaining a strong na­tional network of innovative public secondary schools, while broadening our impact by sharing proven best practices and influencing policy for English Language Learners (ELLs) nationally.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
Key components of the work in data and reporting are: 1) supporting schools to understand and use their student data to make strategic decisions and 2) gauging the success of programs and services as we transform schools that serve multilingual youth. In your role as Data Analysis + Reporting Associate you will support efforts on the impact of our programs and services across Internationals Network’s 16 New York City-based schools and 14 other schools and academics (in California, DC, Maryland, and Virginia, New Jersey, upstate New York). The Associate reports to the Director of Research and Innovation supporting data collection, analysis and reporting (both quantitative and qualitative) across Internationals Network, preparation of materials for engaging staff in review of impact data with the goal of continuous improvement. The Associate works across multiple projects to prepare evaluation materials for Internationals Network services and with staff across the organization to understand the impact of Internationals Network services on schools, students, and teachers. As a collaborator across teams, the Data Analysis and Reporting Associate works with Program, Development and Communications staff to collect and maintain data on impact of professional development services, provides updated data on schools and services, synthesizes articles and reports from the field to support development of new services as well as programmatic research efforts for continuous improvement.

  • Demonstrate analytical skills (Excel, Tableau), with the ability to make data requests, understand and navigate databases, combine datasets from different sources,  prepare evaluation materials for services, and compile results for analysis;
  • Be strong in project management, efficient, organized and nimble, with the ability to multitask, self-monitor, and self direct;
  • Work independently to create timelines and juggle multiple requests;
  • Demonstrate technical skills across the Google and Microsoft platforms, including Google docs, forms and spreadsheets, databases, Tableau, Powerpoint, Word and Excel
  • Demonstrate keen analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Be a diplomatic communicator who can work collaboratively and facilitate discussions with a range of school and organizational staff, district leaders, and teachers 
  • Be able to apply research skills and critical thinking, with the ability to use multiple sources and streams of data to generate insights about our schools, i.e. public data, spreadsheets from schools, surveys, and other published research
  • Be a critical thinker, using decisive reasoning to determine the best course of action
  • Demonstrate strong writing skills, with the ability to synthesize, find key ideas, summarize and write short reports for internal and external audiences
  • Collect, track, and report program and school  data  upon request
  • Prior experience or interest in learning data visualization skills.
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Familiarity with K-12 in NY and/or CA
  • Familiarity with NYC DOE Systems (ATS, STARS) a plus

The YMCA of Greater New York is seeking a New American Initiative Coordinator who will be responsible for supporting the strategy, implementation, fidelity, and quality of the New Americans Initiative programs and services. This position supports all aspects of programming, including but not limited to community outreach, recruitment, and participant outreach. This is a grant funded position subject to funding and review in June, 2022.

This position is temporarily remote but will be required to have a rotating schedule that takes them to each Branch on a regular basis.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide ongoing support and trauma informed case management services to participants and community members including providing and documenting social service referrals and outcomes, as per program standards.
  • Handle all issues related to program eligibility and ensure participants understand and adhere to program philosophy, standards, rules and regulations.
  • Support registration, authentic assessment, and orientation for new students. Ensuring consistent retention.
  • Maintain internal case files and in partnership with the Data Manger, ensure timely data entry into government and internal databases, including but not limited to intake, goals and outcomes, pre and post testing, attendance, case notes and insuring that supporting documentation is scanned and uploaded into the database.
  • Maintain up to date referral network and linkage agreements, ensure that workshop instructors deliver contextualized ,community-driven workshops that integrates technology, family, health, and financial literacy.
  • Assist with reporting to government and private funders; tracking and reporting student data and achievement results and coordinating the operational aspects of the New Americans Initiative.
  • Recruit, on-board and supervise volunteers and interns by articulating expectations, displaying model behavior, maintaining open lines of communication and being clear about roles and relationships.
  • Organize and manage Instructor and Intern / Volunteer schedules
  • Actively participate in professional development, designated meetings, and special events, as appropriate and requested.
  • Other activities and duties as needed that address the ongoing health and well-being of our staff and members.
  • Follow and maintain sanitary habits in accordance with CDC guidelines.

Desired Skills & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Mental Health or a related field required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related experience required.
  • Ability and interest in working with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices related to adult literacy and civic education, immigration legal services and trauma informed case management.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel and working knowledge of Microsoft Suite; Window based computer applications and database management.

Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement is currently in search of a Bilingual (English/Spanish) Program Assistant to support our evening ESOL program at I.S. 126 in Astoria.
 
The Program Assistant will be on site three evenings per week - Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday at 5-9pm - to ensure the smooth daily operation of English classes for our adult immigrant students. They will assist with student intake and testing, collect and record daily attendance, conduct follow up with students regarding attendance, refer students to receive additional support services, and perform data entry in appropriate databases. 
 
Successful candidates should be bilingual in English and Spanish and have a high school diploma. Prior experience in adult education and/or working with immigrant communities is preferred but not required.

The Institute for Career Development (ICD) is a fast-growing, dynamic not-for-profit workforce development organization based in New York City.  For over 100 years, ICD has been a leader in the field of vocational rehabilitation, helping people with disabilities and challenges or barriers to employment transform their lives through career development and employment.  Every year, ICD’s services put over 1,200 people on a path to career success. ICD’s 20+ member team helps adults, youth, Veterans, entry-level employees, and career changers with disabilities gain economic independence through specialized career planning and evaluation, certified training programs, placement services for job seekers, and providing talent acquisition expertise to employers.  Building on the organization’s program success in the five boroughs of New York City, ICD aims to increase its social impact through ongoing collaborations, advocacy, and innovative practices. 

SUMMARY OF POSITION: 
ICD seeks a dynamic Custodial Instructor with a track record of success. The selected candidate will teach our Custodial training program, which provides individuals with disabilities with the skills needed for entry-level employment in the janitorial maintenance field. Using appropriate industry methods, topics covered in the curriculum include: cleaning restrooms and office space; carpet cleaning/shampooing; window cleaning; cleaning building exteriors; marble and granite polishing; recycling; and working with floor machines while stripping, sealing, and finishing floors. The instructor will also provide and ensure basic safety instruction for all tasks, including OSHA requirements for Blood Borne Pathogens, Universal Precautions, and Material Safety Data Sheets.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Classroom Facilitation
  • Using a structured and approved curriculum, conduct technical training to prepare students for entry to mid-level jobs. Class size is approximately 15-20 students.
  • Conduct a highly interactive, hands-on style of teaching and facilitation in a formal classroom setting, from Monday to Friday; as well as facilitate a structured online learning platform for assignments, tests, and real-time performance monitoring.
  • Lead and facilitate students on their independent projects and online learning, including keeping content current and relevant as well as creating additional coursework, if required.
  • Managing Student Performance 
  • Provide students with ongoing feedback, conferencing, and performance appraisals.  Recognize any challenges early and work with the team and students to overcome them
  • Prepare student evaluations individually and in conjunction with the rest of the program team, consisting of Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors and Job Developers
  • Participate in all required student progress meetings with other members of the above program team; and monitor and hold students accountable to the ICD’s enrollment agreement
