Educational Specialist
RBSCC, INC. is seeking a part- time Educational Specialist. 8.25 hours per week. Salary: $ 38.00 per hour.
Responsabilities:
  • Ensure all activities and plans are aligned to program goals and CCLS.
  • Model lessons, strategies, and techniques for instructional staff.
  • Conduct classroom observations and provide guidance/supervision for instructional staff to ensure successful implementation of program curricula.
  • Meet regularly with staff to help with planning, modify curricula, and monitor student progress.
  • Consult with Program Director to make recommendations and keep Program Director well-informed.
  • Conduct any other related activities deemed necessary by program administration
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in secondary education (ELA, Literacy, Science, or Math) a must.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years teaching experience is a must.
  • Middle school experience is preferred.
  • Experience with curriculum development and project-based learning.

New American Initiative Instructor - Computer Literacy
The YMCA of Greater New York reaches half a million New Yorkers through programs that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.  The Prospect Park YMCA is seeking a New American Initiative Instructor – Computer Literacy, who will be responsible for developing curricula that is aligned with adult learning principals and the necessary educational gains, facilitating assigned classes in Computer Literacy, evaluating students’ progress, and supporting the programs and services within the New American Initiative.  

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and / or utilize lesson plans that reflect an understanding of how best to teach reading, writing, grammar, listening, speaking, and technology skills in thematically organized and developmentally / culturally appropriate ways.
  • Maintain up-to-date hard and soft copies of lesson plans, syllabi, curricula, and handouts. 
  • Teach computer literacy, or other assigned class, in a manner which builds student skill level and confidence.
  • Complete student assessments each cycle, within the communicated timeline of the Center. 
  • Maintain accurate and timely student files, including students’ work, documentation of skill development, test results, and case notes, as appropriate. 
  • Support with classroom administration, including ordering supplies as appropriate. 
  • Manage attendance regularly, including documenting classroom and submitting attendance for each class. 
  • Ensure timely data entry into databases (Collaborate, ASISTS, Capricorn), as needed.
  • Pre and post-test students using Best Plus standardized testing or alternative assessment tools. 
  • Model the best practices of hospitality and positive culture. 
  • Support all aspects of programming, including but not limited to community outreach, recruitment, and participant outreach. 
  • Work enthusiastically as part of a team and establish positive relationships with participants, the community, collaborators and partnerships.
  • Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings, and special events.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Education preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of experience teaching English and computer skills.
  • Ability and interest in working with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices related to adult literacy, preparing lesson plans, syllabi and curricula, conducting and preparing assessment tools, civic education, immigration legal services and case management, Best Plus Testing, Microsoft Office, including Excel, and working knowledge of Microsoft Suite.
  • Must be a self-starter, highly organized, patient and able to work well with others.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Strong hospitality skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

LaGuardia Community College’s Center for Immigrant Education and Training (CIET) seeks dynamic and innovative part-time ESOL instructors for its evening programs.
Responsibilities of this position will include:
  • Teaching 4-9 hours per week in an evening ESOL program between the hours of 6-9pm, Mondays to Thursdays (schedules vary);
  • Creating a communicative classroom environment for immigrant English language learner adults;
  • Leading students in contextualized high-intermediate ESOL lessons around such themes as college transitions, career planning, civic engagement, immigration issues, and job readiness;
  • Tracking student progress/ attendance and assisting the program with all required documentation;
  • Other related tasks, as necessary.
Requirements:

General Description
LaGuardia Community College’s Adult Basic Skills department in the Division of Adult and Continuing Education is seeking an Administrative Coordinator for its non-credit High School Equivalency (HSE) and Adult Basic Education (ABE) programs. The Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Director of Adult Basic Skills (ABS) and the Executive Director of Adult Community Learning. The Adult Basic Skills department is a grant-funded and tuition-based, non-credit, high school equivalency preparation program that prepares students to earn a High School Equivalency diploma and to achieve their college and career goals.

Other Duties
Key Responsibilities
  • Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Coordinate all recruitment and outreach activities targeting non-credit, high school equivalency adult clients.
  • Conduct intake and orientation sessions and manage the administration of initial assessments for prospective students.
  • Collect and maintain funder-mandated demographics and data on incoming participants.
  • Determine appropriate class placement in coordination with departmental staff and faculty.
  • Create and maintain class rosters and student attendance information in conjunction with faculty.
  • Manage required data entry into databases including SQL and ASISTS; maintain student files.
  • Organize and schedule post assessments (e.g.: TABE, TASC Readiness).
  • Coordinate TASC test center applications and appointments.
  • Maintain current program information and marketing materials for dissemination and websites; respond to staff, student, and applicant inquiries.
  • Manage mandated reporting of milestones and performance outcomes to funders and stakeholders.
  • Identify students with academic, attendance, behavioral, and/or personal barriers affecting performance and attendance from information supplied by faculty and attendance records to refer for counseling.
  • Serve as a liaison with LaGuardia’s Career Development Center for transitioning students completing CUNY applications.
  • Other duties as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Three (3) years of related experience working in adult education or a non-profit social services field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite software and experience using databases for client tracking; familiarity with New York State Education ASISTS database a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse adult student population, including English language learners.
  • Bilingual language skills a plus, Spanish preferred.
  • Familiarity with adult education assessments (e.g.: TABE and TASC) a plus.
  • This position requires some evening hours.

The primary responsibilities of the position will be:

Program Overview:
HSE Prep classes are a part of COJO Flatbush’s Adult Education division whose objective is to assist individuals to become self-sufficient.
The HSE instructor will lead classes, instruct students in all subjects included on the TASC, develop curriculum and materials, design lessons, maintain an engaging and successful learning environment, collaborate with program staff and maintain program data.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Education preferred.  One (1) year teaching experience in pre-HSE/HSE required.  Preference will be given for licensed teachers and qualified candidates with HSE teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of Pre-HSE and HSE curriculum and TASC testing requirements.  Ability to teach all TASC focused subject areas (reading, math, science, social studies and writing).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to incorporating innovative teaching methods including technology.
  • Ability to assess differences in learning styles and capitalize on student strengths.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office.
Responsibilities:
  • Maintain classrooms conducive to learning and facilitate successful participant engagement.
  • Establish clear expectations and encourage student accountability. Implement quality instructional practices, and vary methods of instruction, to encourage participation and retention
  • Teach classes and conduct whole group, small group and individualized instruction.
