HSE Program Specialist

Overview

Brooklyn Public Library Adult Learning office seeks a highly organized, responsible and dedicated individual willing to help adult learners meet their educational goals. The full-time High School Equivalency (HSE) Program Specialist will provide high quality professional educational and administrative support for WIOA Program Area 1 and HSE pathways (TASC and NEDP).  
The schedule for this position is as follows:
  • Tuesday 10a-6pm
  • Wednesday 12:45pm-8:00pm
  • Thursday 12:45pm-8:00pm
  • Alternate Friday/Saturday 9:15am-5:00pm (off on Monday when you work a Saturday)
Responsibilities
Outreach/Recruitment/Retention
  • Assist with departmental wide program outreach, recruitment, enrollment, monitor participants attendance, placement, retention, referrals, assessments, and outcomes for WIOA Program Area 1 and HSE pathways (TASC and NEDP)
  • Assist with program participant’s outcome follow-ups via phone and/or email
  • Serve as liaison for community partner agencies as per WIOA requirements such as BEOC, CUNY, etc.
  • Monitor program social media accounts, assist with marketing, create program flyers, assist with maintaining outreach/recruitment logs, sending e-mail blast to partners, etc.
  • Troubleshoot HSE and PreHSE email accounts and HSE hotlines
Educational Support/Programming
  • Effectively work with adults in an educational setting: pre-screen requests for program services both in person and via telephone/email; ability to obtain and manage required documentation and enter internal and external data in a timely and accurate manner
  • Assist program staff to coordinate, plan, and facilitate program enrollment sessions for integrated education and training classes (medical billing, food handlers, and technology)
  • Facilitate HSE screenings, provide support to instructors and participants in/outside of the classroom (e-learning platforms)
  • Highly organized and possess the ability to organize and conduct intake and orientation sessions to NEDP clients and HSE participants
  • Confer with HSE participants and plan informational workshops, special programming and Next Steps
  • Coordinate/communicate with other program staff including instructors, program assistants, volunteers and other agency partners about programming and best practices
  • Provide input to create program improvement goals and objectives for Program Area 1 and develop, design, and implement new programs/workshops based on community/participants needs
  • NEDP assessor/advisor; organize and conduct intake and orientation sessions to NEDP clients and HSE participants
  • Serve as TASC examiner and serve as a backup to collect and process NYSED required examinee paperwork and compile all TASC vouchers
  • Attend professional development trainings and meetings (NYC RAEN minimum 14 hours)
  • Lead contact for NYC Human Resources Admin. (HRA) program participant tracking (attendance and outcomes)
  • Assist with meeting all WIOA program requirements
  • Support all administrative work for Program Area 1 and HSE Pathways (TASC and NEDP) and create all departmental flyers and correspondences for internal and external use. Able to translate program materials in Spanish for external use
Assessment & Data Support
  • Monitor all program site Google sheets and e-learning platforms (attendance, waitlist, RSVPs, etc.), program data into ASISTS and analyzing data. Follow-up with ALC sites to ensure data is submitted by deadlines. Send out reminder and follow-up emails as needed.
  • Administer pre/posttest TABE assessments, TASC readiness, CASAS and confer with participants, etc.
  • Monitor, track, and approve SumTotal timesheets for substitute instructors
  • Input program events/stats into BPLs event calendar (monthly)
 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Liberal Arts or related field
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in adult education, training, or workforce development plus 1-year supervisory experience required
  • Must have strong ability to multi-task, meet deadlines as needed, work in a high paced environment, take initiative and work independently with high standards
  • Knowledgeable of grant funded programs and experience with successfully implementing
  • Able to maintain a high energy level and positive attitude daily
  • Punctual, dependable, and able to accomplish daily tasks independently without prompting
  • Able to create and follow routines, anticipate and address group needs, and solve problems that arise
  • Ability to work with adults in an educational setting
  • Highly organized and strong project management skills
  • Must be willing to travel between program sites and to perform the duties of the position from any site
  • Available to work flexible hours including some evenings and Saturdays as required
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish (spoken and written) strongly preferred; proficiency in Microsoft Office and clerical experience required
  • Specific experience with ASISTS and Salesforce databases. Experience not just entering data, but running and analyzing data reports and taking action to improve data quality and outcomes

TASC Clerk P/T

The TASC Clerk will provide quality professional support for the Brooklyn Public Library’s High School Equivalency Dept. located at the Pacific branch. Responsibilities will include assisting HSE (TASC testing) through planning, organizing, scheduling TASC exams (English/Spanish), and preparing test materials for 2-3 TASC testing sites. Duties also include, processing examinee information, collaborate with Adult Learning Center staff and external partners to schedule participants, advise and refer applicants as needed. The TASC Clerk will serve as a resource for all HSE students, potential test takers, and examinees, track examinees achievement by collecting data utilizing the appropriate management systems (DRC testing portal and Google Drive). Assist with administering NYSED required standardized assessments (TASC Readiness) as needed.
Responsibilities
  • Works collaboratively with key HSE team members and external partners
  • Triage HSE email and hotline inquiries
  • Ensures that all testing sites are staffed with a test examiner and/or proctor for all test sessions and collaborating with TASC examiners and other staff on all testing matters, changes, updates
  • Ensures candidate eligibility, schedule test sessions, disseminate test notifications for examinees, and prepares and submits all necessary reports and forms in a timely manner. Register eligible examinees and schedule examinees in the DRC database. Follow NYSED regulations and policies and ensures compliance with regulations and test security.
  • Maintains testing center statistics and prepares monthly and annual reports and refer examinees who need advising, counseling, or other support services to appropriate departments.
  • Serve as a resource for assessment information to students, staff, area high schools/preparation programs, and the community regarding program information.
  • Assist with HSE screenings/registrations as needed
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/HSE equivalent required
  • Bilingual (Spanish) Preferred
  • One (1) year of related work experience in an administrative office setting
  • Knowledgeable of NYS 4 Pathways to earn your High School Diploma
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Google Suite, etc.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Organized, detail-oriented, excellent time management, excellent judgement
  • Ability to form and maintain professional working relationships with staff, external stakeholders and program participants
  • Punctual, dependable, and able to accomplish daily tasks independently without prompting
  • Able to create and follow routines, anticipate and address group needs, and solve problems that arise
  • Able to maintain a high energy level and positive attitude on a daily basis
  • Passion for Adult Learning (HSE)
  • Ability to manage large amounts of program data
  • Ability to travel to other locations as needed
This is a grant funded, part time position. Salary is $25 per hour up to 19 hours per week.
 
The work schedule will be:
Alternate Friday/Saturday 10:00am-2:00pm
Tuesdays/Thursdays 10am-3pm
Wednesdays 3pm-8pm

ESL/Workplace Literacy Instructor- Evening class in Washington Heights (Manhattan)

The Jewish Community Council of GCI is looking to hire an experienced Adult ESL/Workplace Literacy Instructor to provide ESL/Workplace Literacy instruction to adults in Washington Heights. Class will meet 3 evenings per week from 6-9pm.  Duties include: assessing/testing students, providing appropriate instruction etc. BA and excellent English written/oral skills required. Spanish English Bilingual Tutor P/T

Description: 
The Harbor Heights Middle School serves recent arrivals from Spanish-speaking countries. The school strives to offer extra social, academic, and emotional support to their students. Harbor Heights’ leadership team has partnered with the Y to deliver the Schools Out New York City (SONYC) program to its students in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Since September 2014, both Harbor Heights and the Y have remained focused on the educational vision of building on children’s critical thinking in their own lives. 
 
We are seeking candidates who can assist students with their homework between 2:00-3:30PM. This is an unpaid position, however, those who are interested in applying can earn hours towards their internship or community service. Tutors must be able to speak Spanish and English fluently. Candidates need to be able to assist with homework assignments in ELA and/or Math (knowledge in other subjects such as Social Studies and sciences are a plus). Bachelor of Arts/Science degree and/or experience with teaching or tutoring is a plus.

Adult Programs Coordinator F/T

Community Impact is seeking an Adult Programs Coordinator

Basic Duties and Functions:
Reporting to the Senior Associate Director, the Program Coordinator will oversee comprehensive support services for Community Impact’s network of adult education and workforce programs and coordinate new initiatives in Upper Manhattan. 

 
  • Coordinate administrative, programmatic and tracking activities for College Road, Job Road and Social Services
  • Plan, implement and promote satellite programs such as CAFÉ Prep and Harlem Youth Opportunity Hub
  • Develop and supervise data collection and tracking systems for wrap around services
  •  Assist with the writing and editing of grant proposals and funding reports; draft and design newsletters, and outreach materials
  • Oversee grant deliverables at selected neighborhood partner sites
  • Train and coordinate the work of 20-25 student workers who assist with administrative and programmatic tasks
  • Network with neighborhood agencies for cross referrals to promote more holistic service delivery for community members; maintain and expand community partnerships
  • Maintain program records including evaluation results
  • Coordinate professional development activities including tracking to ensure that staff members and student workers attend required and appropriate training
  • Develop and maintain relationships with University departments to secure rooms and identify campus resources and opportunities
  • Set up and oversee all Annex office systems including communication, space and lab usage, data management, and information storage
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
MSW degree and/or equivalent with a minimum three years’ related social service experience required. Strong computer proficiency (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Google Suite) and database management skills required. Strong administrative and organizational skills and ability to work independently and to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities in a busy environment necessary. Experience in adult education, workforce development, and program evaluation preferred.
