Special Education Technology Instructor (FT)
This job posting is for an Open Position to start a new and innovative program, called the IT Academy, which is a crucial part of the NYC: ATWORK Training Academy, powered by Cisco and sponsored by NYC Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities. These key positions will have the amazing opportunity to get “on the ground floor” in establishing an exciting new joint venture between a non-profit organization and government to create the first Training Academy in the country to serve people with disabilities!  And based on the success of the program, these two new roles will provide consultation and leadership for future planned Academies sponsored by the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities’ NYC: ATWORK and ICD – Institute for Career Development.  As a result, these two new teaching positions will successfully complete the Cisco Certified Academy Instructor (CCAI) training and certification program to achieve proficiency in Cisco Academy curriculum and teaching methods.  And obtain their teaching license from the New York State Education Department’s Adult Career & Continuing Education Services’ Bureau of Proprietary School Supervision (BPSS) to conduct training at ICD-Institute for Career Development.
 
The qualified candidate must possess experience in curriculum development, methodology, content, and delivery of interactive, facilitation-based training utilizing multiple teaching platforms including classroom, web-based, hands-on, and self-directed instruction.  Ideally, the candidate will have experience teaching technology courses, specifically in Cisco CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) certifications, or is eager to complete the Cisco Certified Academy Instructor (CCAI) training and certification program, to achieve proficiency in the Academy curriculum and teaching methods. 
 
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum 2-3 years of teaching experience, as well as in curriculum development. Of utmost importance is the candidate’s deep experience in adapting content and teaching students with disabilities.
  • Ability to teach in a highly interactive and hands-on style, and to analyze and synthesize technical information.
  • Must have excellent knowledge of Windows and Linux Operating Systems.
  • Approximately 6 months to 1 year working in the IT field, preferred.
 
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATES/LICENSES:
  • BA or BS degree.
  • Certification in teaching Special Education, and/or background in teaching Special Education preferred.
  • Must have passed or be willing to take and pass the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) in Networking and Cyber Security (ICD will subsidize cost of training for the right candidate).
  • Must have also passed or be willing to take Cisco Certified Academy Instructor (CCAI) training (ICD will subsidize cost of training for the right candidate).

POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Adult Literacy and Training, this position is responsible for implementing the STEM @3PM program in assigned schools. This position is also responsible for collaborating with teachers in promoting interdisciplinary STEM activities into the core curriculum.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Deliver STEM-oriented instruction through project-based learning methods.
  • Attends professional development and training related to STEM programs and methodologies, staying abreast of current research.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and performance assessments, which guide the learning process toward curriculum goals and student learning.
  • Uses technology to promote learning, creativity, and collaboration.
  • Works directly with school administrators and staff in the development, implementation, and evaluation of STEM initiatives and curriculum.
  • Organizes, develops, and coordinates special STEM events/activities.
  • Coaches teachers on STEM initiatives and instructional best practices in the STEM areas.
  • Serves as liaison to prospective or selected STEM vendors, to determine the best
  • resources, options and innovations that will optimize the learning experience for students and staff.
  • Initiates new programs that support the STEM vision.
  • Shares STEM events and activities through social media, such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
  • Follows the New York City District’s job description for teacher.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters in Mathematics and/or Science and/or STEM preferred or related field. Bachelor of Science Degree and/or demonstrated experience in teaching in a classroom environment required.
  • Experience in delivering professional development to teachers.
  • Evidence of at least three (3) years of exemplary classroom teaching experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A proven track record in the use of a rich array of instructional methods, the analysis and use of data and technology to improve instruction, and the ability to build professional relationships, solve problems, and plan collaboratively.
  • Evidence of productive experience with problem-based learning.
  • Evidence of planning, organization, and time management skills that will bring structure and accountability to the position.
  • Proven ability to apply science and/or math content knowledge, formative assessment, and technology integration at a high level.
  • Deep understanding of student learning theory, brain-based learning, and differentiated instruction.
  • Deep understanding of NET-S, NGSS, and CCSS.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with teachers regarding student learning.
  • Desire to continue learning “what works” in classroom instruction.

STEM College Access and Success Coordinator F/T

STEM College Access and Success Coordinator
Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with of Pre-College Academic
Programming (PCAP) managerial team at LaGuardia Community College, the Coordinator will oversee the implementation of this campus-wide project to build awareness and aspiration for STEM careers, conduct sector-focused outreach and activities, facilitate the college transition and readiness services and the day-to-day operations of the initiative to ensure that all timeline goals and student success benchmarks are met.
 
The STEM College Access and Success Coordinator is responsible for the planning,
