SUNY Queens EOC (administered by York College, CUNY) seeks three part-time adjunct lecturers for Pathways to College to work remotely (evening classes) and in person (day classes) at its Jamaica location.  The Center serves an adult, diverse, multi-ethnic population of students.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required or Master’s degree preferred;
  • Proficiency in remote learning instruction;
  • Knowledge of Google Classroom and Zoom proficiency; as well as,
  • Experience working with adult learners and recognizing various learning styles.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct courses in person during day hours or remotely during evening hours;
  • Establish clear goals and expectations;
  • Develop lesson plans and maintain a cooperative learning environment;
  • Monitor students’ performance and attendance for required reporting systems;
  • Keep students and administrators informed of student progress by sharing collected data; and
  • Provide feedback to students during office hours.

ESOL Instructor F/T

Full-time ESOL Instructor Needed
CAMBA needs an ESOL instructor to work full-time, in person, and on site at its Education Center, located at 955 Flatbush Avenue – Brooklyn, N.Y.

The work schedule is 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
The salary is $43,700 per year.
The hired teacher will teach a morning class, from 9 am to 12 noon, and an afternoon class from 1 to 4 pm; 4 to 5 pm is prep time.

It is required that candidates have at least a BA/BS in education or a related field and at least 2 years of experience as an ESOL instructor; MA/MS preferred. Candidates must be familiar with Internet resources of relevance to English learners and be able to integrate technology and workplace skills into classroom instruction.

​Applicants who are BEST Plus Administrators, who have experience in computer-assisted instruction, who are self-starters, and who are highly organized are preferred. PT Adult Education Career Counselor, RiseBoro Community Partnership 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Provide career development and job search counseling to adult literacy students in both individual and group settings. 
  • Conduct an initial education and career plan, then provide ongoing support for each student. 
  • Ensure that student progress is being tracked and properly documented.  
  • Assist students in registering for the Department of Labor JobZone website as well as conducting other job search and placement activities. 
  • Collaborate with the technology instructor to ensure that each student is assisted in the creation of a resume and general cover letter. 
  • Maintain students’ portfolio. 
  • Invite guest speakers from different career and education fields to speak with students about career options. 
  • Meet with Program Director and Program Coordinator on a regular basis to discuss students’ progress and document tracking performance data. 
  • Refer participants internally or externally for support services as needed to address their specific needs and follow-up to ensure services are being offered. 
  • Work with student and partners to secure milestone verifications. 
  • Complete other assignments as directed by Program Coordinator and Program Director. 
  • ** During the months of July and August, contingent on the availability of funds, the Career Counselor will transition to a position within the Education Division that is comparable in duties and responsibilities.

  • Provide assistance and referrals to all adult learners who are in need of services. 
  • Complete and regularly update individual Education Plans with students to clearly outline and track educational goals and support services provided. 
  • Work with students to ensure that each develop a resume and general cover letter. 
  • Conduct a minimum of 20 counseling sessions per week (group or individual) 
  • Make appropriate referrals for students when in need of services such as education, health, legal, family counseling, housing and other support and wrap-around services needed as determined during the initial student assessments and action plan. 
  • Reach out to the community in order to update the program's Referral Resource Guide; make follow-up phone calls as needed.

ESOL Instructor P/T

​P/T ESOL Instructor
Adult English Language and Literacy (AELL) is the direct service provider of ESOL and adult literacy instruction for the New York Public Library.  They use professional teachers to offer free instruction to adult patrons in reading, writing, speaking and listening from a 0 to 8th grade level. Through formal classes in language and literacy, as well as elective offerings such as English conversation and citizenship preparation groups, AELL has taken on the charge to expand ESOL programming in the Library through both in-person and online instruction.

Key Responsibilities:

Working with the Associate Director and the Hub Manager, hourly instructors will:
  • Teach ESOL classes that promote English language proficiency for students assessed at NRS levels 1-6
  • Follow the prescribed curriculum in a communicative language  teaching environment during class-time.
  • Instruct adult ESOL students in classes and learning experiences which will lead to the achievement of their educational and personal goals.
  • Assist in the managed enrollment process to recruit and maintain students and student records
  • Maintain daily attendance records
  • Prepare weekly lesson plans for each session based on the curriculum.

Skills Knowledge & Expertise
  • Bachelor’s degree required, with training and/or experience in ESOL
  • Experience teaching adults both in-person and online
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work well with a variety of people, in a multicultural setting, involving a variety of team situations
  • Experience administering standardized assessments
  • Successfully demonstrated knowledge of technology-assisted learning, instructional software, video, audio and distance learning
  • Successfully demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Zoom

Adult Education Coordinator P/T

P/T Adult Education Coordinator with Community Impact at Columbia University. This is a temporary, 6-month position, 20 hours/week: Monday-Thursday 3:30pm-8:30pm.
 
Basic Duties and Functions  Join the staff at Community Impact at Columbia University as a part-time Adult Ed Coordinator to help coordinate our evening GED and ESOL programs. These programs provide free classes as well as a full range of academic offerings and support services designed to help neighborhood adults improve their English and/or achieve their HSE diploma, enroll in college, and obtain employment.
 
Duties include:
  • Coordinate ESOL/GED participant recruitment, enrollment, and class placement
  • Administer pre and post tests to measure participant benchmarks and progress
  • Supervise Columbia University student staff and volunteers
  • Track participant attendance and performance
  • Initiate and nurture relationships with community organizations and University
  • departments to facilitate participant, volunteer, and work-study recruitment
  • Assist teachers with lesson plans and classroom management
  • Connect participants with wrap around services
  • Plan, organize and deliver participant orientation sessions and completion ceremonies
  • Assist with grant management including requirements for enrollment and outcomes
  • Attend required adult education training workshops
 
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with two years minimum experience in adult education or a related field required. Prior experience in program management, oversight of government grants and staff supervision preferred. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, have excellent oral and written communication skills, and be able to manage multiple tasks. Salary range of $30-34/per hour, commensurate with experience.

Online teaching is a plus.

CASES' youth programs aim to help New York City's legal-system-involved young people, aged 13-24, to lead productive, crime-free lives. Our approach is distinguished by individualized case management, evidence-based programming, and group activities that build positive peer associations. For many, this is the first time in their lives that they are participating in activities that help them set personal goals and develop the skills they need to reach them. As a result, hundreds of our youth participants have enrolled in secondary, post-secondary, and vocational institutions acquired their High School Equivalency diplomas, found unsubsidized employment, and ended their involvement in the legal system.

CASES' youth programs operate a High School Equivalency Program for participants ages 17-27. We aim to provide young people who have been disconnected from education a chance to reconnect through creative and thoughtful lesson plans.

Work is expected to be done in person – at the office and/or in the community; occasional travel throughout NYC when needed.

Job Description
Essential Duties: 
  • Provide a safe learning environment for students, filled with opportunities to experience success, academic advancement, and support;
  • Teach all subjects of the GED test: Math, Science, Writing, Reading, and Social Studies;
  • Develop curriculum maps and level-appropriate lesson plans that promote balanced literacy and student-centered instruction, addressing multiple learning styles;
  • Lead educational field trips and contribute to planning of events and celebrations;
  • Administer the TABE assessment for new students;
  • Teach customized enrichment classes to those who have passed some subjects of the GED;
  • Plan and facilitate weekly Education enrichment group open to all CASES youth;
  • Maintain and enter attendance in databases;
  • Write progress notes for every student, with attention to those who are mandated to services;
  • Communicate with other staff about participants’ progress and challenges and collaborate to create success plans for students experiencing difficulties
Secondary Duties:
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings;
  • Provide tutoring to active participants as well as graduates as time allows;
  • Assist with Education referrals to appropriate settings and providers;
  • Assist with development of and/or facilitate a Project-Based learning group for 14- and 15- year-olds during SYEP;
  • In cases of inclement weather or COVID exposure: provide instruction in virtual settings, including synchronous video classes and asynchronous assignments;
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Director
