ABE Instructor P/T

CAMBA, Inc. seeks a part-time ABE instructor to work at its Adult Literacy Center (885 Flatbush Avenue – Brooklyn, N.Y.)

The class will meet in the afternoon from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Candidates must have a B.A/B.S. in education or a related field; Masters preferred. Candidates must have taught ABE/GED/TASC for at least 3 years and must have experience administering TABE and working with low income and/or ethnically diverse populations. For this position, the ability to effectively teach at least 6th-grade Arithmetic, Geometry, and Algebra to adults is a must.

Applicants with experience in computer-assisted instruction, who are self-starters, and highly organized are preferred.

The CUNY Start Academic Program Specialist reports to the CUNY Start Program Manager and is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the program’s operations to ensure that the campus meets its enrollment, retention and matriculation targets. The CUNY Start Program Specialist is expected to oversee the work related to the training of staff and successful implementation of recruitment, outreach and intake. The Program Specialist is responsible also for administering the day-to-day operations that support approximately 30 teachers, advisors, tutors and writing assistants.

Microsoft Office Instructor P/T

​A Microsoft Office Instructor is a professional who has completed a series of certification exams to demonstrate high proficiency in Microsoft's Office software suite.  The instructor in this role will help students prepare to work, live, and contribute to the social and civic fabric of their communities, and to learn and use the functional technical skills required for living in and contributing to society in the 21st century. GCS students will be expected to apply basic technical skills  in authentic, integrated ways to solve problems, complete projects,  and creatively extend their abilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ability to perform moderate to complex computer functions using MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Explorer, Internet browser, Outlook Exchange, and web search engines.
  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing, and presentation skills required.
  • Ability to utilize different methods and mediums in delivering course material.
  • Evening hours may be required.
  • Experience in organizing and writing reports and presentations of a technical nature.
  • Proven educational or administrative experience in critical thinking, problem solving and judgment skills.
  • Able to obtain and maintain licenses if applicable as required by state or accrediting commissions.
Qualifications
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to present courses      effectively and confidently. 
  • Proven ability to differentiate lesson plans based upon learner levels.
  • Time management and punctuality are vital.
  • Active listener and proficient in student engagement.
  • Good judgment and decision-making ability.
  • Able to remain calm and bring the classroom back under control when things get unruly or off-topic.
  • Possesses flexibility in teaching strategies that align with the learning styles of students.
Education and Experience
  • Minimum 3 years applicable teaching experience.
  • Microsoft Office Specialist Certification
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred. Degree must be from an institution accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Will also be required to maintain varying levels of Microsoft certifications, which must be renewed each year. Will also be responsible for attending training on new versions of Microsoft Office products.

Bridge to College and Careers Program Manager F/T

Bridge to College and Careers Program Manager
 
The Pre-College Academic Programming Department (www.laguardia.edu/pcap) is seeking a full-time Program Manager to successfully implement all aspects of the Bridge to College and Careers Project at LaGuardia Community College. The Bridge Program serves between 250-300 low-income adults and out-of-school youth each year.  Students study to earn a high school equivalency diploma and create a plan to successfully transition to postsecondary training and college degree programs.
 
The Manager will oversee the implementation and day-to-day operations of the highly successful, evidence-based Bridge Program to ensure that the program is operating as intended and that program goals are being met.
 
We are seeking a creative education professional who has a minimum of 3 years of experience working in education and training, including at least 2 years of supervisory/managerial experience and at least 1 year of instructional experience. Master's degree in Education, Social Work, or Related Fields strongly preferred.
