Educational Specialist (Bilingual) F/T

Star Learning Center, a program of GRCC, is a year-round tutoring program for underserved students from across NYC. The program provides one-to-one academic support and educational advocacy to students in grades 2 through 12. Each student at Star is matched with a volunteer tutor. Tutors receive an orientation to the Center and their individual students and staff provide ongoing coaching and support. Star also connects students with other GRCC programs and outside resources to enable them to reach their full potential.
 
Star Learning Center seeks a committed, compassionate, and highly organized individual to join a close-knit and diverse community of staff, students, volunteer tutors and parents. The candidate should enjoy working closely with others and also work well independently. We are looking for a team member invested in having an impact on the lives of young people, committed to learning, and inspired to be a part of ending educational inequities.
 
Schedule: Monday 11:00 am to 7:00 pm, Tuesday and Wednesday 10:30 am to 6:30 pm, Thursday and Friday 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
 
Salary Range: $37,881 - $47,351
 
Goddard Riverside and Isaacs Center follow the CDC and NYS recommendations to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and are now requiring all new hires to be vaccinated against COVID-19 unless they have a qualified exemption.

Roles, Responsibilities and Essential Duties
  • Supervise and support 200+ tutors and students every week
  • Evaluate academic needs of all students; administer testing for new students and write testing reports; create tutoring plans with annual goals using testing results, student report card data, IEPs, and teacher comments
  • Prepare and deliver tutor orientations, provide ongoing supervision of tutoring plans and continual training to volunteer tutors
  • Support all student-tutor pairs with modeling and materials; review and comment on every session plan prepared by tutors; offer trainings
  • Organize and maintain STAR’s library, including researching new book titles and tutoring materials, sorting donations, and working closely with library clerk
  • Research online tutoring materials for 2nd –12th grades
  • Tracking report card and other data to identify need for additional support
  • Occasionally tutor students
  • Communicate with parents regarding special education needs and goals, review IEPs with parents, and refer to special education advocates
  • Encourage and promote reading for pleasure by recommending books based on student interest and reading level
  • Assist in data collection for Star program evaluations
 
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred in Education or related field
  • Teaching/tutoring experience with children and teens
  • Knowledge of an Orton-Gillingham based, multi-sensory approach to teaching reading
  • Must be fluent in written and spoken Spanish
 
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, families and tutors
  • Experience with literacy assessments, teaching strategies, and student data analysis
  • Knowledge of NYC 2-12 curriculum
  • Working knowledge of the New York City Special Education process including services obtained through IEPs
  • Knowledge of early literacy practices and children’s literature
 
Computer Skills Needed
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications
 
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift boxes
 
Work Environment
  • Office and tutoring center/ work from home hybrid model (through June 2023)

The Educational Specialist has the overall responsibility for the development and implementation of the academic curriculum, program compliance and quality assurance for the ESOL CIVICS Program at Union Settlement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Design, implement and recommend academic curriculum needs for students.
  • Meet with Program Director to establish and review the academic learning curriculum of the program.
  • Provide Intake, Assessment and Orientation for each enrollee.
  • Research and develop new resources and materials to enhance the teaching curricula.
  • Provide class instruction in ESL.
  • Administer BEST PLUS tests at intake and regularly thereafter to monitor and document enrollee progress.
  • Maintain Milestone performance files for each enrollee.
  • Maintain and submit daily enrollee attendance. Follow-up with enrollees as needed to ensure their continued participation. Maintain office hours.
  • Meet with students individually each cycle to review progress and need for additional help.
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports on the enrollees and the classes.
  • Prepare, Review, coordinate, and submit weekly Educational Lesson Plans.
  • Make educational referrals.
  • Provide progress reports as needed
  • Attend Staff development training, program meetings and related conferences.
 
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Assist students with their academic projects, homework and provide enrichment programming services.
  • Assist Program Coordinator and Program Director as needed.  Perform other duties as assigned.
            
SPECIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
Master Degree  in any relevant subject  with minimum three year teaching experience or  BA/BS and minimum three years educational teaching experience.


SPECIFICATIONS FOR EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
  • Experience working in classroom setting.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Experience with leading large and small group instruction.
  • Computer literate, including experience with all Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in developing and implementing curricula preferred.
  • Classroom management and overall strong organizational skills preferred.
 
SPECIFICATIONS FOR PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Regularly required to talk, hear, walk, stand, & sit. 
  • Able to climb stairs if necessary.
  • Able to operate a computer keyboard, mouse & office equipment.
  • Ability to read printed materials and computer screens.
  • Able to travel to multiple locations as needed.

Job description: The Educational Specialist will establish the framework of positive youth  development and career pathways and positive guidance to staff members  for the OST program. Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Identify learning needs and facilitates learning process, including development, delivery, implementation and evaluation of contextualized HSE
  • Plan and design curricula from education program, researches and defines educational goals, objectives and methodologies to meet program goals
  • Assist with developing an Individual Service Strategy(ISS) and developing educational career-related goals collaboratively with participants based on motivational interviewing process
  • In conjunction with Program Director develop and participate in high quality, relevant staff training
  • Provide positive guidance, discipline, mentoring and role modeling to staff members  and youth served
  • Support and work with program participants in career pathways
  • Provide supportive  services, recommend  interventions when appropriate and make educational referrals to other services when needed
  • Monitor attendance at Fedcap services and at offsite programming
  • Assist coordination of workshops to be offered to program participants
  • Handle data entry responsibilities, including outcomes reporting
  • Provide follow up services for program graduates
  • Participate in regularly scheduled supervision and ongoing training
  • Provide weekly reports to Program Director
  • Perform other duties as required
Skills and Qualifications
  • A minimum of bachelor’s degree in Education or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in curriculum planning, development and Writing
  • Demonstrated ability  to identify needs  analyze and logically organize complex information and transform that into professionally designed, engaging  and effective training materials
  • Experience working with youth and young adults, including three years of experience with court involved youth and young adults within the last five years
  • Ability to manage and facilitate educational programs
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent presentation, Writing and interpersonal communication skills
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred

Educational Specialist
RBSCC, INC. is seeking a part- time Educational Specialist. 8.25 hours per week. Salary: $ 38.00 per hour.
Responsabilities:
  • Ensure all activities and plans are aligned to program goals and CCLS.
  • Model lessons, strategies, and techniques for instructional staff.
  • Conduct classroom observations and provide guidance/supervision for instructional staff to ensure successful implementation of program curricula.
  • Meet regularly with staff to help with planning, modify curricula, and monitor student progress.
  • Consult with Program Director to make recommendations and keep Program Director well-informed.
  • Conduct any other related activities deemed necessary by program administration
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in secondary education (ELA, Literacy, Science, or Math) a must.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years teaching experience is a must.
  • Middle school experience is preferred.
  • Experience with curriculum development and project-based learning.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
