Adult Education Coordinator, New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) created the Office of Community Schools (OCS)  
Position Summary: 
The New York City school system is the largest in the country, composed of approximately 1.1 million students and 75,000+ teachers in over 1,800 schools. In February 2015, the New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) created the Office of Community Schools (OCS) to develop and implement one of the pillars of Mayor de Blasio and Chancellor Fariña’s education agenda.
 
Community Schools are schools that strategically organize resources and share leadership so that social services are integrated into the fabric of the schools enabling them to better serve the needs of families. Community Schools stand as centers of opportunities in neighborhoods – places where families, with whatever challenges they bring to the table, can get the supports they need to make sure students come to school ready and able to learn.
 
Our approach is based on a growing body of evidence showing that an integrated focus on academics, health and mental health services, youth development, expanded learning opportunities, and family and community supports are critical to improving student success.
 
OCS currently provides support for 150 community schools. OCS develops strategies and policies to increase the capacity of schools and community partners to develop tailored supports to improve each school, including social services, healthcare, counseling and mental health supports, and expanded learning opportunities. The Department of Education’s OCS and Adult and Continuing Education (OACE), in partnership with the New York City Council, will be expanding supports for Community Schools to provide Adult Education programs.
 
Job Description: The Adult Education Coordinator is responsible for being primary liaison to the Office of Adult and Continuing Education (OACE) and to assist OCS providers with the startup and implementation of Adult Education services in 22 Community Schools. The Adult Education Coordinator will assist with development and training (in collaboration with a Technical Assistance provider), conduct site visits, and collect, review and interpret data to help support Community Schools and CBO partners successfully roll out Adult Education programs. The ideal candidate will possess strong written and verbal communication skills, and exceptional project management skills.

Work Schedule: February – June 2017, 35 hours/week
Reports to: Senior Program Manager of After School Programs
Direct Reports: None
Key Relationships: Works closely with the Office of Community Schools, Office of Adult and Continuing Education, Technical Assistance provider, Community Schools and community-based organizations (CBOs).
Responsibilities:
  • Build and cultivate relationships with the Office of Adult and Continuing Education, CBOs, Community School personnel and other key stakeholders.
  • Assist OCS and OACE with outreach, recruitment, and retention strategies of adult students.
  • Support and coordinate training sessions with OACE and schools administration.
  • Coordinate technical assistance with OACE and Literacy Assistance Center (LAC).
  • Provide support for classroom instruction.
  • Conduct site visits to Community Schools to ensure that schools and CBO providers are effectively working together to run Adult Education programs.
  • Gather, organize, analyze, and report on multiple qualitative and quantitative data sources to monitor and track the effectiveness of Adult Education programs in Community Schools.
  • Track and analyze data regarding student attendance, recruitment benchmarks, and program goals.
  • Connect adult learners with broader family engagement and leadership development opportunities.
  • Represent OCS at key community events, recruitment fairs and other community outreach events.
  • Serve an expert for OCS in responding to Office of Community School Adult Education Program and respond to inquiries from various constituents.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualification Requirements:
  1. Minimum: A master's degree from an accredited college in education, language teaching, economics, finance, accounting, business or public administration, human resources management, management science, operations research, organizational behavior, industrial psychology, statistics, personnel administration, labor relations, psychology, sociology, human resources development, political science, or a closely related field, and two (2) years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in budget administration, economic or financial administration, fiscal or economic research;  management or methods analysis, operations research, organizational research or program evaluation; educational, personnel or public administration, recruitment, position classification, personnel relations, labor relations, employee benefits, staff development, employment program planning/administration, labor market research, economic planning, fiscal management, or a related area, for educational program(s) and/or institution(s), 18 months of which must have been in an executive, managerial, administrative or supervisory capacity.  Supervision must have included supervising staff performing professional work in the areas described above; or
  2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four (4) years of satisfactory full-time professional experience as described in "1" above, including the 18 months of Project Management, administrative or supervisory experience described in "1" above.
Preferred:
  • Adult or Continuing Education experience.
  • Working knowledge of OACE led adult instruction.
  • Experience working with CBO partners to implement social service support strategies.
  • Passion for critically thinking about education reform and school turnaround initiatives for struggling schools and high-needs student populations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders of various personal and occupation backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated experience building relationships with internal and cross-divisional colleagues.
  • Demonstrated experience in using data driven decision-making to drive school and classroom-level instruction.
  • Ability to organize, analyze and interpret data for diverse constituent groups.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and project management skills.
  • Expertise and graduate degree in the field of Education program planning and evaluation.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel and PowerPoint and ability to work with software applications, such as webinars, blogs, and other data presentation tools (i.e. Tableau).
  • Capable of trouble-shooting, problem-solving, and providing high-quality work within a fast-paced institution.

Financial Wellness Coordinator
The Pre-College Academic Programming Department at LaGuardia Community College (www.laguardia.edu/ccpi) is seeking a full-time Financial Wellness Coordinator to successfully implement all aspects of the precollege and first year Student Financial Health Early Alert Initiative (EAI). The Financial Health Early Alert Initiative connects low income, first generation students to the financial support and services they need to succeed in college.

Adult Education and Literacy (AELP) Coordinator (Full-time) – Brooklyn, NY

The AELP provides classes in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Adult Basic Education (ABE) and High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation for adults ages 19 and above.  The AELP incorporates job readiness, college preparation and job placement into its curriculum.  The goal of the program is to help adults improve their English language proficiency, enhance literacy skills, gain citizenship, obtain HSEs, and obtain or improve employment.

Duties will include managing the AELP program across several sites in Brooklyn; helping to implement standardized ESOL, ABE, CIVICS and TASC curricula for the use of all instructors; ensuring that instructors deliver contextualized, student-driven curriculum that integrates work readiness skills, technology, family, health, and financial  literacy; overseeing recruitment, registration, authentic assessment and orientation for new students; assisting with reporting to government and private funders; tracking and reporting student data and achievement results; supervising some adult literacy staff at all program locations. 
 
Qualifications:  Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree; preferably Master’s in Education, Administration or related field and minimum of two years of experience in Adult Education; must possess excellent oral and written communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel; Salesforce, Capricorn and/or other database experience required; BEST Plus certification along with knowledge of TABE and NRS reporting standards preferred; community outreach and partnership experience a plus; must be able to work flexible hours to include evenings. Proficiency in Spanish extremely helpful.  Hours will be Monday through Thursday, 12:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Must be willing to travel between all program sites.

Career Prep Coordinator F/T

Grace Outreach seeks a skilled, passionate professional to play an integral role in the delivery of services in the Career Prep program area of the organization. This position requires the ability to deliver career-based content to students in a classroom setting, knowledge of the NYC workforce development landscape, ability to advise students 1-on-1 regarding career options and possibilities, flexibility, the ability to communicate positively in multiple directions, and an openness to continual learning. The Career Prep Coordinator will also be focused outside the organization, in order to maintain and develop relationships with quality vocational training programs, employers, and colleagues in the field doing similar work.
Coordinate Career Prep program activities:
  • Manage and coordinate day-to-day Career Prep activities serving 70-100 current students, and 1000+ alumnae
  • Meet and work 1-on-1 with individual students, both current and alumni, on career-related activities, including resume review and interview prep
  • Capture, manage, and review data utilizing Sales Force CRM platform and interactive database
  • Maintain accurate metrics for program performance and prepare analysis for internal and external use
  • Develop technology-centered training for High School Equivalency students
Teach weekly Career Prep class to current High School Equivalency students
  • Use existing curriculum to continue to teach Career Prep class that actively engages students in learning about the workforce and vocational programs
  • Develop new and innovative technology-centered teaching approaches to preparation of workforce materials in the classroom
  • Advise students on completion of workforce goals by providing detailed feedback on application materials created
Maintain and Develop Relationships with vocational training partners and employers:
  • Connect students to employment and vocational training opportunities in the Bronx and NYC
  • Strengthen and build relations with quality vocational training programs and community-based organizations
  • Attend meetings with partner organizations and coalitions in the workforce development field around NYC
Coordinate and Carry Out Career Development Events:
  • Put together larger program events such as Job Fairs and Mock Interview sessions
  • Put together and lead field trips for students to employment-related programs and events
Participate as member of larger Grace Outreach staff team:
  • Work collaboratively with 12+ colleagues in helping to carry out overall Grace Outreach mission
  • Complete a high volume of varied responsibilities and thrive in a fast-paced setting
Minimum Qualifications: B.A. degree, with experience in workforce development/non-profit/education field.
Ability to skillfully utilize Microsoft Office Suite software, SalesForce or similar CRM/database software. Ability to contribute to organization's well-established positive culture, and ethical values and practices.
