This team member will primarily be responsible for assisting in the delivery of the TESLA (Teaching ESOL to Adults) certificate program, implementing ESOL and/or ABE/HSE professional development activities on topics relevant to the current needs of adult educators, coaching ESOL and/or ABE/HSE teachers in the field, and collaborating with other LAC professional development team members on assigned projects.
Reports to: The ESOL Specialist
Responsibilities:
- Work with the ESOL Specialist to implement the Literacy Assistance Center’s TESLA certificate program. Assist with lesson plan review, scheduling, practicum mentoring, and conducting TESLA class sessions
- Support TESLA students in their use of the online learning platform, Moodle
- Conduct ESOL and/or ABE/HSE workshops for New York City adult educators
- Provide onsite coaching to ESOL and/or ABE teachers in New York City
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in education or a related field
- TESOL /TESLA certificate or MA TESOL
- Minimum of five years of experience working in an adult education program in a teaching capacity, including at least four years teaching ESOL
- Experience teaching beginner, intermediate and advanced ESOL learners
- Experience delivering professional development workshops to adult educators
- Solid understanding of contemporary ESOL teaching methodology
- Skilled user of Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Familiarity with Google Docs and Google Sheets
- Experienced BEST Plus Test Administrator
- Comfortable learning new technology skills
- Familiarity with Moodle or other online learning platform a strong plus
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to take initiative and be self-directed with strong problem-solving abilities
- Enthusiasm and ability to work as part of a team
- Enthusiasm about working onsite in adult education programs and willingness to travel throughout and outside of NYC
- Ability to effectively represent and promote the work of the organization
- Flexible and able to adapt to changing work environments and projects
