The CUNY Perfect Opportunity for Individual Skills and Educational Development (POISED) for Success Program, which provides services for low income mothers to develop academic, parenting and vocational skills, is seeking an innovative Basic Skills Instructor (Pre-HSE) who will facilitate and implement the curricula of academic component of the program (Reading, Writing, Math, Science) preparation for adult learners.
The incumbent will prepare lesson plans for daily instruction; review the curriculum to make supplementations for delivery in a systematic matter and conduct pre and post assessment tests. He/she is expected to create an educational environment conducive to optimal learning while keeping abreast of and utilizing CUNY Common Core standards related to Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC); develop resources and references for participant’s use as a workplace literacy venture. In addition, The Basic Skills Instructor is expected to encourage and model appropriate behavior and attitude for the POISED students.
Position requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field; at least ( 2) years’ experience teaching and a solid ability to engage students and prove effectiveness of teaching methods; adept at delivering effective written and oral instructions and computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point as well as the internet.
