Summary of Position
The Adult Literacy Instructor is responsible for lesson planning, performing student assessments, and managing student portfolios in a mixed-level classroom. The Instructor facilitates progressive student-centered curricula surrounding parenting, identity, personal history, and culture. This position is 21 hours a week. Though part-time, applicants receive health benefits in addition to sick and vacation hours. Some evening and Saturday hours are required.
Summary of the Agency: The Coalition for Hispanic Family Services is a multi-service agency serving children and families of North Brooklyn and Queens. These include foster care, adoption, youth development, primary health care, mental health, HIV/AIDS case management, community health education and outreach, in-service internships and after school education.
Duties:
- Design thematic-based ESL lessons
- Travel to more than one community center for instruction
- Record keeping and documentation of attendance, including monthly evaluations and student success stories.
- Plans and leads activities and trips for ESL classes
