Program Overview: Our HSE Prep classes are a part of Henry Street Settlement’s Education and Employment Services, a $10M division providing a continuum of services from early childhood education through adult workforce programs designed to assist individuals in obtaining the skills necessary for lifetime self-sufficiency. HSE Prep classes will offer opportunities for young adult learners to work towards earning their High School Equivalency and becoming gainfully employed. The HSE Instructor will lead classes at two sites (Lower East Side and the Bronx), instruct students in all subjects (reading, math, science, social studies, writing) included on the TASC, develop curriculum and materials, design lessons, maintain a successful learning environment, collaborate with program staff and maintain program data/complete data entry as required by program and funding sources.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Education (MEd) preferred
- One (1) year teaching experience required
- Ability to engage a diverse population including disconnected youth and adult learners
- Knowledge of Pre-HSE and HSE curriculum and TASC testing requirements and comfortable teaching all 5 subject areas (reading, math, science, social studies, writing)
- Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and web-hosted databases
- Commitment to incorporating innovative teaching methods
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (including a great sense of humor)
- Ability to assess differences in learning styles and capitalize on student strengths
- Understanding of workforce development landscape and how to incorporate into curriculum a plus
- Maintain classrooms conducive to learning and facilitate successful participant engagement, quality interaction and learning
- Establish clear expectations and encouraging student accountability
- Implement quality instructional practices, and vary methods of instruction, to encourage participation and retention
- Be able to teach large classes and conduct small group tutoring sessions
- Conduct regular assessment/post-tests to determine advancement
- Maintain timely and complete documentation, including individual case notes as prescribed by Program Director
- Participate in required program and agency meetings including supervision
- Other tasks as assigned by supervisor
