The BMCC/CUNY Adult Education Program is seeking a dynamic, hardworking educator to teach a diverse population of adult, non-traditional high school equivalency students. Candidate must be able to work off-site on the Lower East Side, and serve students who predominantly reside in NYCHA Housing complexes. Candidate must be able to liaise between BMCC and our partner agencies on the LES. Candidate must be able to work independently and have excellent interpersonal skills. The position is for 3 mornings a week if the candidate can teach all 4 areas of the GED, i.e. math and the RLA, Social Studies, and Science sections. We will consider candidates who teach only math or reading/writing subjects.
Requirements:
- Available to teach 3 mornings from 9:30 am - 1:30 pm
- Track attendance and other outcomes and data, as required
- Be available for intakes and pre- and post-testing
- Attend RAEN professional development mandated by NYSED
- Attend meetings as required by BMCC administration
- BA/BS plus relevant adult education experience preferred
ESOL Instructor
The Borough of Manhattan Community College Center for Continuing Education and Workforce Development (BMCC) is seeking a creative and capable part-time ESOL instructor for the grant-funded Integrated English Language and Civics Education (IELCE) program for immediate hire. IELCE is an innovative program that combines English language instruction with training to earn the Child Development Associate Certificate (CDA). Students are concurrently enrolled in CDA training and ESOL classes that directly support the language demands of the Early Childhood Education Field. The IELCE Instructor should have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of effective contextualized instruction in the ESOL classroom and a strong interest in the field of Early Childhood Education or related experience. In addition to instruction, the IELCE Instructor will assist the IELCE staff as they guide students through the educational sequence of the program—from initial recruitment and assessment to placement and ongoing support in the IELCE program where students acquire the highly marketable CDA Certificate.
Salary: $40 an hour. This is a P/T RFCUNY position.
