Job Developer F/T

JOB TITLE:  Job Developer – Youth Programs
REPORTS TO:  Career Development Center/Youth Training Network
 
The Job Developer is primarily responsible for developing and building capacity/partnerships with potential employers for the graduates of our skills training programs.  In addition, they must understand the local labor market trends and issues; understand basic business practices and carry out assignments and projects without detailed instruction.  He /she will work with the Skills Training providers to insure that the training remains viable for participants and potential employers.  He/she will support project staff efforts in recruitment, orientation, job readiness, education, and skills training.  The Career/Job Development Specialist will monitor progress of participants through skills training, placement and retention, He/she will work with project staff to identify and address problems/barriers to successful outcomes for our participants. The Job Developer is an invested and transformational individual who can inspire, motivate and guide young people towards positive employment outcomes as well as develop internships and permanent placement opportunities for our youth. 
DUTIES INCLUDE:
  • Develop relationships with diverse businesses in order to develop internship and job opportunities for participants that utilize certifications received in skills training programs. 
  • Be willing and able to meet our contractual placement requirement of 40 job placements and 20 internship placements for our youth participants.
  • Support Outreach/Recruitment efforts
  • Conduct one-on one interviews, assessing participants education and work history, need for support services, career preferences and barriers to employment
  • Work collaboratively with students to develop a Career Plan
  • Conduct & Support our basic skills / work readiness instructor during job readiness workshops
  • Support  team in conducting training program orientations
  • Participate in case conferences with the Skills Training subcontractors to review applications and select appropriate candidates for interviews
  • Administer random drug tests to students and record results
  • Provide career coaching to students while enrolled in all phases of the program: training, job search, and post placement.  Coaching should focus on strategies to help students improve their income and advance in their careers
  • Visit external volunteer/internship sites and other training sites at least twice a month
  • Work closely with work sites to ensure student progress
  • Case notes need to be updated regularly (minimum two per month) with any status change including:  not complying with program rules and regulation, obtained employment, refused employment, missed interview for potential employment, did not return to the program after numerous attempts of contact
  • Monitor, document and follow up on students attendance throughout the program
  • Daily input of data entry in both internal and external databases: Capricorn and Efforts To Outcomes
  • Secure documentation verifying employment, I.e. paystubs as required
  • Maintain good organizational and time management skills in order to ensure completion of all tasks
  • Timely record keeping and quality assurance for compliance with the requirements of various funding sources
  • Perform other tasks in support of St. Nicks alliance as directed
  • Dedicate outreach for both Out-of-School Youth and In-School Youth participants (16-24 years old)
  • Be available to work some evenings and occasional weekends
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years experience in social service organization or employment related program with 2 years involved in with working with youth
  • Excellent organizational interpersonal skills
  • Strong communication, writing and computer skills
  • Problem Solving skills
  • Current knowledge of labor trends
  • Ability to motivate others towards achieving goals
  • Experience working with individuals with criminal histories
  • Ability to work independently with strong sense of focus, task-oriented, non-judgmental, and clear sense of boundaries
  • Strong sense of and respect for confidentiality involving both clients and fellow employees
  • Ability to work with culturally-diverse individuals
  • Bi-lingual Spanish a plus
  • This position is competitive in salary and includes benefits after a probationary period.
