Location:  Brooklyn College 2900 Bedford Ave
Hours: Part-time, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 9-12 PM & 6-9 PM
Salary Range: $44/hr
This position would be taking over a class midway through the term.

Brooklyn College Adult Literacy Program provides cost- free ESOL, High School Equivalency (HSE/GED) preparation, and pre-HSE/GED services. Students enter the program with various goals, from learning English to earning the credentials necessary for access to gainful employment or higher education. Our Instructional model is focused on collaborative learning with the goal of creating shared knowledge to achieve learning goals.
Responsibilities:
  • Instruction of  GED preparation classes
  • Pre-testing and post-testing using TABE
  • Attend monthly staff meetings
  • Track student attendance in accordance with guidelines
  • Optimizes learning outcomes (observes classes, collects student feedback, monitors test scores, and takes steps to improve learning outcomes)
  • Attend 14 hours of professional development
  • Other duties, as assigned

Job Description:

SUMMARY:
Reporting to the NRS Director (Upstate) and NRS Director (Downstate), the NRS Technology Specialist oversees, maintains, monitors and provides access and technical support for the secure Accountability and Program Manager websites, ensuring user access to the most recent program data.  In addition, the NRS Technology Specialist assists the NRS Directors with data mining and report preparation for NRS reporting both at the program level and state level.

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Monitor, maintain and oversee access and content updates of NRS/WIOA Accountability website and Program Manager website, issuing names and passwords to approved users
  2. Serve as main point of contact for NRS Portal, ensuring submission accuracy and timeliness
  3. Publish the New York State Report Card and other reports as determined by the Directors.
  4. Generate reports designed to monitor all state-funded adult education programs, develop Data Summaries and submit to the Director for analysis
  5. Generate, monitor and upload monthly ITAP and Corrective Action Program data
  6. Participate as needed in technical assistance sessions supporting all programs identified by NYSED/AEPP as part of the Individual Technical Assistance Plan
  7. Disaggregate data in preparation for review by Directors
  8. Generate quarterly Employment Preparation Education (EPE) reports
  9. Maintain all records and communication for NYS Literacy Zones
  10. Support training needs as it relates to website usage and access and other professional development offerings delivered by NRS Directors
  11.  Track professional development time for program staff
  12. Maintain NRS NYSED/AEPP Manual on the Accountability website, ensuring its capacity as an online, interactive and searchable document
  13. Assist Directors with data reporting for Literacy Zones and High School Completion programs
  14. Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:
Minimum Requirements: The position requires proficiency in web technologies and website content management systems and tools.  Familiarity with HTML, CSS and JavaScript are essential.  Experience with implementation and maintenance of website security measures a plus.  Advanced mastery level skill in Microsoft Excel, ACCESS, and Word is required. Successful candidates should have experience with website troubleshooting, data analytics, attention to detail, strong organizational and communication skills.

The NRS Director of Accountability is responsible for Adult Education data reporting for designated regions, program monitoring. The director will also design and deliver NRS/NYRS related professional development and provide support and policy recommendations to NYSED/AEPP.

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Monitor state funded adult education programs in assigned regions of NYS
  2. Monitor and provide data analysis and intense technical support and assistance to designated programs identified by NYSED/AEPP as part of the Individual Technical Assistance Plan or Corrective Action Plans
  3. Review for accuracy, support in the distribution of the NYSED/AEPP Adult Education Report Cards and train programs on benchmarks. Recommend policy changes to NYSED administration regarding report card measures and calculations
  4. Annually responsible for supporting the submission of the National Reporting System reports to the USDOE and NYRS reports to NYSED/AEPP
  5.  Edit the NRS/NYRS Performance Accountability Manual in compliance with USDOE/State guidelines
  6. Revise, develop and deliver workshops/webinars on NRS/NYRS performance improvement topics as listed in the Workplan
  7. Analyze state and program data to advise NYRS/NRS policy revision relative to assessments and curriculum
  8. Monitor the Employment Preparation Education (EPE) data and recommend payment to programs
  9. Attend annual USDOE and state related trainings within the designated regions or out of state, and disseminate information to assigned regions
  10. Conduct virtual conference meetings with local program staff, RAENs/STACs/ASISTS and NYSED/AEPP
  11. Monitor all benchmarks and performance outcome data for NYS Literacy Zones in assigned regions
  12. Monitor all outcome and performance data trends for designated regions and provide support to adult education programs, RAENs, STACs, and NYSED/AEPP

Requirements:
Minimum Requirements: Master's degree required with seven years of experience in progressively responsible leadership roles in adult education or related field. The position requires significant travel. Familiarity with state system adult education programs and compliance regulations a plus. Strong communication and analytical skills.

Program. The goal of the Advance & Earn Program is to provide a career pathway for opportunity youth
through a continuum of services including literacy and math facilitation, HSE test preparation, work
readiness training, college and career exploration, paid work experience, advanced occupational training,
and industry credential attainment. The programs support opportunity youth at any educational level,
providing on-ramps at various levels through three program components, each supported by case
management and wrap-around services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The HSE Coordinator will:
  • Develop lesson plans according to the various learning styles of program participants.
  • Facilitate groups with the goal of improving literacy skills.
  • Identify ways to connect classroom learning with real-world applications, ensuring that participants
  • understand how to apply skills in workplace environments.
  • Coordinate with program staff to ensure that participants’ progress is being appropriately tracked

Operational Leadership and Administration

  • Establishes performance benchmarks to define the scope, strength and success of programs and services, and identify where modifications are needed.

ASISTS Program Associate and Trainer F/T

ASISTS Program Associate and Trainer, Literacy Assistance Center

Position Overview
The LAC is looking for a new member of our ASISTS team to train and support our user base of over 1,000 professionals at adult literacy programs across the state, including program managers, case managers, teachers and data entry staff. In addition to training skills, we are also looking for a person who is willing to learn or already has skills in relational databases such as Microsoft Access or SQL. The LAC is willing to support the learning of a staff member in the appropriate technical skills.

The Program Associate/Trainer will be responsible for working with the ASISTS Director to train program staff on how to use ASISTS and all its features to manage their programs and report to the New York State Education Department (NYSED) accurately and effectively. In addition, this person will also have responsibilities for providing one-on-one support to ASISTS users via email, Zoom sessions or in person meetings. Some of this support will also involve troubleshooting ASISTS reports, running data queries and creating data reports. Entry level SQL skills will be useful for this work.

Reports To
This position reports to the Director of ASISTS and will work closely with senior developers and analysts.

Background
Since 1983, the Literacy Assistance Center (LAC) has been working to build the capacity and improve the quality of the Adult Basic Education (ABE), English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), and High School Equivalency (HSE) programs that serve New York’s most educationally disadvantaged and economically marginalized communities. One of its biggest projects is ASISTS (Adult Student Information System and Technical Support), the data system used by all programs funded by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) to manage and report student data following state and federal guidelines. The ASISTS team maintains the ASISTS software, trains program staff and provides technical support to program users at all levels.

Responsibilities
  • Training and Technical Support
  • Respond to user requests for data assistance, recreate and confirm user issues.
  • Present Basic Data Entry and Reports training for new users across NY State.
  • Work with senior training staff to create online resources.
  • Help document application processes and reporting procedures.
  • Participate in team discussions on improving database performance and efficiency.

Data-related Responsibilities
  • Write and modify basic SQL queries to support reporting and data requests.
  • Learn and apply best practices for database security and integrity.
  • Work with the ASISTS team to do software testing and ensure quality control.

1199SEIU TEF seeks a dynamic Digital Literacy/Computer Instructor to teach an in-person Excel/Outlook training class beginning in January 2026.

Classes will be taught on-site at Maimonides Hospital located at 4802 10th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11219
Students will be a mix of frontline health workers and hospital administrative staff.
Classes will meet Mondays & Wednesdays from 9:30am to 11:30am (flexible)
Duration 10 weeks
Competitive hourly rate $67/hour
Applicants must:
  • Effectively teach students at varied skill levels.
  • Assess aptitude of students and pace the course accordingly
  • Plan learner-centered, participatory lessons and utilize a project-based approach 
  • Evaluate student progress using class quizzes and North Star assessment
  • Integrate other technology/online platforms into instructional strategies 
  • Adapt teaching style and strategies to maximize student learning and retention 
Part-time position for applicant with proven experience in education or teaching, with a focus on computer skills

Must possess Microsoft Office Suite Certification
Must be able to multi-task and have strong communications skills.

Adult English Language & Literacy Intake Advisor F/T

Adult English Language and Literacy (AELL) is the direct service provider of ESOL and adult literacy instruction for The New York Public Library (NYPL). Professional teachers facilitate free instruction to adult patrons in reading, writing, speaking, and listening from a 0 to 8th-grade level in both in-person and online classes. Through formal classes in language and literacy, as well as elective offerings such as English conversation and citizenship preparation groups, AELL has taken on the charge to expand ESOL instruction at NYPL.

Instruction is offered in three, 10-week cycles and one, 4-week summer cycle. The Intake Advisors recruit new students, determine eligibility through testing and interviews, monitor attendance, and student retention. Intake Advisors follow up with students to identify barriers to participation and encourage continuation in the program.

We are looking for someone we can count on to:
Own:
  • Case management and regular communication with students
  • Outreach and relationship building with internal and external partners for program referrals
Teach:
  • Students the various NYPL and city services that can help them achieve their long term goals and remove barriers to program participation
  • Job readiness skills to students
  • Basic digital literacy and online learning platforms to new students
Learn:
  • NYPL strategic priorities and initiatives
  • How to maintain compliance with the government funders in order to stay abreast of National Reporting System standards
Improve:
  • Student retention and persistence in program participation resulting in higher measurable skill gain
  • Student registration and intake processes ensuring a positive patron experience

​Some expectations for this role are that within:
1 month, this person will:
  • Recruit, assess, and place students
  • Regularly communicate with absent students to identify and eliminate barriers to program participation
3 months, this person will:
  • Receive or maintain certification in Best Plus and TABE administration
  • Enter data into program and Library databases (ASISTS and Google Drive)
6 months and beyond, this person will:
  • Coordinate localized information sessions
  • Coordinate with both external and internal partners to provide workshops to a diverse population
  • Analyze data and run reports that will influence future programming choices

Responsibilities
  • Provide case management services to students including running information sessions, organizing the intake appointment process including assessment (Best Plus and TABE), NRS goal setting, and placement in a class, or referral to an outside agency
  • Monitor student progress, daily follow up with students who have an attendance problem to encourage continuation in the program
  • Input data for students into the agency database in a timely manner, which includes client personal contact information, assessment results, attendance, and educational and employment outcomes
  • Test all students at the end of each cycle
  • Maintain paper record files for each student as per NYSED requirements
  • Conduct outreach among various city and non-profit agencies to increase student enrollment, build relationships with community partners, and increase our referral list for supplemental services
  • Connect adult students with needed and available community resources. Follow-up with clients and agencies as appropriate to document use/success of referral
  • Provide workshops on using technology, orientations to library services, etc.
Required Education & Certifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, English, literacy, or a related field
  • Certification in Best Plus and TABE (attainment of certification required within the first 3 months of employment)
Required Experience
  • At least 1 year of administrative and/or instructional experience working with non-native English speaking adult learners
Required Skills
  • Proficiency with data entry and utilization of various databases
  • Knowledge of community resources and counseling/social services for high needs populations (literacy and language needs)
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Drive
  • Proficiency in navigating and leading meetings on Zoom
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills,
  • Ability to work with culturally-diverse communities
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Managerial/Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise 1 hourly Student Mentor

Schedule
35 hours per week. There will be a minimum of 2 late nights per week and Saturdays as required.
Will work at our Tompkins Square Library and Seward Park Library locations
