Teachers will instruct adults in high school level classes to prepare them to take the TASC (high school equivalency) official exam. Depending on your availability, teachers must commit to 2-5 hours of teaching per week with some preparation. You may choose to teach Language Arts, Social Studies, Math and/or Science classes one or two days a week. Morning classes run from 10:30am - 1:30pm and evening classes from 6:00pm - 8:30pm. The spring semester begins on February 5th and ends on Ma 10th.
The High School Equivalency Program is part of the comprehensive adult education and workforce development network at Community Impact, Columbia University which helps adults move toward college and employment opportunities with livable wages.
Strong English skills are required, as well as an interest in teaching, energy, motivation, and a commitment to getting involved and making a positive difference in the community. Teachers are required to attend at least 3 training sessions during the term.
