ABE Instructor P/T

RBSCC, INC. is seeking a part- time ABE Instructors. Days and times available include: M/W or T/TH: 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM. Salary: $ 35.00 per hour.

  • Effectively teach reading comprehension, standard English grammar, essay writing, math (arithmetic, geometry, & algebra), and test-taking skills to students. 
  • Must be comfortable with learner-centered, participatory lessons and a project-based approach. 
  • Teachers are responsible for creating her/his own curriculum and lesson plans. 
  • Create engaging instructional strategies and lesson plans, integrating technology.
  • Provide instruction in math and/or literacy, including group instruction and one-on-one tutoring.
  • Evaluate student progress using standardized assessment tools and in class quizzes.
  • Integrate technology into instructional strategies.
  • Adapt teaching style and strategies to maximize student learning and retention
  • Meet with Program Coordinator to discuss participants’ progress.
  • Qualifications: Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field, licensed to teach preferred. Two years teaching experience preferred.

YOUNG ADULT INTERNSHIP CASE MANAGER
MOSHOLU MONTEFIORE CC – Bronx, NY

Responsibilities include working with disconnected youth ages 17-24 to complete a 14 week internship program that will ultimately increase the participants job and college retention; collecting job/college verification paperwork from participants; entering client information into multiple data systems; preparing client folders and performing weekly payroll functions; providing intake and assessment to ensure candidates are suitable for MMCC YAIP programming; and establish professional relationship with worksite supervisors to ensure compliance. Bachelor’s Degree preferred and two years relevant experience a must. Very organized and attention to detail a must! Prior experience working with young adults preferred.

HSE Instructor (Teacher) MOSHOLU MONTEFIORE CC – Bronx, NY MMCC has an opening for one (1) Part Time Instructor in the Baseline Program and (1) Part Time Instructor in the NDA Program in the New Options Programs Division. This position is paid on an hourly basis. We are seeking 2 competent adult education teachers that can teach secondary and pre-secondary literacy for young adults working toward their High School Equivalency Diploma who are familar with Common Core and TASC Examinations.

Principal Duties:
  • Design relevant units in core subject areas of instruction to improve students’ literacy skills
  • Ensure that instructional activities are clearly related to academic goals and learning objectives for skill development, and are documented in lesson plans, which are to be submitted weekly
  • Provide targeted whole group, small group, and/or individual instruction to students in order to help them develop skills needed to successfully pass the TASC exam.
  • Provide regular and prompt feedback to students regarding their academic progress, and manage the development of students’ academic portfolios as a reflection of their progress
  • Establish and maintain an organized and supportive classroom environment where students actively participate and show respect for teacher and one another
  • Confer with supervisor regarding any student/classroom issues
  • Adapt educational processes and procedures to enhance students’ educational outcomes
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:
  • Demonstrated ability to work with struggling learners, and motivate/encourage them to persist towards their goals.
  • Candidates must possess strong content knowledge
  • BS Degree in Education or related subject area preferred.

Schedule:

Vacancy # 2 Monday - Wednesday, 9:00 am - 11:00 am.

Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow is seeking a part-time ESOL/Civics instructor for adult learners at our Bushwick Workforce Resource Center. The schedule is Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 5:30-8:30 p.m. to start in September 2015.


The ESOL/Civics instructor should be committed to social justice and have experience working with immigrant populations. The instructor will teach a student-driven ESOL/Civics curriculum that integrates technology, authentic assessment, and prepares students for their naturalization interview. Candidates must be creative, organized, and discreet when handling sensitive personal information.

Requirements: BA and experience teaching ESOL/Civics to adults and excellent computer skills. BEST Plus certification preferred. Knowledge of another language a plus.

ESOL Tutor P/T

The Bronx Community CLIP program provides intensive English language instruction to adult immigrants who plan to matriculate in a CUNY college. 

We are looking for an evening tutor who will work under the direction of classroom teachers to provide students with one-on-one assistance with their essays. The tutor may also help students with oral presentations and with reading skills. 

  • Three evenings per week, from 5-9 pm. The classes meet Monday through Friday; the exact days for tutoring are flexible. 
  • Pay is $21 per hour. 
  • BA required; some graduate work in TESOL or a related field preferred. Experience working with college-bound English language learners also preferred.

Case Manager – RBSCC Williamsburg HomeBase Program  Salary:  Mid $30K

The Prevention Case Manager will be responsible for preventing homelessness by providing housing assistance and holistic case management services.  He/she will provide ongoing social services to program participants to secure long-term housing stability and prevent shelter entry. 

Responsibilities: 
  • Completes a full case assessment and determines clients’ eligibility for the HomeBase program
  • Develops and implements an individualized service and housing plan that establishes goals and actions which address the immediate housing crisis and the underlying causes of the crises
  • Prepares all necessary documentation to prepare in-house subsidy applications on behalf of the client
  • Provides referrals for clients to access public benefits and entitlements
  • Maintains accurate record keeping via case files and the designated computer database
Qualifications
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience working in non-profit organizations

Resource Specialist F/T

Resource Specialist- RBSCC Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Full-time
Salary:  Mid – 30k

The goals of the SSVF program are to (1) assist homeless veteran families to leave shelters and secure affordable housing and (2) prevent at-risk veteran families from becoming homeless.  The SSVF Resource Specialist will be responsible for developing and maintaining linkages with organizations, companies and individuals 

Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Perform outreach in various settings including NYC shelters, treatment programs etc.
  • Develop linkages with real estate companies, employers and management offices that lead to a housing placement   
  • Work with Case Management staff to determine the employment and housing need of each client
  • Create, update, and maintain a resource tracker (on community contacts/referrals)
  • Take on a caseload of SSVF clients as required 

Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree required 
  • Experience with the homeless population and nonprofit organizations
