The primary responsibilities of the position will be:
  • Counsel and advise students and community residents on their career, academic, and social service needs

Case Manager - Career Counselor, Adult Literacy
JEWISH COMMUNITY COUNCIL OF GREATER CONEY ISLAND, Inc
The Case Manager - Career Counselor will be responsible for addressing the students’ barriers affecting their ability to benefit from ESOL classes, working through employment barriers, assisting students with achieving and retaining employment.
This position entails working closely with Students, Instructors, Lead Teacher, Program Coordinators/Data Managers, and Program Director to ensure the success of the program
 
This position includes (but is not limited to) the following responsibilities:
  • Assist in outreach to identify appropriate program sites and program participants who are eligible, motivated and employment bound.
  • Assist with intake, including completing the necessary paperwork with each student.
  • Interview students at time of initial assessment to determine any barriers that students face from fully benefitting from the program, and assist them in overcoming those barriers by facilitating internal and external referrals.  (Barriers may include, child care, housing, transportation, mental illness etc.)
  • For the duration of the ESL training, schedule meetings with each student on a bi-monthly basis
  • Monitor students’ development throughout their training and the pre and post-employment period, utilizing the necessary documents required by the funding source / Program Director.
  • Offer career counseling to help students make appropriate career choices. Share the latest job market information and help them identify the types of jobs that are suitable based on their work experience, skills, and English levels. For those employed, encourage job retention and advancement.
  • Assist students with resume preparation.
  • Actively research and create awareness for benefits and resources available to the NY immigrant population (ex: healthcare, vocational training, HSE opportunities, etc.).
  • Conduct individual and group employment-related workshops such as resume preparation, interviewing skills, confidence building, cultural differences in the American workplace, employer-employee relationships, and job retention skills, etc. Conduct orientation and student enrollment in job portals per funder requirements.
  • Establish and maintain employer relationships, develop job bank, and place students in jobs based on program requirements.
  • Maintain accurate case management/employment records, including following students’ employment as per program requirements.
  • Participate in meetings and workshops held at the funding sources when deemed necessary or when helpful to the program, and participate in the required staff development workshops.
 
Qualifications: Bachelors Degree; culturally sensitive professional individual with good word processing skills; excellent written, communicative and interpersonal skills; accurate data-entry and typing skills; prior career counseling and workforce development experience preferred;  Bi-lingual English-Spanish or Mandarin strongly preferred; good references.
Supervision: The Case Manager – Career Counselor will be supervised by the Program Director of Adult Literacy.
Work Schedule: 35 hours per week. Must be available to work day time and evening hours.
Work Environment: Work will be performed mainly at JCCGCI offices, and includes travel to ESL sites throughout the five boroughs (driving capability preferred). 
Language Skills: Ability to read and speak English; Mathematical Skills. Bi-lingual English-Spanish or Mandarin preferred.
Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, and data entry; basic knowledge of computer networking processes
Physical Demands:  Ability to lift 15 pounds
Reasoning Ability: Ability to make determinations of best procedures and practices to attain goals of the position.
Working Conditions:  Occasionally called upon to work over schedule or odd schedules (e.g. when outreach is best accomplished after-hours or on weekends).

Social Worker/Case Manager 

ParentJobNet seeks to strengthen the scope and effectiveness of its holistic workforce development programs in NYC school districts 3, 4 & 5 community areas with the addition of a seasoned Social Worker.   • Develop and implement course of action by exploring options; setting goals with client

Qualifications:
  • Master's (MSW) degree in social work and at least three years post-master’s experience
  • Must have SIFI (Seminar in Field Instruction) or equivalent training
  • Experience working directly with families of diverse demographics and cultures, a plus   
  • Diverse knowledge of community resources
  • Strong case management and organizational skills
  • Good judgment and problem solving ability
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

  • Administer one on one-assessment interviews for each new participant on case load, assessing participants education and work history, need for support services, career preferences and barriers to employment.   
  • Ensure that participant’s folders are complete including copies of identification documents and case notes.
  • Support, monitor, and follow up on participant’s attendance in education classes and other related activities.
  • Ensure ETO, Capricorn, and other in-house database systems are updated.
  • Perform other tasks (i.e. graduation ceremonies, company-wide special events, etc)  in support of St. Nicks Alliance as directed.

General Description 
The CUNY Fatherhood Academy (CFA) is a comprehensive program designed to promote responsible parenting and foster economic stability for unemployed and underemployed young fathers through education, employment, and personal development. Increased familial engagement, attaining a High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma and finding gainful employment are all essential goals of the CFA. The program’s central focus is to help young fathers prepare for and enroll into college or training programs, with the understanding that earning a college degree is the most effective path toward providing long-term economic sustainability for themselves and their families. The program is targeted to serve Black and Latino fathers, ages 18–24, from throughout New York City. Under the NYC Mayor’s Young Men’s Initiative, the CUNY Fatherhood Academy is expanding to a new site at Kingsborough Community College.

​Under the supervision of the Director of CFA, the Case Manager will provide participants with supportive services through individual and group counseling interventions.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Facilitates workshops geared to educate, inspire and guide participants towards an awareness of their worth as young men and fathers within their families and communities while helping to address barriers to self- sufficiency and effective parenting ;
  • Develops, administers, and coordinates Individual Development Plans for program participants including academic assessment, preparation for employment, parenting instruction, marriage/relationship skills development, supportive services, and follow-up;
  • Develops, researches, and obtains a variety of resources, to promote participant development. Assures participant attendance and progress toward academic and vocational goals occurs;
  • Provides academic and college success advice; general guidance, coaching, mentoring and career exploration support ;
  • Meets and counsels participants on a set schedule to evaluate progress and maintain concise, accurate case notes. Makes home visits as necessary;
  • Advocate for students, intervene with appropriate program support services and referrals to faculty, campus learning resources and/or additional external supports;
  • Provides data for participant activity tracking reports. Develops/monitors participant incentive programs to increase productivity and engagement in programs; 
  • Assists in organizing field trips, off-site family events, job fairs and graduation ceremonies; 
  • Work collaboratively with the Men’s Resource Center for the benefit of the CFA participants, particularly to insure that CFA participants are engaged with mentors.
  • Conduct outreach to support program retention, and track participants upon completion of the program for up to 8 months.

Other Duties 
  • Monitor, evaluate, document and report on students' academic participation and progress, ensure compliance with guidelines, and manage records and files;
  • Participate in regular team meetings with instructors, academic and administrative staff, and actively participate in campus and University meetings and training activities;
  • Participate in executing the program's daily operations and logistics; 
  • Analyze program data, assist with evaluating goals, and develop measurement criteria to perform student learning outcomes assessments and create utilization reports; and
  • Work collaboratively with the CUNY Fatherhood Academy Consortium of other participating community colleges and the CUNY Central Office

  • Two (2) years’ experience counseling fathers, young adults, or a related population
  • Strong organizational, time-management, administrative skills

  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment, and exhibit sociocultural competence and understanding
  • Demonstrate leadership, problem-solving, decision-making and creative thinking skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and record keeping
  • Available for occasional nights and weekends
  • The ideal candidate will also have experience working with the target population and experience working in a college or university setting.
