Bronx Community College is seeking two part time teachers. One is for evenings Tues, Weds and Thurs 6 to 9 pm to teach a level 3 / 4 ESL class and the other is on Saturdays from 9:30 to 2:30 to teach a level 5 / 6 class
Job description:
Responsibilities include: 
  • Customize instruction to create a high quality English curriculum/lesson plans for adults
  • Create a student-centered, engaging learning environment 
  • Assess student progress and provide feedback
  • Administer and monitor student testing, including : maintain attendance records and communicate with administrative staff and counselors regarding student absences and other issues
  • Integrate CUNY Career Kits
  • Complete 14 hours of professional development through Regional Adult Education Network (RAEN) offerings 
Qualifications: 
  • BA or BS in education or related field, MA  TESOL  preferred
  • Minimum two years related teaching experience, preferably in grant-funded literacy program
  • Experience creating thematic, content-based curricula Best Plus certified preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing and oral communication skills  
Hourly teaching rate starts at $36 per hour

Educational Case Manager/Academic Advisor P/T

Job Title: Part-time Educational Case Manager/Academic Advisor
York College Learning Center has an employment opening for a Part-Time/Temporary Educational Case Manager/Advisor.
The primary responsibilities of the position will be:
  • Counsel and advise students and community residents on their career, academic, and social service needs
  • Assess student needs, coordinate appropriate referrals/events, and incorporate guest speakers for informative workshops
  • Conduct college, career, and employment readiness workshops for students and community residents
  • Facilitate WIOA-related training/workshops to Learning Center students in collaboration with class instructor
  • Provide Job Zone sessions to assigned classes
  • Conduct follow-up to document outcomes and provide post-exit support to HSE recipients, CLIP referrals, and student completers
  • Assist in completion of college and financial aid applications
  • Maintain confidential progress notes about students (written and electronically) and utilize the Case Management Portal when available
  • Provide in-class orientations highlighting the Center’s policies and procedures
  • Assist with the registration process and completion of individual student record forms
  • Support students with attendance issues; aid students to identify factors that deter class persistence
  • Attend 14 hours of RAEN-approved Professional Development appropriate for case managers
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling or a related field preferred
  • Minimum five years relevant experience in counseling individuals and/or leading workshops
  • Strong awareness of the barriers facing immigrants looking to integrate into the US workforce and academic environments
  • Evening hours required
  • Familiarity with strengths-based, culturally competent approaches
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, demonstrate resourcefulness, and be well organized
  • Bilingual a plus (English/Spanish, English/Creole, English/Bengali)

This part-time, Research Foundation grant-funded position will be scheduled for 16 hours a week, M-TH, from 10am – 2pm, for a 10 month period (September 2019 – June 2020) at a salary of $33.00 an hour.  As a temporary position, there is no guarantee or offer of continued employment after June 30, 2020.

Reports to: Director of Adult Education & Workforce Development
Hours: Full Time, includes 2 late nights & monthly Saturdays while classes are in session

Position Purpose: Responsible for managerial duties necessary for the operation of the Adult Education & Workforce programs including direct services for the Department, administrative services, and to program participants

Essential Functions:
  • Responsible for oversight of all classes, including intakes and testing
  • Teach adult education classes (ESOL, Civics, Workforce), both as an assigned instructor and as a substitute, as needed
  • Identify, develop and implement curricula for all Adult Education & Workforce programming that align with standards and defines educational goals, objectives, and methodologies to meet program goals.
  • Assist with coordinating teacher schedules, timesheets and general operations for the smooth running of classes. Assist program manager with recruiting  paid and volunteer teachers
  • Co-lead in arranging and leading monthly staff development sessions, including sessions on various instruction methods and enriched learning in classroom settings
  • Provide administrative functions for the department, including daily database entry in multiple systems, preparation of records and reports; and maintenance of hard copy and electronic filing systems
  • Conduct participant intakes, recruitment, and testing
  • Respond to in-person and telephone inquiries about the department and classes from prospective and current program participants, staff, and the public
  • Resolve issues raised by program participants
  • Attend funder meetings and represent the department in absence of Director
  • Participate in program meetings and trainings
  • Participate in Mercy Center staff meetings and other organization-wide meetings and activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor the Director of Adult Education & Workforce Development

Qualifications
  • BA; MA degree in TESOL strongly preferred
  • Experience with education, training, workforce development, student services a plus
  • Minimum of 4 years experience teaching ESOL
  • Bilingual English/Spanish or  English/French or English/Arabic
  • Extensive experience in curriculum development
  • Extensive experience in student  intake, recruitment, testing and extensive teaching activities in previous positions
  • Experience with managing multiple contracts with various outcomes and requirements and meet multiple deadlines. 
  • Ability to work well with others in a busy professional environment
  • Demonstrated capacity to be reliable and highly productive
  • Must be a proactive problem-solver, adaptive to a growing, changing organization
  • Excellent sense of judgment, decision making, follow-through on tasks, interpersonal and communication skills. Well-organized, detail oriented, and demonstrate excellent verbal & written skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, with knowledge of Capricorn and ETO databases a plus
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask and use self-initiative
  • Experience working with the immigrant community preferred

ESOL Tutor P/T

The CUNY Language Immersion Program (CLIP) at Bronx Community College provides intensive English language instruction to adult immigrants who plan to matriculate in a CUNY college. We are looking for an evening tutor who will work under the direction of classroom teachers to assist students in all four language domains. Responsibilities may include:
  • helping students, one-on-one, to revise their essays for grammar, mechanics, and content
  • working with students individually and in groups on reading skills
  • honing oral presentation and pronunciation skills
  • assisting students with annotation during read-alouds and taking notes during lectures
  • assisting students with PowerPoint presentations
 
Tutors may also be asked to facilitate whole-class instruction and group work, as well as grade student assessments. Applicants must be flexible enough to work with faculty members with a variety of teaching styles.  Prior experience working with ESL students and some graduate coursework in TESOL/Applied Linguistics preferred.
 
Hours: 
Evening Position:     5:15 PM to 9:45 PM    Three evenings per week. The days are flexible.

ABE/HSE Math Teacher (P/T)

The Lehman College Adult Learning Center is seeking a dynamic part-time ABE/HSE Math Teacher to work with a diverse group of adult learners.  The class meets two evenings a week for three hours each day. The position begins in September 2019; starting salary is $32/hr. The Lehman ALC is currently hiring for evening classes.
 
Essential duties include:                                                                                  
  • Providing high-quality instruction to help students develop their conceptual understanding and math skills
  • Designing engaging lessons to help students foster an appreciation of math
  • Collaborating with staff and teachers to develop best teaching practices and enriching materials
  • Reviewing and communicating class progress with both staff and students
  • Actively partaking in in-house teacher meetings and citywide professional development
  • Maintaining class attendance and communicating with students about program participation issues
  • Participating in student orientations and program-wide events and activities
  • Conducting required assessments including TABE and TASC Readiness exams

Education Requirements:
